In case anyone asks, yes they do run Android with full Google services

    • +3

But does it have Huawei Mobile Services?

Like on their newest phones? P40/mate30

      /s

      • I am not sure about P30 Lite, but P30 and P30 Pro do have both GMS and HMS.

  • +1

Is this VOG-L29 or VOG-L09? It says both VOG-L29 / VOG-L09 in the description, thats confusing. VOG-L29 is dual sim / VOG-L09 is single sim

    • -1

The listing for P30 and lite says dual sim but nothing on the pro. I would assume that one is single sim

    • +2

Note: The Unbranded variants are Dual SIM 4G/4G, the Network Branded variants are Single SIM.

      • +3

Just another way for telcos to milk their customers

      • My Optus P30 Pro was dual sim.

        • What they had in stock were "Vodafone" (which is sold out already) and "Unbranded"

      • Just asked the shop and they said the Unbranded one is dual sim.

    • i would also assume that this is a single sim variant.

    • +2

      Hello,

      Thank you for contacting us,

Please kindly note, the Vodafone branded is Single SIM and the unbranded model is dual SIM

      Kind regards

which of the Hauwei phones DONT run google services?

      Anything released after the P30-series (i.e. Mate 30 onwards)…

30 seconds until CCP Huawei police spawn

  • Oh man. P30 vs the recent Harvey Norman mate 20 pro deal for $599.

Looks like the mate 20 pro wins here. Barely any performance improvement. Better battery life.

And the screen is way better on the mate 20 pro

    • +2

Dang I just bought the mate 20 pro from Harvey Norman. But apparently this P30 pro has a 10x lossless zoom. https://www.androidauthority.com/huawei-p30-pro-vs-huawei-ma…

    • Got the m20pro from hn, open box, case and sp missing, they gave $20 disc. I say it is very good, better than my note 9 without the pen.

      • I went and got one from in store, it was still sealed in plastic packaging.

        • Lucky you! Still waiting for sp and case. The phone seemed new. Nearly bought p20 pro by mistake.

      • whats sp?

        • Screen protector.

          • @Erwark: sounds like a return or refurbished

    • +2

P30 is a much better phone in-terms of camera. However the 3D face scan on the mate 20 is much better.

    • yea im in a pickle as well between the 2. i dont have ebay plus though. i can sign up for the 1 month trial. i assume the selfie camera is better on the P30 pro but the battery size is bigger on the Mate. but with fast charging, i dont think it matter either way.

      • Keep in mind, a comparable by price is the p30 not the p30 pro.

        • yea i would get the mate 20. the harvey norman chat offered $550 yesterday. was told sale ends 29 June. see close to the date if they reduce it further

          • @gbones: How did you get 550 offer from HN? Just ask via chat?

            • +2

@reservin: @reservin correct. each person is different though. i have taken a photo just incase.

              • @gbones: what did you ask? how many people did you have to go through

                • @chillipaste: just asked the first person what is the best price they can give me and the guy said $550. havent tried today though. hopefully still will give it.

                  • @gbones: lucky - i've gone through 4-5 people already - best I can get is $595.

                    • @chillipaste: they gave me a promotional code which is valid till midnight today if anyone wants it. i dont know how many people can use it though.

                      • @gbones: Can I? You can PM me.

                        • +1

@chillipaste: sent. i just tested it and its still valid

                          • @gbones: Made it! gbones MVP!

                            • @chillipaste: Can I get the code as well please!

                              • @dar2k: Sorry, it was a one time code. I tried it again and it came up as expired. Hope you can get the same deal!

                              • @dar2k: I was also able to get $50 off, but I specifically asked for that much off and mentioned a friend was offered the same!

  • +3

I got the P30 on this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/537449
Have to say, fantastic phone for the the money, even at this price. I was looking for an S10E and this seems to be a far better phone and is cheaper.

    • This deal is for the P30 Pro.

    • +2

I just recently upgraded to a P30. Very happy with performance - camera is fantastic & battery lasts 1.5 days. I'm enjoying the smaller phone & no curved edges.

    • +6

Nah yeah nah, Google services is enough, tracking everything you do on the phone. Enough for US to spy on ya.

    • Don't quit your day job.

  • +1

I got the P30 about 2 months ago for about $670 - but that is life.

On the whole I'm very happy with it. Headphone jack is great, it feels good, comes with a basic soft/rubber case, it looks great. Camera is good (P30 Pro is meant to be exceptional). On a normal workday I charge it in the morning and it gets from 20%-100% in about an hour and then that's all the charging it needs and it will be back at 20% after about a day.

Small niggles are that I find the in-screen fingerprint sensor not super good and the inbuilt speaker isn't great, but they are pretty small.

    • Yep agreed, inscreen fingerprint is worse than my Mi 9.

      • You think this is bad, try the Samsung galaxy s20+ fingerprint scanner. Wish I had never upgraded.

        • Yeah fingerprint scanner on the s20+ sucks. I've got face unlock on just so I don't have to use it (and riding the security risk)

          • @Birdseye: I have about as much joy with the face unlock as I do with the fingerprint scanner. So frustrating.

  • +2

They make the prettiest phones - shame :(

  • +1

I've wanted the p30 pro for an eternity but still too expensive IMO. Might have to buy my 3rd Mate20 pro for $599…

  • The two look very similar - same cpu/ram/battery with reversible wireless charging.
P30 has a slightly newer imager
    https://www.kimovil.com/en/compare/huawei-mate-20-pro,huawei…
    https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=9343&idPhone2…

for $599, the Mate 30 Pro seems the compelling option

  • +2

Missus is asking (demanding) when her phone are due for an upgrade. P30 Pro is always on my radar but how does it compare with the Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro posted on ozbargain last 1-2weeks? Is it a fair comparison or was the Poco F2 Pro more on the P30 level instead of the P30 Pro?

  • +1

I am looking for a midrange and midsize phone to replace my broken LG v30. Currently using my old LG G6 and prefer the smaller size.
    My research has led me to shortlist the P30 and s10e as my criteria of main points are;
    -flat screen not curved
    -prefer headphone jack
-has to be dual sim standby
    -<150cm tall
has anyone had experience with both and compare? Never had a Huawei. The old man has an s9 i think it is so have been able to check that out.

    • +3

I found the s10e screen to be too small after being used to the v30, the PWM of the screen gave me headaches, and the battery was too weak.
Feature wise the s10e is better than the p30, with wireless charging, IP68 as well as being lighter and more compact if you are into that.
Personally, I prefer the P30 but only out of respect for the Leica camera, as well as the DC dimming (but would miss the wireless charging and IP68).
      https://www.kimovil.com/en/compare/huawei-p30,samsung-galaxy…

      • Thanks mate. Leaning towards this p30 now price wise as well considering cheapest I can find the s10e dual sim is about $770 and thats OS stock

    • -8

Yeah, only Chinese Australians would buy this crap.. Like literally they love to support the "motherland", gross

    • -5

Don't upset the pro CCP ozbargainers. They hate anything against their political party.

  • Got the P30. What's a good cover recommended for this phone? Not a fan of wallet covers.

    • +1

If you don't mind the look of these "Carbon" look cases, I think they are are great option.

Have an earlier version on my Mate 9 for more than 2 years now, no stickiness or melting, no deformations, not slippery, and still looks good even though the colour has faded a little bit.

I've also dropped it plenty of times (whoops) with no issues phone or case wise.

Highly recommended the blue (but not the red, it's almost an orange pink).

      • I don't mind the look at all! Thanks, will order one the black one.

  • noticed sydneymobiles have for the same price - any reason to go one or the other? and likewise with colour any reason to go one over the other?

    • new?

      • +1
        • I thought you meant mate 20 pro dual sim version for same price as Harvey Norman single sim version.I'd get mate 20 pro for $599,was a 1200 phone,599 is the lowest it's ever been, bought my wife p30 and paid $680 ish but right after it's release over a year ago, plus mate 20 pro has slightly better spec than p30,waterproof,similar camera system,

  • Would the screen on the P30 pro be much better than the Oppo Reno 5G?

    • Oppo's screen is not bad at all.
Huawei has better camera and is able to leverage the 10x zoom when shooting video.
Oppo has a terrible and annoying system, and is very thick, but it's $300 cheaper!!

  • P30 Lite looks good, but wondering if its camera is as good as the P30. Any experiences?
Edit: Looks like P30 Pro camera is co-engineered with Leica, so definitely superior. But not sure if its worth the price difference.
