After Harvey Norman Auburn cancelled my Mega Drive Mini order after 30 days not picking it up, I still want a mini and found this Japanese version with decent price point.

It is twice more expensive than the last sale, but it is a Japanese version with two 6 button controller.

The description on the top says "1 Controller", but further down Product description says "W contains 2 control pads", and the pictures indicate two pads.

It is the console I played when growing up.

I remember playing sonic and Herzog Zwei on this when I was in high school… good ol' times..!

and guess what even back then I remember I won this at a Brisbane City mall McDonald's scratchie (I think it was called play Maccas monopoly with scratchie or something??) so got it for free! :):)

I used to have a Mega Drive as a kid too. I remember we got the bundle that came with Altered Beast 👍🏻

Since this is the Japanese version though, I'm wondering if the games will be in Japanese too?

The listing says 'Japanese language (other languages may be included)', which isn't really definitive

        • You can switch to English, with the same games. Some RPG may not work.
There is a Youtube comparison on switching between.

Th best version of the Mgeadrive Mini and worth it for the controllers alone

    The 1 controller version:

This is Amazon's regular price though.
Been in my cart for a few months waiting for a decent discount.

    • Are you keeping an eye on Famicom Mini too?
Really keen to get this too.

  • Here's what you do and any computer is good enough to do it. Download the emulator and roms then order a $4 SNES or megadrive controller and boom good to go.

    • As long as you enjoy gaming.
I got another setup that raspberry pi + 8bito FC controller.

  • I've still got my megadrive 2 with 2 x 6 button controllers and a number of games.

  • Too bad there’s no Sega CD to play sonic CD.

    • It's currently discounted to $1.49 on Steam if your wanting to own it legitimately.

      • Already got it.. the 5 year old loves it, games were much simpler then.
I should've gone with a comment about Sonic and Knuckles 32X…. now that's a rarity

You can hack this and put Sega CD games on it

They also sold kits to cosmetically upgrade your Mega Drive mini to have Sega CD and 32X

  • Can someone please quell my anxiety about buying this due to any possible COVID-19 from parcels :(

    • +1

Wut? Virus lives in people not parcels.

    • Its a wild world out there, dont leave your home.

    • +1
    • From what I've been told, AusPost are deliberately letting overseas parcels sit in warehouses for a week untouched for this reason

But it's probably not something to be concerned about anyway
