Audio Technica ATH-M50x Wired ($174.30 + Shipping), Wireless ($216 + Shipping) @ JB Hi-Fi

110

Not as good as the recent deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/542019), but still perhaps worthwhile for some people.

Stupid question but is this the same spec wise as ATH-M50X what was being sold in 2014?

Just surprises me that the price hasn't really come down after 5 years lol

Audio doesn't change much. Still incredible cans. Only BT cans need updating

Not sure I'd go as far as "incredible", but they're a big step up from most of the crap people use

        • Yea, well given many studios still use these as their reference cans, I would go as far as saying incredible value.

        • They're a great starter for people interested in getting into audiophile stuff, or anyone interested in cans that have a flat response.

@rcgy: These were my gateway headphones, the sound out of the M50X is not flat.

            • @dav3: Sorry, you're right. I'm misremembering. Ignore me!

Wired headphone technology hasn’t changed all that much in decades, prices aren’t affected by time on market like tech products that are quickly superseded with newer technology. Also, our dollar was much stronger in 2014. No reason these should be cheaper just because they’ve been on the market since 2014.

Got the wireless one during the previous deal for $176

  • Can you plug a 3.5mm cable into the wireless version whenever you need to?

F these guys. Done with headphones and JB Hi-Fi (for at least 24 hours)

  • Will there be any bulk buyers of 4 or more for these ?

    • If in Melbourne depends on postcode and how big your extended family is if you want these for the lock downs and people skyping between suburbs becasue now you can't have the big family gatherings for a few weeks.

  • I've gone through three pairs of these. The hinges are being held together by tiny pieces of plastic that break after a year of use.

If you've gone through 3 pairs with the same issue, and it's an issue that no one else has, maybe the headphones aren't the problem ;)

      • It is one of the most common problems for this headset, to the point where you can easily ebay hinge repair kits. The sound quality is great, but its built out of cheap plastic junk

    • Know someone with a 3d printer? This fix works surprisingly well. Hinges broke first on 2 sets I went through too. Still using a pair with these clips I fixed a year ago.

  • Would still recommend the ATH-M40X over these any day of the week if you're doing production work.
These have nice bass response though if you're into it.

  • Charging $309 for these now at JB, they were great value at $176-200 ~1-2 months ago, not even worth considering at nearly double the price now.
