Must be a lot of people’s childhood dream

    • i hope it comes with a coin/token slot.

      • +39

Yeah, I'd want my friends to chip in after spending this amount of money.

      • Doesn't look like it. I doubt it for that price, but it would be cool.

      • -3

        Has 2

        • +1

          No it doesn't.

      • +2

        SUREYOUCAN

    • At this price it might just stay a dream for some..

    • +1

I had one back in the day, an authentic SF2 arcade machine in my bedroom. It was well used because at the time (early 90's) was one of the only ways to play a multiplayer computer game. Those were the days…

      • Thats awesome dude. You mustve kicked the shit out of people challenging at the arcades haha

  • +19

    I want NBA Jam.

    • +22

Old school 4 player TMNT would be my choice, but NBA jam TE would be right up there on my list.

    • -7

      Raspberry is better

      • +1

        shampoo is better!

        • +1

Conditioner is better…makes the hair silky and smooth!

          • @scopien: Shampoo : Oh, really, fool?
            Conditioner : Really.
Billy : Stop looking at me, swan.

        • +1

          I prefer real poo.

  • +25

If you're paying this much for an Arcade 1up you should just spend a couple hundred more and you'll end up with being able to get a flatpack full size cabinet and a small pc to go in it with more games.

    • +3

Yes I agree. Fighter games get dull quickly for me.

      • +38

Not when you had to bike to the local deli, it cost 40c to play and you only had $4.50 saved up from recycling bottles.

Well, was the case for double dragon anyway.

        • +11

Haha love it. you Really are an old bugger! Ahh life was so much simpler then :)

        • +3

5c bottles in those days too!!!

        • +2

Double Dragon, my mates and I used to have a jam and wander down to the local hamburger place (walking after a few bevvies), play Double Dragon until the order came, then wandered home again … and we did actually finish it too …

          • +1

            @neophytte:

play Double Dragon until the order came

Order must have 45 minutes cause it takes forever to finish that game.

            • @serpserpserp: @serpserpserp - the local guy knew us well, and would keep the burgers on the grill until we were done … :)

          • @neophytte: But who would win the fight to take Marian home?

        • +2

We'd ride to the local fish and chip shop, cash some bottles and play Space Invaders and Pac-Man, 20 cents a game. 1 bottle=1 game. Until they had Space Wars (I thin thats what it was called, it was 40 years ago) which you could just zap with an electro static charge after rubbing your nylon tracksuit, and it would give you free credits. Happy days!

      • -1

        Than why you here ?

    • +2

      oh is this not full-size?

      • +2

I don't know the exact dimensions but they are pretty small. It's like ~1.1m tall I believe. You can get a riser for it though.

        • +6

These are the same that aldi put out a while back?

        • +1

I've never seen a riser for sale in this country - I ended up making my own dodgy one the brings it to standard arcade height.

      • +6

I made a riser in an afternoon for $20-something from Bunnings.

https://imgur.com/a/9Idyf1D (riser build, plus button/stick swaps, plus RetroPie mod)

        • +1

Wow I clicked through and did not expect that! Nice job :)

        • +1

          Brilliant!

      • +1

Says in the listing it's 3/4 size.

        • That's what she said.

    • +1

To do i nice job you need to spend a fair bit more. I just finished building a 27" bar top and I spent $2300 not including the router/router bit for the t-molding. I bought premium monitor and Sanwa Silent joysticks but it's still circa 2k for a decent PC based system, cabinet, speakers, amp, vinyl graphics etc. Go Rasberry Pi and it'll be much cheaper….but then you can't play the newer games like SFV/Mortal Kombat XL etc. Great fun building it but it can easily blow out cost wise.

      • +2

        Show us the pics ;)

    • why not just have a PS4 or XBOX….i think this is sort of the 'feel' of the 90s

  • +14

I bought a real pinball machine during covid. This could help people with cabin fever like my pinball has helped me. Medicare should fund these in people's mental health plans.

    • I wish, it's the only way I'll ever be able to justify buying one, they're just way overpriced for what they are.

    • +1

I think the problem with the Pinball machines that are elaborate enough to be entertaining long-term need frequent maintenance.
I wonder to what extent you can maintain them yourself

As a kid obsessed with Pinball I was constantly having to wait for the mechanic to fix my favourite games

      • +2
        • $4650? At that price, I'll take 3!

        • +1

I mean its more practical, but (without having tried a virtual one) the kinetic feedback from a traditional pinball machine is on another level. Plus you can do silly stuff like shunt it in certain ways to cheat ;)

          Wish I could justify it

          • +1

@Intoxicoligist: You can set the virtual ones up to give feedback on the button presses and the like. It obviously isn't going to replace a real pinball machine but having seen a expensive custom made one like what was outlined above, It was pretty impressive. I really want one. But who has the time as you get older? Maybe in retirement….

      • +1

Homepin machines include a massive manual for repair. Many parts you could just use a 3d printer for. It's an Aussie I know who is building them out of Taiwan currently and ships them worldwide.

        • They look good and great price for a new 'real' pinball machine. I have my eye on one, but limit space and resources - especially at this time.

    • I bought a real pinball machine during covid.

What did you get? I hope a nice 90s Bally/Williams?

      • +2

A rare Gottlieb. Excalibur from 1988, only 1700 ever made. We have to the workshop manual and have been having a blast playing and tinkering with it. Got it all working now and converting to LED lights too. It's a relatively simple rules, but it's so addictive.

        • Nice!

        • +1

My two favourites from my early years were Terminator 2 and Star Trek. The T2 Pinball I got so good at I could get free plays every game. Wasted youth lol…

  • +8

I want a remake of the Daytona arcade. now that is hours of fun with mates if you have 4-8

    • +2

Lol you have my vote but with the amount of space those would take the MRS would kick me out.

      • +10

        Kick her out first.

      • +2

For a second there, I thought the MRS was an organisation.

        • +1

Like the KGB, or the FSB, or the CIA, or the FBI, or the DEA

        • That's MR. F

    • +3

There is a hd remake at arcades. The deluxe version has moving seats as well.

      • Yeah we went to a time zone while holidaying on the Gold Coast, I hadn't been in one since daytona was THE new game.
I think it was daytona 4 or 5 now, pretty fun. New Sega rally and the Mario Kart were great fun for our group.

    • +2

couple of logitech steering wheels & some wood. go for it.

  • +1

    Want a DDR machine!!

  • +5

They've gone up in price a lot. I got mine for $295 from Aldi.

    • +1

Downside is that they're not easily found and stock levels can vary wildly between stores.

      • +1

I don’t think there’d be any more stock at Aldi - they were clearing them for $149 late last year.

        • I tried to get one but their was no stock anywhere.

          • @serpserpserp: Hey had some in Darlinghurst for ages, I didn't go for it in the end, but I haven't seen a deal like that since. Considering how long they stuck around I doubt we will see them again at aldi

    • +2

Got mine for $149 clearance from ALDI

Been collecting dust mostly. They are too small. Neck cramp

      • Yeah remember my local dumping the SF2 and Gauntlet cabs for $149. I umm'd and arr'd about getting one of the Gauntlet ones but after reading some reviews that werent overly favorable i decided to leave it. Will just settle on the dream of building a cab myself one day. For now i console myself with a Arcade Next build and some Xbox one gamepads connected to a Nuc.

      • -1

If you deliver, I'll buy it for $149.

      • I'll buy it off you if it has no damages / dents, and pickup from you :)

  • Is this an actual JAMMA board cabinet or an emulated Pi thing inside?

    • +1

      Neither, it's some proprietary PCB.

  • It is possible to replace the board with a Pi with these cabinets for people that don't feel comfortable making their own cabinets but want the other games. Although the price is definitely not right IMO, maybe if you could get these cabinets for the ALDI price it'd be worth looking into.

    • +3

Depends what you want I guess.. if you want to be genuinely collectable, then nothing beats true JAMMA. If it is you want a stand up cabinet for MAME, there's already plenty of options for that. This proprietary PCB thing is meh..

    • +1

There are some videos on Youtube explaining how to do this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09DQCOr6zQM

    • Yeah I have one of these but with a Pandora's Box installed inside - replaced the sticks with Sanwa, buttons with Happs and wired them all to a CHAMMA (JAMMA) edge connector to plug the Pandora's Box into.

      • If you go to all that effort might as well got a shell from somewhere else and do a full size one.

  • Note these are 3/4 size cabinets with 17" screen not full size

  • 3/4 size curbed my enthusiasm.

  • +1

My Aldi cleared them out for $150 last year. Thesee smaller machines are annoying imo. Might at well spend a little more and grab a full-size machine.

  • I had a LAI upright cabinet, that looked like this. I had a PC in there, and it kepy my kids & their friends occupied for hours on Mame. Regrettably, I didn't have room to take it with me, before my ex decided to destroy it. :(

    • Dang you had a Mortal Kombat original cab? They are worth something.

    • What are those joysticks called? Have been trying to source them for a home-made fightstick for XB/PS/PC but couldn't because have no idea what they are called!!! All I see info on is Sanwa // Happ // etc… which are exactly NOT what I am looking for in a fightstick.

I'd buy a pre-made fightstick but every single one on the market seems to use the looser sanwa/happ/etc, and not these stiff ones in your picture.

      • MCA joysticks. Australian made, though they're not made anymore so you'll generally find them used.
