  • Why does the description say "640gb"?

    • They took the description from the Samsung web site and they also wrote 640gb. I assume a mistake as this is the description that appears also with the smaller 640gb model and a few of the other models as well. So guess Samsung was lazy and never bothered to updated the product description to reflect the different size models they sell.

Poor web site. You have to log in/sign up before you can check the postage costs. Even though the site says is calculated by weight and size using Australia post from Victoria 3168.

  • Not a 'great' price (as shipping is extra), but for me, after seeing 2 people have bad experiences with these drives (and their replacements) within warranty….not sure I'd been buying this one just on price. No + or -.

    Price isn't that spectacular: http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=1tb+s2&spos=1

Also, I think the USB 3.0 version which goes for about $100 would be a better buy.

Usb 2 vs 3 won't matter on a mechanical drive.

        *facepalm*

      • i wonder what causes this misconception to be so widespread lol

Theoretically, USB 2.0 = 480Mbit/s = 60MByte/s. Under real world conditions, this would be a fair bit lower.

Mechanical hard drives tend to operate around 70-100MByte/s (real world) depending on specs. Taking the above into consideration, it's not difficult to see that a mechanical HDD would easily saturate a USB 2.0 link.

USB 3.0 on the other hand is rated for a theoretical 5GBit/s. You don't even need to do the maths to see that there will be a real word difference between the two standards for mechanical HDDs.

  • I had alot of problems with Samsung hard drives in the past, ended up giving them away and bought WD instead.

    "Once burnt, forever burnt"

    • Ive never had any problems with my 2 Samsung drives and have had them about 12 months, how many Samsung hard drives have you owned alot?

  • Not a bargain. Cheaper price at ARC - where you can walk in and pick it up.

  • Bought this drive a 3-4 months ago and haven't had any problems. Seems reliable at this stage.

    • countdown is on….all the best.
