Bosch 9kg Heat Pump Dryer WTW87566AU - 9 Star Energy Rating - $1666 ($2999 RRP) @ The Good Guys Commercial (Membership Required)

90

Have been looking at new laundry appliances as my Bosch washer/dryer combo just died and it's pretty hard to figure out what to buy. Notice at TGG Commercial they have this dryer which retails for $2999 for $1666. Seems like a bit of a bargain, hence the post. Has one of the highest energy efficiency ratings on the market it seems. Also 9kg is about as big as it gets on heat pump dryers with only Asko making a 10kg one but that's at a different price bracket. Made in Poland not Germany but I think none of the Bosch dryers are made in Germany anymore (if ever).

Sold by appliances online for 1786, the RRP isn't a fair indicator of a bargain.

I own this machine. Paid $1688 (included delivery Appliances Online) on May 15.
Love it. Happy to answer any questions you might have.

    • Which washing machine have you paired it with?

Was tossing up between a Bosch set or an LG set..

      • No rhyme or reason in my pairing because purchased years apart so didn't consider it ultimately like that.. A Samsung Digital Inverter Bubble Wash VRTPlus 11kg

        • Thanks, unfortunately mine will be stacked so safest to go with the same brand.

          • @iampoor: I understand. I'm confident mine would work.
I think Bosch have 2 genuine options for you… one with/without a sliding drawer? Can look into it further if you can't find the right information. Pretty sure I have bookmarks somewhere.

            • @seamonkey: Thanks for the offer, I've seen the genuine options, the drawer does look handy.

Bosch has the washer and dryer doors opening one to the left and one to the right but has a nice drawer stacker…

LG has the washer and dryer both opening to the left but just uses metal brackets to stack so no drawer…

              Such hard choices….lol

              • @iampoor: close your eyes. flip a coin. :)

              • @iampoor: You can swap the door on the dryer so it opens the other way. It's a very simple operation.

My Bosch washing machine doesn't allow the door to swap, but other Bosch models may.

Not also that the stacker with the included drawer needs to be screwed in to the top of the washing machine - but they do include a depth gauge so you don't accidentally screw too far. And, it isn't a pull-out drawer, it is a pull-out shelf.

      • I like the smart home features on the LG but sometimes I wish paid for a German made Bosch knowing it should last me a decade.

        • Never had anything like it. It's like a tank sitting there in my laundry..

    • Whats the condensation like? Any at all?

      • Awesome.. Unaware of it and that's deep in the Victoria cold winter. If I'm leaving the house I might crack the internal laundry door just so my 9 star buddy can really breathe. Sense I don't need to though.

      • Zero condensation. All heat pump dryers will use an internal condensor.

  • Thanks seamonkey. Do your bedsheets get tangled up in a ball? I read that this one doesn't have any reverse tumble as Bosch don't believe in it for reliability issues or something.

    • That is correct. Only goes one way. I would agree the output is 'bally'. I tend to give it a little longer 20 minute or so time based option. At that point I might change its shape to aid in the drying process.
Hasn't felt like a hassle at all.. The 9 stars. The fact the say the sound level is like a normal conversation decibel wise. Like it quiet. Like it cheap to run. Did a interesting comparison to a $199 Aldi. Cost over 10 years all up wasnt much different, but one path I have a machine I'm happy to use. Only caveat I'll add is I got by without a dryer for years. So maybe a hair-dryer as a drying machine would have made me happy at this point. Whole family love it. 2 + 2 kids. Goes from a 11kg Samsung washing machine and it's pretty much up for that transfer.

On full blast how many kWh does this use?
9 star sounds good but how good it good.

    • Hard to know. No meter hooked up.. Anecdotal evidence is ultra low KWh based on monthly electricity bills. No dryer vs this dryer seem to increase bill by ~$30 a month. On maybe a couple of loads every couple of days. Certainly seems like daily. I did work out before I bought it an insane calculation.. This machine + what I pay for electricity came out at 0.47 - 0.49 per cycle! Crazy.

    • Hi I have the older model of this, and it uses around 1.8/2kw on full ball but it seems to have an inverter type setup so it can vary from between 800w to 2.2kw sometimes uses only 1.1kw.. so the usage varies as it works.

All in all i have found the machine to be outstanding, ours gets used around 3 times a day for about 4 days a week and combined with my home solar setup is excellent.

      • yeah. They clearly make good stuff. That solar must just make the whole setup amazing. No solar here. Jelly.

  • Bosch rrp is a joke

    • I agree. This price is about as good as it gets though.

  • I just posted the matching washing machine a Serie 8 German made Bosch 9kg which I noticed was $1388 @TGG commercial. Am tempted to get this as a set.

    • Here if you have any questions. After 2 months usage - if there is a better machine out there I'd love to know about it (but to be fair I don't have a long history of having dryers, normally just followed weather cycles, occasional laundromat dry. Had a F&P 10 years ago - certainly chalk & cheese.

      • How is your Samsung washing machine? Am getting tempted by the Korean brands now too. Both my Bosch washer/dryer combo and Bosch 6.5kg heat pump dryer died after about 7 years so I'm now just that bit hesitant on getting Bosch again.

        • Big fan. Had it for 3.5 years now.. Almost daily. Hasn't skipped a beat. Favourite features are the massive 11kg. Less loads. Less often. The add door (can add things via a flap door after cycle has started) . Good for those forgotten socks and jocks. The wifi option is cool but a fraction gimmicky.. Wash quality output is best I've ever seem. 1400 rpm. Dry as.

        • Not great to hear them dying in that period of time.

I had an Electrolux washing machine that was less than 3 years old when it died. Couldn't handle washing all those baby clothes, think my son was about 2-3 weeks old when we bought a Samsung washing machine.

It's lasted over 7 years now and still refuses to die….hmm…maybe I should look into a Samsung pair…

          • @iampoor: Might have misunderstood. Dying? Had the washing machine for 3.5 years..it is perfect still.

            • @seamonkey: Sorry - was commenting about Gior's Bosch stuff expiring all around the same time

              • @iampoor: Ah sorry missed that. I would also totally want more than the 7 years myself.. Double digits always good.

    • The washing machine you posted in the other thread is a good price at $1388.

I did a lot of research on the pricing recently and just bought the same washer and the 8 star dryer (564AU). Not the best price for this dryer i think but definitely for the washer. Also note that the difference in the star rating (8 star vs 9 star) isn't very significant. going by the kWh guidance it'll take 14 years to breakeven, so if there's a great deal on the 8 star one I think its better value.

      • I agree mostly. I believe there were slight differences, not massive. But a few small ones. If I remember correctly what sealed the deal for me was the thought of the 9 star. Realised it would be a small difference but wanted to go that way.

        • Yup I was pretty keen on the 9 star too just because of that. Did the math and felt it didn't warrant the extra premium.

Good to read you've got good things to say on it , can't wait to get mine delivered (bought a month ago but just paid the deposit )

        • Would be keen to hear what other slight differences there were between the two

  • How do I get membership @The Good Guys Commercial?

  • What is the different compare with those sub$300 dryers?

    • build quality, features, no external exhaust request, no condensation, really quiet, ultra cheap to run, quality of finished product - silky soft. Possible you might buy 3 of of sub $300 over time these tanks may last possibly. Warranty. Maintenance, parts, service.

Mum always said she was way too poor to buy cheap.

  • TGG commercial showing $1621 for me.

    • $1666 for me confused

  • Does anyone know if this spins both ways? If not, any idea which heat pump dryers do?

    • +1

I think the only heat pump dryers that spin both ways are Miele ones. You should check out their clearance centre, they usually have reasonable prices there.

    • +1

      Electrolux 8kg heatpump dryer EDH803BEWA
$990 I paid spins both ways delivered

  • I do have this heat pump dryer, it is made in POLAND, it is NOT made in Germany. If you want to, I could up load the dateplate of the machine to verfiy it.

It is market skill, it is a German brand, but you have to bear in mind, it is NOT garantee for it made in same country.

    • I just purchased it at June 2020, maybe earlier version made in Germany somehow, I have no clue.

  • Not trying to hijack the thread, though could someone please tell me if good guys commercial has any Bosch ovens on their site. If so, could you please advise price of cheapest model. Thank you. :)
