Surface Go alternatives with NO hinge + Windows + 4G/LTE + Portable

Hello,

I want something with the portability of a surface go that I can use on public transport as my commute is quite long.
Something that can be used standing up (the train is often full)

With 4g/LTE connectivity.
With windows for certain apps I use.

I hate the surface go because of the hinge / kickstand - it requires you the have the laptop much closer to your body - and makes like sitting cross legged (like at uni on the floor when theres no seats) impossible.

Can anyone suggest something similar with the same size/portability but doesn't have the hinge (it doesn't need to be a detachable tablet/keyboard, - it can be a traditional clam-shell that folds back in on itself - just after the same size.

Possible options if i can find a 4g version - Lenovo Ideapad Slim , Ideapad Flex

Just get the Go without a keyboard and don't open the stand?

If you're wanting something /with/ a keyboard…you'll be hardpressed to find something with this portability that has a fixed keyboard. Netbooks are basically dead…

Maybe a ChromeBook would do you, depending on the Apps you need.

Or maybe this with a Go? https://www.brydge.com/products/brydge-10-5-go

    • Thanks for the reply.

I should have provided more details.

I need they keyboard for studying on the train and bus.

Oh wow thats a great idea that keyboard! May not need a new device after all.

I do need windows due to the apps I use for uni.

  • Why not just get a super nice lightweight laptop and a pocket wifi dongle? Means you can choose any laptop you like, just the minor inconvenience of having a second device you need to keep charged.

    • I know this sounds a bit weird but I walk a bit from my house to the train station so wanted something surface like that can go into tablet form to read when I am walking.

The surface size was perfect for this.

      • I have surface go 2 LTE.. honestly I love it. Windows is a crappy tablet OS but from a productivity standpoint its night and day vs my old Ipad Pro.

        • Is it a big upgrade over Go 1?

          • @fd9: Didnt go for Gen 1. Screen was too small, bezel too big.

This one is big enough to do office tasks (I use a lot of excel and Powerpoint) and the processor on the LTE variant is nice and quick.

Dont do video or photo editing, wouldnt want to test that on this device.

Only crappy thing is the amount of flex in the keyboard. Makes the trackpad sometimes a pain to use.

            • @mooney: Ah okay. Thanks :) That's good info to know.

Yea the keys themselves are amazing but the flex is quite annoying.

  • Samsung Galaxy Book

  • Maybe this more traditional keyboard for the go instead of the Microsoft one?

    • That seems like an almost perfect solution! Thank you :)

  • Hi I don't mean to hijack the thread but it came up in my searches.

Looking at Surface GO 2 for 10yo daughter, something she can do homework on with the keyboard side as well as something to wander around with and use like an IPAD (without wasting money on an ipad like before, that becomes out-dated quick)

Find the M3 is a significant step up from the Intel processor & quite a price jump ($300) and it seems you prob shouldn't bother with the intel processor?

If im getting this device to last longer than an ipad typically used for games, youtube, homework, browsing etc am I looking at the right device? Ruled out laptops, want something more portable-hybrid like.
