Western Digital 1TB Essentials Edition External Hard Drive - $199 @ Officeworks
Western Digital 1TB External Hard Drive - $199 @ Officeworks
OMG… WTF!!!
Who cares if it’s ugly…
That price for a REAL (brand-name) ext’ 1 TB HDD.
I rang my local Officeworks and asked if they had stock.
Spoke to some idiot there who said he didn’t know anything about it, had no stock, no catalogue, no nothing, go away.
I rang Head Office and complained. They rang the local manager who said they had dozens of units in stock and available.
Moral: Don’t take no from an idiot for an answer.
please read the comments before voting negative. and what do you mean “the catalogue is old”? go to http://cataloguecentral.com.au/ and you will find it under “latest catalogues”
Am I the only one that doesnt understand hebe’s post?!?!?!
What makes you think it doesnt come in 1TB?? http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=498
The catalogue is coming out on the 31st of July 2008
I just came home from office works and I have in my hands a 1TB elements series WD portable HD after picking up my customer order (read my post below)
A case of one hand not knowing what the other is doing.
When I rang OW HO earlier today, ‘Chris’ advised me, after she rang the local OW, that there was stock there and available now.
Nothing was said about waiting to buy it.
I will be muchly pissed if I go there later and find they refuse to sell it!
OK, I just rang the local OW again, the night staff didn’t know anything about it because the day manager had gone home.
However, in conversation, they said if I bought a printout of the front page of the catalogue they will price match!?!
I’d ring and check with your local branch before you go to too much trouble, as it does seem that the official sale begins later this week or so.
HERE is the REAL DEAL….
I went in to the office works store and they all had no idea about….because…the caterlog comes out on 31st July and they havent got the caterlog instore or via email yet.
HINT - ASK for a CUSTOMER ORDER to be done using the product ID (WDE1U1TBA) under the description in the caterlog and pay the $199 instore which guarantees you one when it comes in. Which according to the Manager is either the 26th or 27th of July and YES you can Buy it/Pick it up before the caterlog is due out!!!! Remember that Office works doesnt have “SALES” or specials anymore. It is always everyday low prices and they just feature products in the caterlog.
UPDATE Just pick up my 1TB WD essentials portable HD from office works after work only 48 hours after I completed the customer order!!!! :) They have still not received any stock in the store but there are plenty in the warehouse I am told. SO you better be quick you want get your mitts on one before they are shipped out to stores if they havent been already!!!
I am one happy man :)
Thanks to Dansor for good value item posting.
This is what happened to me today -
Found post thought it was a great buy so headed off to Officeworks (Taren Point NSW) to buy it during lunch break. Got there and price tag says $249. Found a salesperson and asked whats the deal - showed him the printout of the Ozbargain page but given it wasnt a “proper” catalogue it was not acceptable. So unfortunately i couldnt buy it for $199. Didnt have the ID number on me so couldnt get them to check.
Went outside rang the H/O who didnt even know about the sale. They were offering to order one for me for $349!! WTF. thanks but no thanks. I agree with Horizon comments - no communication between stores and H/O.
Just a observation - i think should put the period of when the sale is on so people are aware upfront what the deal is. didnt realise until i read all the comments that sale technically starts on 31/07/2008.
Also the link Dansor provided for the catalogues doesnt have it. Officeworks is not a participating store.
People who have purchased one, it would be great if you can you post your opinions on it. Does it have a fan enclosed? i heard its better to have a fan for external hard drives.
Side note - i stopped by HarveyNorman on the way back and they were selling the WD 1 TB “Home Edition” for $249. Extra $50 for Firewire 400 and eSATA connection. Anyone thinks its worth it??? might buy that instead.
Read my and Dr Lobster posts.
I went in last night and bought one for $199 from Artarmon OW!
The actual part number on the box is: WDE1U1000A which is slightly different from the catalogue number (WDE1U1TBA).
The drive is called “WDElements” and IS different from the $249 unit.
The very latest catalogue number is OW2660.
Try again!
Always have your facts right.
Always insist on seeing the manager if there’s a problem, that’s what they are there for.
