I have had my eye on this kettle for a while and found this deal via Amazon. Oddly enough fulfilled by Kogan but $49 cheaper via Amazon?!

I got mine about 4 days ago and no major issues so far. As previously mention (on other deals) the lid is a big "sticky" but once you get the knack of opening it there is no issue.

The only other thing that would be hand is a water level indicator via the smart app, I just try and make sure to always keep the water above 1 litre.

Wowza, this has definitely been way way cheaper HERE

Got one of these nearly a year ago for $60 delivered (from the post the guy talked about the kettle and having sex) - the one annoying thing I find about it is opening the lid via the push button in the middle - gets stuck a lot of the time and need to sorta lift up the lid with another finger

    • Same here, something to do with the condensation but with mine as long as you give it a quick push it's fine. Not a deal breaker.

While I can tell my Google Home to boil kettle, I can't seem to override Google's response to "Tea, Earl Grey, Hot". :)

    • Ive already found there is a bit of a knack to opening the lid, a slow steady press on the outer edge close to the spout opening.

Been way cheaper. Mod: Removed accusation

    • Yep it’s been cheaper but isn’t now (not that I can find).

Also can’t find any alternatives. Some from the US and UK but end up over $200 and 4-6 weeks to ship as well as dealing with wiring/voltage issues.

    • Mod, what was the accusation!?

  • This has been much cheaper before. There have also been several reports the unit and base fusing together due to poor quality electrics. Not even close to a deal at this price.

"I had one for 5 months before the base got stuck to the jug. Once I managed to pry them apart it was evident that a wire inside the base had melted and fused the two parts together."

    • One of the reasons I bought it via Amazon. I’ve had 3 faulty electrical items in the past bought via or from Amazon. 2 were still in warranty period, one wasn’t.

Amazon refunded 100% of the cost within a few days for all 3, no questions asked and no request to return the faulty item! One was a power bank that miraculously started working again! Another was a mechanical gaming keyboard which I managed to fix a loose wire on by resoldering. Both items still going!!

    I owe one of these.

Absolutely not worth the price it is asking for.

The materials used in this (aside from the glass) feels really cheap.

I doubt i will get a years worth of it.

    • I disagree. A similarly built non smart kettle seems to retail from about $50-$80.

I had a Russell Hobbs glass one, almost identical to this and paid $79 almost exactly 2 years ago. It’s still going so will interesting to see how this one lasts.

      • I dont know about Russell Hobbs, perhaps lucky you.

However i do know what i have in hand (this kettle) is something thats very cheaply made.

And judging from past owners here on ozb from previous threads, I'm definitely not alone.

Maybe its worth a punt for you, but if my words are of any worth, i would advice you to give this a pass. Especially at this price point.

        • I wonder if they have upgraded the quality?

I have owned maybe 6 kettles in my life and this is on par with most of them as far as build quality goes.

@[Deactivated]: Maybe yes maybe no.. But i Hope so.
All the best OP, thanks for posting the deal nways.

    • Thanks for the tip. For some reason Kogan first didn’t show up on my PC. It has just now on my iPhone!?

OP - this was about $35-40 before …

    • Yep appreciate that but it’s not at the moment. Does that make it not a bargain? Maybe/Maybe not.

      I’d be upset if I’d paid $159.99! 😃

But i wouldn't even look at it if it's $160, it's not worth that much considering it's been sold 3-4 times before at $35-40. I would wait - I am a true OZB'er*

It would also be 2025 before I could make a cup of tea. I am a true OZB'er.

        • The other thing is this suits our decor perfectly. Everything in our kitchens is white, blue & stainless steel.

There were 3 other potentials right now but I ruled 2 out on aesthetics alone (nice way of saying they were (profanity) ugly!)

        I'd be upset if I'd paid $110.98
It has been $35-$40 since the last 3 years.
Wait for some weeks, it will be back to that price. I subscribed Kogan's email.

The email on 30/07 sent to me is about $79.99 - See this: https://imgur.com/MdvD2oL

        And this is $59.99: https://imgur.com/4lscAAa

  • I’ve been using a smart switch which is fine but if you forget to flick it to the on position for next time then it’s no longer “smart”.

There are almost NO truly smart kettles available here.

Yeah $110.98 (or $109.98) isn’t the cheapest it’s been but it’s the cheapest I can find now and cheapest I’ve seen for 3-4 weeks.

Any other options out there? Must be truly smart as in can turn on and off multiple times without re-triggering a manual switch.

How is this a deal?? This is less than 40 bucks at Kmart!

    • +1

This actual kettle with all the smart features built-in? No didn't think so, your link is for a plain glass kettle.

      • Right, I see. Hadn't noticed the "smart features". Seem like gimmickery to me, but that's down to personal preference, I guess.

        • Definitely not gimmickery (if that is a word?!)

My wife has been undergoing chemo for 5 years so one less struggle out of bed to stand while the kettle boils makes a HUGE difference to her.

We were just using a "smart" switch which was fine but you have to remember to set the kettle back to on (and the switch off).

This is a genuine smart kettle. The nearest equivalent (if you can even find stock) is about $260.
