Such odd giveaways for a mobile, a hair straightener? lol! :D

    • Least they still give a hat and some of those Bruno mars sunnies for the guys. =)

    • +2

the hair straighener is for your other hand whilst you are driving.

      • Oh - I was wondering what it was for. But where do I plug it in?

        • it doesn't matter.

  • how is this better than the $59 aldi virgin deal? extra $40 for crappy straightener/sunglasses

    • The HVGA screen 320x480 is much better than (ALDI's) U8150's QVGA screen 320x240. ALDI's U8150 deal comes with 35 + 145 credits (expire in 30days) though.

    • U8150 != U8510.

      U8510 > U8150.

      • +1

Yes, this one is X3=U8510, which is better than U8150.

    • lol sorry, got the models in the deal confused

  • Good deal on this phone, rivals the Inq Cloud Touch… better than the U8150 and U8180 because 3.2" 480 x 320 screen and faster 600MHz processor.

    • But it is locked?

      • Yes, follow the link to the Australia Post catalogue page. It's Vodafone locked.

Not a bad phone for the price, should run reasonably well and it seems to have decent media format support. My only concern is the poor battery capacity/life (see the link in OP or http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3840&idPhone2=…) On the plus side, it has a secondary camera, so you can make video calls (in theory). That's something very rarely seen in a budget Android handset.

  • I guess in the ~$99 price range this is the best as of right now.

    • The QVGA prepaid Android phones(Telsra SmartTouch, Huawei U8150, X1/U8180) can only be considered a good deal if the price is down to $59, like the ALDI's U8150 deal.

  • If you want Flash - the U8510 has Adobe Flash 10.1.
"Huawei says that the IDEOS (U8150) doesn't have enough processing power to offer full Flash support." Indicates the difference in processor speed!

  • No camera flash (or tourch light) on the U8510. Otherwise good specs.

The Acer MT is still available. MUCH better specs and free unlock for only slightly more.

    • Very hard to find though. Many JB Hifi stores have depleted their supply.

    • +1

I thought it was sold out. o.o.

      • No Acers in any SA JBHIFI.

This phone does have good specs, but you'd be crazy not to spend an extra $29 on a Liquid Metal. 3.6" 800 x 480 screen, 800MHz CPU (much faster), 512MB ram, Adreno 205 GPU

    • +1

Agree. But is that deal still available?

      • Yes. They might be out of stock with some retailers but the deal is ongoing. It was a permanent price reduction I think

        • +1

I called every JB around me and none have stock and no new stock coming in :(

        • Great work guys, looks like yet another product that has been officially Ozbargained!

  • +1

This just looks like a smaller version of the Huawei Sonic, e.g 3.2 inches instead of 3.5 inches.

The guts of the phone are pretty much the same. Wonder if the camera is better — the Sonic takes terrible photos.

    • Yep. But does it use the Adreno 200 GPU?

Kicking myself for paying $188 for the Sonic… could've gotten the superior liquid metal for $60 less :(

      Ohh well.

      • I got the Acer Liquid Metal weeks ago. Happy with it. The only problem is the reception is not as good as my old Nokia phone or my wife's Huawei phone. I could not make phone calls in Parliament or Melbourne central station (while the old nokia phone works fine). And its signal is weak. Probably, because I am using Optus network while the phone works better on Telstra network.

        • +1

That's because the Acer uses 850mhz NextG network, not the 900mhz Yes G network.

  • The big question: can it be unlocked (easily, cheaply)?

Interesting, a new phone from Vodafone but it doesn't support their new, better, faster (apparently) 850MHz network.

    • Could not find any free unlock for this phone.

  • Sold out at sutherland & engadine nsw p.o
    Went like hotcakes
