I bought 1x1.5m HDMI cable Gold Cable V1.4 Video 1080p Lead HDTV from ebay for under $3 delivered. It worked as it should and I bought 2 more. Is there really a difference?

    • +1

      No.. It's hardly a deal.. I paid $15 for a 10m HDMI cable!

      • That sounds more like it, where did you get that from??

Gold plated HDMI cables? Does the gold plating have any affect at all other than an increased price? I know it did on copper due to analogue signals but HDMI…? A quick google seems to show that it doesn't have any real affect.

pretty sure you are right… HDMI is HDMI

since HDMI is all digital there is no effect on signal whether it's gold or not, however gold on an A/V connector is normally there to give it a longer life by preventing corrosion or extra wear or tear, depends on how you use it, if you just plug in the cable once and never move it again, nil advantage to you, but if you constantly plug/unplug it might give you a little less frustration

  • Ebay doesn't have BuyItNow bargains, unless they're from private sellers….

  • This isn't a bargain.

I'll even tick Buy It Now and Australian sellers only to put it on a more even playing field, and you can still get it cheaper.

    Agreed with all-of-the-above.

HDMI being a digital signal, has virtually no benefit from all this gold plated/copper/99% oxygen free blah blah blah.
Signal attenuation is very difficult to have on a digital signal, as many people will know with Digital TV, you either have a picture or you do not. There is no middle ground and it is designed that way.

Save your money, spending more than $5-10 is pointless.

You do understand that this is for 3 cables (so roughly $6 each delivered)?
I always buy these cables, as I don't mind paying a slight premium for a better product. Yes I have also bought those cheap eBay cables. But you need to compare apples with apples. Those are 30AWG, these are 28AWG, have braiding to stop flexing, and colour ends to help figure out which cable plugs in where. It's a premium product and I don't mind paying less than $6 with registered post. I must have purchase at least 12 of these cables and use them whenever I set up TV's. These appear on dealextreme and similar sites for much more than being asked here (typically around $8-10 per cable, then you have to wait a month for shipping).

Hmm I have owned some dodgy HDMI cables purchased off EBAY and from sellers on OzBargain.

From experience, it is not 100% correct to say you have picture or you do not in the sense that with a dodgy cable, it appears to work but then from time to time you get only picture and no sound, or only sound but no picture, or no picture and no sound.

Bad cables can appear to be working most of the time…

I was about to smash my overpriced Samsung Blu Ray player in anger until i figured out that the loss of picture/sound that was occassionally occuring was due to a crappy HDMI cable, not to any fault with the Blu Ray…

Same problem has since occurred with my TIVO - in both cases replacing the faulty HDMI has fixed it.

I'm giving this a positive. Its 3 cables and works out at ~$6 each which is a decent price for a cable. The colour-coded ends is a nice bonus.

I recon to read the specs first before negging. As the REP states, it is 28 AWG. If it is 28AWG in original, they are a bit expensive than the 30AWG cables.
I have bought both cheap 4 dollar 2 metre 30AWG cable and premium 20 dollar 28 AWG, good shielded cables. There is very less interference in premium cables. Quality cannot be seen easily, unless you are watchin full HD 3d content or closely.

Secondly they are not gold plated HDMI cables, they have gold plated connectors. Wires remain copper :)

  • Lol, not a great deal. These are $5, 2M, 28 AWG and great quality (read description…) I own 2 or 3 of these and they've been going good for over a year…

I guess if you want v1.4 and nylon braiding then it's ok… but i don't trust these cables.

Also these guys offer postage discounts…

  • I have these ones. Really tough cord and carries signal very well. Hooked up my Xbox 360, TiVo and media player to my TV and have had no problems at all with them so far (almost 2 years now).
I paid just under $10 for them though…
