Ubiquiti UCK-G2-PLUS Unifi Cloud Key Gen2 Plus - 1TB HDD that are usually around $429 RRP, currently down to $325 and voucher then brings to $295. If cashwards is honoured it should be $292.05.

Had my eye on one for a while as I already had Ubiquiti stack (USG/APs/Switches) and want to setup video surveillance but like the ability to change components to upgrade if they break etc rather than all in one like the DreamMachine Pro.

  • Tempted, I'd love to switch to unifi video

    • Unifi video is on the way out. The new video camera software is Unifi protect.

      • +1

Haha yeah I know wrote the wrong one

        I did mean protect

      • I've been using Unifi Video on a Windows PC and it's been a PIA with service shutdowns, disconnecting cameras etc.
I therefore considered this to replace the PC but realised it's a 2.5" drive which isn't surveillance specific, will likely need to be changed for something bigger (shuck a 5Gb portable drive?) and has a reputation for hot running (some owners even add external heatsinks).
Then factoring in the cost of buying more Unifi cameras (I only have 2x 1080p G3 bullets) @ $200+ each or much more for 4K, I've decided to go with simplicity of a 4K reolink system (~AU650) once back in stock and sell off the Unifi G3 cameras.

        • +1

UniFi Video vs UniFi Protect is like day and night. UniFi Protect works very well and the Cloud Key Gen 2 works well, it can have up to a 5 TB drive and it has a battery backup to allow for correct shutdown in the event of a power outage.

          • @daven1985: I know, hence my initial thoughts of moving to Protect and buying more cameras but while I like (and own) Unifi networking solutions, after doing some research I couldn't justify the cost of staying with Unifi, compared with the Reolink option. One 4K G4-PRO camera costs more than a complete 4 camera 4K NVR Reolink kit…..

        • I spent a bunch of time looking at Dahua / Hikvision NVR vs the consumer Arlo/Swann/Reo etc but didn't like the poor UI of the Chinese brands, and the consumer stuff either wasn't expandable enough, needed subscriptions or quality didn't seem as good.

https://youtu.be/Wswb7hfIDIo video sold me on the UniFi Protect UI / mobile apps, usability etc. Yes I might pay more in the long run but seems a bit more flexible. Each to their own though.

          • @su3050: Yes, I've seen those Crosstalk and also Lawrence Systems reviews but it seems recent changes mean that Lawrence Systems are no longer promoting the Unifi 'surveillance' systems to their clients.
As you say, each to their own.

          • @su3050: Yeah I have had a unifi wireless system, switches and cameras for years. Mostly it is ok, but unifi always manage to do something that just annoys you. I have a windows server that the cameras run off but out of the blue they will stop support this year. Ridiculous for a supposedly enterprise system. SO they make you upgrade but it won't be fully functional for a while, then by the time it is they will get excited by some other project and drop it. Happens a lot.

So the new system may be better, but I am really thinking of turning away from them based on their support, and sometimes but often enough bad software upgrades.

  • Code isn't working

    • perhaps it's targeted, I have "For voucher details and terms, go to My eBay Summary". which links to
      https://pages.ebay.com.au/Buyer_coupons/spendandsave1/

“Eligible Customers” means customers who can see the offer in their MyeBay account. The offer is not transferable.

      “Discount” means:

      Spend $60 - $99 and save $5
      Spend $100 - $199 and save $10
      Spend $200 - $299 and save $20
      Spend $300 - $499 and save $30
      Spend $500 - $999 and save $50
      Spend $1000+ and save $100

  • Like many other Chinese brands Hikvision and Dahua makes great hardware and don't invest much into software.

I have few Hikvision cameras - bud quality is great, image quality is great, NVR usability is awful.
I tried Unifi Protect in my CloudKey plus. But it was continuously crashing when I was trying to download recorded video. UI looks nice but I am not 100% sold I want go forward with Unifi Protect. Camera prices are not helping with this decision either.

I am looking for 3rd party NVR now to try it with Hikvision cameras.

    Good price for ClodKey though.
Please note even if you are not using Unifi Protect Cloud Key Plus got 1 Gb more RAM compared to non-Plus version. And Ubiquiti engineer said they will use HDD for logs in Plus version to reduce flash wear.
So in some terms Plus version a bit superior compared to non-Plus version even if you are not going to use Unifi Protect.
