Was just posting this - beat me to it, well done!

    Great price!

  • +6

Dont need 1 but man what a price!

    • +5

      So you got 2 instead?

  • +1

    Can these be shucked?

    • +3

Yeah should be able to. Normally have to avoid WD portable drives which are mostly soldered onto the usb interface.

    • Yes, shuckable

  • +1

Wow, great price and no external power supply needed! :D

    • +3

That's what a Portable HDD is; you're thinking of Desktop Hard drive :p

  • Thanks just ordered one

  • Thanks OP! Just comment to see how quick it will go OOS

  • +6

Don't need one, grabbed one anyway.

    • +6

      The ozbargain way

    • +6

Needed one, didn't grab one in time.

      Life is so unfair :(

  • I can't add to cart :(

  • Snagged 1 thanksOP

  • Won't let me add it to cart but still says "in stock"
I purchased a 4tb recently, this is an awesome price!

  • aahhh …was going to buy

  • Thanks OP! Got one too, great timing

  • +2

LOL glad OOS. I have to many drives already

    • Same here. Added to cart, but luckily it was out of stock.

  • Good that I didn't hesitate to buy it. Gone in seconds

    • +10

One thing I learnt that if it seems like a good deal on Amazon buy it first and then you can cancel it rather than regret not buying it.

      • The OzBargain Way

      • This is smart way.

  • +7

    Less than 9 minutes? Omfg..

  • Welp.
Great price. Saved myself a chunk there at least πŸ˜‚

  • Do you think can price match at Officework? On the website still show "has Stock" eventhough you cannot order anymore.

Reply: Nevermind… not showing "In Stock" anymore.

  • How many did they have in stock!? Pricing error???

  • Damn missed it

    So good for 5tb man

  • +1

Holy i wish i caught this, I need a new hdd mines nearly full…

  • +3

    What??? Gone in 20secs??
Hahaha I need one , but need to wait for next deal.. always missed out

    • +1

      • +8

You don't have a dedicated monitor with https://www.ozbargain.com.au/live on all day long??

        • I do now. lol

        • I never noticed that before ;P
Thought it would be good to pin, but the title doesnt change when there's new items so I didnt get that little glow notification. So I made a GreaseMonkey script for it….
          https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/411319-ozbargain-live-acti…
…might add notifications for it later, I dunno.

Just out of interest is there something your using to monitor it?

          • @PAEz: Nope, just stock page with only Posts and Comments checked to reduce Votes/Comp spam.

Every so often untick Comments and just skim through what's newly posted.

            • @Hybroid: Thanks for that.
And thanks to your comment noticed it updates the title for messages/comment aswell. ;P

      • +1

Hahhaa yeah, was too late for me too

Really need a 4tb or 5tb portable as mine are almost full now. With the increase of smartphone storage, it's just too many photos and videos to backup

I'll wait patiently for next best deal

My last purchase was a 2tb portable Seagate from Amazon for A$59 shipped… 😁😁😁

  • +6

    Guess it didn't stick.

I cancelled at 105, and ordered this at 97.

At this rate, I will never get a hard drive.

    • Bruh, let's go one more drop~!
I need flashing lights and a Klaxon to snag these deals dangit! Missed out

  • +9

Fk sht man 10 mins all gone bloody hoaders

    • +12

      R U OK?

  • +3

Got one when it was $191. I think it's very slow even for backup.

  • Bugger just missed out, great deal.

  • +3

How is it possible that PORTABLE HD are cheaper than a internal HD? Like what? Wouldn't the extra things you need for the portable drives be more expensive than just selling an internal drive with 1 sata cable?

    • anything is possible with amazon.
      litterally from a to z

    • +2

      Amazon has great deals.

I picked up the Ravpower 26800 power bank 2 years ago at $40 odd and it still is selling for double that amount to date.

    • +2

Always been the case with external HDDs. Mainstream demand is much higher than PC enthusiasts so it can keep costs lower. That's why shucking drives have always been a popular thing to do even though it voids the warranty in most cases.

    • Supply/demand and economies of scale.

  • +9

The one thing I've been watching for here on OB and missed out.
There are more ninjas here than in Japan :)

    • +3

I would suggest signing up with camelcamelcamel for the price that you are after.

    • +1

Most belong to the F5 clan

  • +7

Jesus Christ, unless I live on here I miss out on every deal I want πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  • Is it just me or wouldn’t it be safer having multiple 1 or 2tb drives so I don’t lose 5tb of data in one drive (if it fails)

    • +2

      Just buy two 5TB drives?
Pretty impossible for both drives to fail at the same time.

    • You surely mean multiple 4 or 5 tb drives?

    • Yes but still need 3 x backups. Even if you use multiple smaller drives but if you don’t back up, when one of the drives failed then you are still doomed.

    • If your buying the drives for just pure storage and you dont need constant access too them and backup your stuff and store them, kept powered off (i.e.not constantly connected too your PC or a USB device),.. they'll pretty much last forever, I've got various sized hard drives from years ago (some decades)..
ok still you could buy a badly faulty hard drive from day one which wouldn't help but im sure you'll know about it early and return for warranty or not use it at all

There is an option in Windows 10 were you can have your hard drives power down when they are not in use πŸ‘πŸ˜€

  • Dang, regrets buying 4TB WD in previous deal.

oh well, atleast get longer warranty

    • Were your one anywhere close to shipping? Too late now, but Amazon's cancelling is very easy.

      • got a message from auspost yesterday to expect it 16-21 sept

      • did you get your drive yet?

        • Mines saying arriving 7th Oct - 9th of November LOL

          • @SpeedRunnerLink: What the hell… mines already in Melbourne since the 11th. No update since

  • +2

how exactly do we get alerts for all tech deals?

    • +2

Better not. Or we’ll get bankrupt in no time ;)

    • refresh every 2 mins all day long.

  • Missed :(

  • +1

    I snoozed. I lost.

    • Here what happens when you don't check Ozbargain every 30min … I do every like 2 hours but it's not enough :(

      • actually 30mins is quite long.

1-2 mins is the better option

      • +1

I'm using two monitors for WFH. I'm now thinking to get 3rd one dedicated just for OZB page.

    • +1

      That doesn't rhyme.

      You snoozed, you losed.

  • Grabbed one, thanks op

  • +1

Now im never gonna buy a deal unless it matches this price @ $97 or lower,.. bummer I missed out and sure it be ages before seeing a price like this again, certainly i would've taken 2x off them, 10 TB for under $200 awesome deal πŸ˜‚πŸ€‘πŸ€ͺπŸ˜ƒπŸ‘πŸ€•πŸ‘

  • Damn missed it… Needed this for my new raspberry pi 4 NAS setup

  • +1

5400rpm SMR, Just ok for the price

    • In the market for one. What would be considered 'excellent' based on your rating…?

      • -3

        Good choice:
Seagate Expansion Desktop 16 TB External Hard Drive HDD - USB 3.0 for PC Laptop (STEB16000402) about AU$441 at Amazon
        seagate exo X16 16TB enterprise 7200rpm Helium hdd inside(usually $740 at amazon)

        buget choice:
WD 14 TB Elements Desktop External Hard Drive - USB 3.0 $338 at Amazon
        Inside is a Hgst(hitachi) 5400rpm Helium hdd

  • Never bought good things always out of stock.

  • Damn, this is why I shouldn't have a life.

  • +2

I have been invoiced $8 for shipping.
Could have sworn it said free shipping. Did I forget to uncheck a box somewhere?
Possible as was in a hurry to order!

    • +1

I'm happy too take it off you for $8 more πŸ˜€πŸ‘

      • Sorry, too late , I cancelled. Hate being nickel and dined. JK!

  • Never buy hard drives in odd sizes I figure.

  • Has anyone got problem this device to connect with their tv or blu-ray player?
I have one that never worked with any device (TV, Blu-ray player & Router USB Port) other than computer.

    • A genuine question to me. Not sure why downvoted. Try a smaller capacity HDD, say 1TB or 2TB. A lot of devices only accept HDDs up to 2TB.

      Strange. Can't upvote

      • I have other 2 TB and 1 TB Hard Drives. They seem to work with TV. I have one 5tb Seagate that doesn't work with tv. My TV is Sony Bravia KDL-55HX820 & Blu-ray player is Sony BDP-S390.
Hard disk is formatted to NTFS.

        • It seems to be a capacity issue.
