4K/60Hz Vs 1440P 144Hz Monitor

If doing a lot of gaming but not really playing FPS is 4K/60 the way to go?

Also any 4K IPS recommendations?

  • one has double the resolution quality over the other, and one has just over double to refresh rate over the other

    choice is yours.

  • I just received my gigabyte 34” ultra wide 144hz qhd (1440p) and absolutely love it, that’s coming from a 27” 1440p monitor

If you’re going above 27” (or 34” ultra wide as they are the same height in 3440x1440p) then 1440p is more than enough. You’ll thank yourself for the buttery smoothness of the high refresh rate in my opinion

  • What type of gaming and how big a monitor?

I went for a 34 3440x1440 and love it. I should stop eyeing the 49 odyssey.

If possible, I recommended going to stores and comparing them. The pixel density may not be noticeable so then high refresh rates may win out. Also depends on how beefy your PC is, ultrawide is less than half the resolution of 4K.

  • Gaming like cyberpunk, horizon, rts games

Thinking 32in feel 24 be way too large for desk only have 66cm size desk

  • Go for 1440p 144hz.

4K 60hz vs. 1440p 144hz, for your needs, sounds a bit like a wash out assuming you have a setup that can hit 4K 60 hz and 1440p 144hz. However, lets say in 2 - 3 years games are 30% more demanding give or take, 1440p 100fps is still going to be a great experience, whereas 4K 40fps will be less so.

Both are great, just my opinion.

  • Might also depend on other use cases as well. I have a 4k/60Hz 32" monitor and I really like it for gaming (but I have never had anything more than 60Hz to actually know what the difference feels like), also great for WFH and 4K movies etc as well. The 4K HRD for movies was what tipped me in the favour of the 4K monitor.

If you are looking at less than 32" I think 4K would probably be overkill though.
