Long time lurker, first time poster. And thought it would be fitting that my first post be for Eneloops :)

The ol' OzBargain faithfull Eneloop batteries appear to be on sale through Amazon UK. These look like the 4th gen batteries.

Very similar deal to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/566959, but these are slightly cheaper and come with a storage case. If it's considered a dupe then please remove and apologies.

As per Amazon site:

  • 750mAh capacity
  • Pre-charged with solar power and can be used immediately like a normal battery
  • Rechargeable up to 2100 times
  • Extremely low self-discharge

  • Japan or China?

    • +13

If you zoom in on the photo, the label says they are Japanese. There's also a german review in the listing that says they are made in Japan…. not sure how reliable that is. I had the same question!

      • +1

        robtheman says…

You certainly are the man! Thankyou.

    • +5

Bought this Made In Japan version last year. 2 out of 8 batteries had stopped working.

      • +3

Some reviewers said the same thing. This is not good for the Eneloop brand.

  • No free delivery for 2 packs?

    • +3

If you have prime you get free delivery
if you do not have prime you have to pay shipping

      • Thanks - cos it says $49 free delivery?

        • Free delivery is available for items on Amazon AU if you have Prime. This one is from Amazon UK

        • +2

You need to order $49 or more, so 2 packs would qualify you for free delivery

  • +13

Cheaper than Ikea ? I would like to buy from Ikea but Dan Andrews wont let me go to Ikea

      • +3

some states are barring entry from VIC. I'm not sure which ones though.

But it's probably cheaper to pay for shipping than move house. But then, that would kill the deal.

        • -1

None are. You may have to transit through another state to get to your intended state.

        Lying down.

        • You mad man :-)

    • If only IKEA had an online store.

      • +1

If only Ikea would pay tax.

    • -1

the Ikea batteries only have 500 charging cycle, eneloop have 2000

      • +1

LADDA is the same as Eneloop Pro, not the regular Eneloop, hence the 500 charge cycles.

    • -5

I just cancelled my ikea click and collect order because chairman dan thinks we are kids who can't practice or maintain hygiene while shopping

  • -4

What’s the trick where you order 2 and cancel 1 and still get free shipping? It ain’t working for me.

    • Pretty sure Amazon has closed that loophole some time back

    • -2

You order a different product and then cancel that order rightaway

  • +18

In Japan the numbers 1 - 4 are used to identify the size of the battery and different alphabets for different markets.

    1 = size D
    2 = size C
    3 = size AA
    4 = size AAA

BK-4MCCE = (made in Japan) AAAs for European and Russian markets

BK-3MCCA = (made in Japan) AAs for North America and China

BK-3MCCE* (produced in China) AAs for South American market, Southeast Asian market, Australian market/New Zealand market.

    • +3

Interesting how they sell made in Japan batteries in China but send made in China batteries to ANZ.

      • +3

You can see they want to please chinese customers. But just flog all the rubbish out to ANZ. Because they think we are not knowledgeable and are stupid to know since they think low of us

        • +2

          they're right

        • i don't understand how that pleases them? Wouldn't they have some pride in stuff made in China, just as we would be supporting local jobs if we buy Made in Australia? Or do Chinese see their own local made products to be inferior garbage?

          • @lostn: It's the same with some countries leaving poor quality stuff and shove those to other places that they think its fine to do. They are doing just that.

            • @neonlight: Which is why the yanks buy other countries, to dump their shonky crap on. ie us.

          • @lostn: chinese make damn good gear at excellent prices.

Making stuff for other companies under contract is determined/specified in this case by whoever owns panasonic.

            • @petry: That's right. Same as Tesla selling EV cars in China. The decision is made by Tesla not China

              • @[Deactivated]: The Tesla EVs being sold in China are made in China.

                • @lostn: Yes, what I meant to say is that the decision to sell a product in a particular country is made by the owning company.

          • @lostn: iPhones are made in China. Intel CPUs are made in Malaysia. Everything is made to a standard. If eneloops coming China are seemingly worse quality than Japan then it's Panasonic's fault.

            • @Dream-cast: My question is, can you tell the difference? If you were given a blind test and didn't know which was the Chinese made one and which was the Japanese made one, would you know which is which?

        • +3

Japanese also save the good stuff for themselves. They have special edition cars, electronics, cosmetics, everything only for the Japan market.

    • Not sure why, but I got my BK-3MCCE(AAA battery), it clearly says Made in Japan.

Other specs printed: 1.2V min. 1900 mAh (HRM6)

      • Are you sure AAA batteries and they are 1900 mAh?!?!

        • +1

Oh sorry it's a typo. Should be AA battery…

    • Oh cool.. do you have the source for that info??

      • +1

        here

        And

        Q1 of Q&As on Amazon

        • Cheers good sir 😊🙏

  • AA are $34.98 right? Or is there a hack I’m missing?

  • +1

If you live close to Ikea, it's about the same price for a Japanese made version, without the hassle of making up the $49 to get free delivery.

    • Unless you have prime or are in Victoria.

    • its not, if u look the comparison on youtube, Ikea batteries only have 500 charging cycle, the panasonic batteries have 2000 charging cycle, panasonic are not stupid enough to produce batteries for Ikea that are cheaper

      • +2

Eneloop pro advertise 500 cycles same as the Ladda.

        • +3

          eneloop Q & A

          Q. How many times can the latest version of eneloop batteries be recharged?
          A. The latest eneloop 2100 cycle batteries can be recharged up to 2100 times (when unused and properly stored)

          Q. Can I charge 2100 cycle and former versions of eneloop batteries at the same time?
          A. Yes. Both the 2100 and former versions of eneloop batteries can be charged together.

          Q. How can I tell the difference between the 2100 cycle cells and the other eneloop batteries?
          A. 2100 cycle eneloop batteries first began shipping in April of 2014. All regular (white label) eneloop product shipping from our facility in Columbus, GA, is the latest 2100 cycle battery.

      • seriously??, i got negative vote when i have the correct info

        • Your info is correct but the ladda IKEA batteries are equivalent to the eneloop pros (black batteries) they're all rated at 500 cycles. When people say they're the same as eneloops they mean the pro ones. Some people prefer the pros but you're right about the standard eneloops. I guess real question is how many times would you realistically cycle a battery? Not sure why negged for your post though.

  • Thanks OP

Yes this or 16 Coles lsd for less?

    • In my Coles AA is sold out. So order online and pick up for sure.

  • -1

There’s a 4pack for just over half the price. 2 cases could be handy.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B00MPEZR5W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_f…

  • Shipping cost kills the deal imo

  • +1

I'm very much out of the loop guys, apologies. Is it better for me to drive down to Ikea instead and get LADDA equivalent?

    • -1

      Answer is in comments

    • +6

If you need the 8pack and have prime, this deal is better because case can be used to store away the batteries.
If you only need a 4pack, don’t have prime and can drive to a ikea continently then get the ikea.
If you are in Victoria and need batteries straightaway, get one of these https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/567532
According to many reviews, LADDA are equal to enaloop, make sure you buy the white version as Ikea has two varieties of AAA rechargeables. Only the white version is made is Japan https://www.ikea.com/au/en/search/products/?q=aaa

      • Awesome, thank you very much! I will keep this in mind next time I am in the area where our IKEA (ACT) store is. I am a bit lazy right now so ordered these instead! :P Thanks again.

      • Ikea don't seem to have the gold/brown cheaper version anymore, and I never had a problem with those. The white are closer to Eneloop (on special) in cost.

      • There is a new dodgy seller on Amazon listing the 4pack AAA LADDA for $28.49 + $20.27 shipping lol

    • +2

I see what you did there.

      • +1

You actually just made me realise my accident here…. LOL.

  • Hey guys do you think I will be able to use the Apple charger to charge these??

It's no longer sold by Apple but, the item sold I believe used Eneloop batteries which makes me think I would be able to.

The charger was for AA but should it be ok to use on AAA??

    Thanks guys 🙏

    • +1

Despite having same voltage AA batteries have higher capacity. Usually 2000-2500mAh, AAA batteries usually has 700-800mAh, batteries in this deal has 750mAh. So if this charger doesn’t specifically has a slot for AAA battery, jerry rigging the charger to have AAA battery may cause charging with a relatively higher current put in to charge AA batteries. Batteries may charge faster, but I’d assume it would lower its life as the battery is charged in a higher current than it was designed to.

  • Thanks OP

  • +1

    Could just buy these instead?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/567532

  • Thanks OP. Too lazy so I ordered these, no prime for me. Was happy to pay extra for postage this time around. However based on the useful info I got from glashalful, I will make sure I get the white LADDA batteries next time.

  • +1 for moral support of OPs first post.

Why Energizer rechargeable batteries are not popular here ? You can get them very cheap ($1.95) if you are on TGG conceriege. I got the AA and its Made In Japan.

Haha thanks :) feels good to give back to ozb community in some small way.

    • They're not LSD

      • Ahan … is it really worth it to buy LSD battery or its just a myth ?

        • +1

          Really worth it.

        • Depends how much you value having charged batteries when needed.

If you're using high drain electronics then get EBL instead, cheaper and more capacity.

        • is it really worth it to buy LSD battery or its just a myth ?

I can't believe this is being asked on OzBargain; this would be grounds for an immediate ban if I was a mod here.

Do you like recharging your AA or AAA batteries every 5 days just to keep them at full capacity, even when they're not being used?

If not, buy LSD NiMH batteries.

          • +1

@Gnostikos: Thanks GOD, you ain't a mod here … but what if you use them on continuous basis after charging and they are not waiting in shelf , waiting for their turn ?

  • It's coming Items:$26.60 Delivery: $11.11 Order Total: $37.71
on my AU Prime account, no deal.

    • $0 with Prime & $49 Spend

    • You gotta buy more than AUD49 on Amazon international to get Prime delivery from outside of AU. That's what I'm struggling with, too.. only if I can find 8*AAs at the same price.

      • Thanks for the clarification..was confused. Bought some AAs for $55.00 from Amazon recently but was refunded and my order never arrived. The seller was based in the UK.

  • -3

I heard that only Eneloop pros are decent and still made in Japan anything is are from inferior factories

Only the Sanyo factories are good. After Panasonic bought them out, they went to cheap routes doing in China and sent those to overseas while keeping their China friends at bay still with Japanese made ones.

    I think its discrimination

    • -6

I heard that Australia is so fond of india, and its indiscriminate use of shotguns on peaceful protesters for the last 5 years, that us Australians are signing a huge free trade agreement with them, including State police training on how to blind peaceful protesters permanently.

Apparently because we hate Muslims in exactly the same way as they do we have shared beliefs and attitudes. This will also supply japanese eneloops to us rather than chinese ones because Japan is also part of that new agreement.

Except of course japanese batterys may be excluded from the agreement - you may need to contact your local dollar pollie to make sure eneloops are included.

      • +1

how much of a difference is there between Japanese made and Chinese made? If you were given the blind test, would you know which is which?

        • I suspect that if you hold the battery next to the shotgun birdshot embedded in your body that japanese made eneloops would react differently

  • Is there a free shipping hack without buying anything extra?

    • buy stuff that is not in stock, in stock in a few weeks time.

      • preorder a ps5?

  • Recommendations for a charger?

    • +1

intelligent or dumb? chinese make good intelligent chargers, most chargers sold locally are dumb.
