Stack with a 20% Alexa smart home discount.

Add an Echo Dot (3rd Gen) and the bundle goes down to $117.4

    • Thanks! I've added to the deal! :)

    • +2

Wow, just had to redo 4 orders to add in this awesome deal saved an extra $420

      • same for me, although still not sure how they apply the discounts, seems like it's better to split to multiple orders if you're buying more than 1 type of Hue products

edit: just realised not all Philips Hue were treated equally, apparently only selected products would get additional 20% off with echo

  • Thanks op, have been waiting for a while now

  • +5

Adding the Echo Dot 3rd Gen makes it $10 cheaper combined than by itself, so if you plan on getting this Phillips set, adding the Echo Dot is cheaper than not adding it.

    $117.40 combined price.

Get 20% off select Smart Home products when you purchase an Echo device plus an eligible Smart Home product in a single transaction. Add both the items to cart and the discount will be automatically applied at checkout. Offered by Amazon AU. Here's how (terms and conditions apply)

ALSO, You can stack this again with This Deal, bringing it down to $107.40 for this 2-pack & an Echo Dot.

    • +1

Thank you. I was also able to add a Smart Bridge as well for a total of $152.82

  • +1

I've just purchased a new 75inch tv for the living room. Would this be suitable to put behind to sync the colours?

Also I have no other Hue products, can this work as a standalone without a bridge controller?

    • +2

No, you need a Sync Box which isn't available in Australia yet. Also very very pricey.

Edit: Looks like literally new release here now. $499… https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/philips-hue-play-hdmi-syn…

    • Wait for the gradient light strip IMO. Far superior new product for television lighting.

      • *Requires Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box ($499) and Hue Bridge (sold separately)

that's exy just to make it all work.

        • Prime day 2022!

    • You will need to buy a hue smart bridge for these lights.

Note: Even this will not allow them to sync with your TV unless you're using your pc to do so and have the app installed on your pc.

To sync with your xbox or UHD player or whatever you require another product which sells for $500 AUD at JB. It wasn't available in Australia until recently. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/philips-hue-play-hdmi-syn…

Even then, it will only work with HDR 10 and 4K at 60HZ, not dolby vision.

    • Wait for gradient strip - JB Hifi have it exclusively. These will only project the left/right or up/down - whereas the light strip will do left, top and right with all individual addressable LEDS (better).

You'll need a Hue Sync box ($400 odd) as well or run it from your PC.

      • There's no question the new gradient strip would be better, but there's a couple of caveats:
        - it is hideously expensive right now, and probably will be for some time
        - not only that, it requires the sync box to work. It cannot be used as a standalone light that switches on without an A/V signal
        - the play bars might not be as vibrant as the gradient strip, but they can at least work as standalone hue lights via the bridge, and don't need the sync box to work.

Incidentally, the gradient strip isn't individual LED addessable, it has seven separately addressable zones.

  • There's money I thought I wouldn't spend today. Curse you, Amazon!

  • +1

So far as I know, this Hue Play can't play as a standalone ambient light. A Hue Bridge is required to make them work. Correct me if wrong.

    • yep you need a hue bridge

      • So then this is just an expensive TV backlight?

        • Nope. It's called bias lighting, and once you have it set up you'll never look back. I have this from the twin pack and absolutely love it.

          • @KangaDrew: How does the Hue Play work if it doesn't have the bridge? Are they just stuck on 1 setting/light colour?

  • +1

Added a bridge and a echo dot with the hue device. The total is around $152. Great deal!

  • Ugh why aren't the lightstrips eligible for the 20% off promotion?

Get 20% off select Smart Home products when you purchase an Echo device plus an eligible Smart Home product in a single transaction. Add both the items to cart and the discount will be automatically applied at checkout. Offered by Amazon AU. Here's how (terms and conditions apply)

    • I'm wondering the same

    • yeh the prime day prices on the lightstrips are nothing special…. hanging out for a while to grab, but will wait to BF now

  • +3

Twin pack is now sold out. Just as I was going to pay for it! :-(

    • Same here, I had one in my cart too, was fixing up some account details, went to checkout and get told it's been removed, been waiting months for a decent deal, ugh :(

      • +1

It's only an extra $20 if you buy two of the singles which is s till a pretty good deal. Add in the Echo Dot and a Philips Hue Dimmer Switch and it'll round out to $150. Sell the other two items if you don't want them and make a little coin on the side.

        • Yeah not too bad, just ordered 1 base bar + 1 extension and the 3rd gen echo dot for $132, happy with that :)

    • me too :( it sucks how quickly the stock runs out

    • You and me all!

Now to see whether any other stores (eg JB) drop their prices to match, or just plump for the 2x single packs before they go OOS too.

      • …aaaaand I was too late. By the time I went and bought myself a gift card to get the extra $10 discount, the single base kits went OOS. Agh.

  • God dam I was looking out for the play 3 hours ago. Fek

  • +3

You can still buy the Single base, with extension + an amazon echo, should total $132 (less $10 at $122 if you pair it with the $10 promo credit from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/572228)

$15 bucks more then original deal, but hey, its in stock that way

    • Nice!, just ordered this combo, happy with $132!

    • Or you can spend $0.70 more and get another single base instead of extension..

      • My prime has single base for $73.90 and extension at $68.60, not 0.70 difference for me

        • for me the total comes out to $133 with 2 single base + echo (with single base + extension + echo it was $132.30, that was the $0.70 difference I was pointing out)

          • @relentlessM8: Now i wish I tried that :( , something gone whack with the discounts applied

  • Can someone explain what is the difference between base bar and the extension? If I need 10 light for my TV so I need to buy 1 base + 9 extension? Please correct me if I am wrong.

    • +1

As far as I've seen, the base version is essentially providing you a power supply, which supports up to 3 lights.

Extensions don't come with power supply

  • I bought these last time they were on sale. They’re underwhelming. I mostly have lifx and they’re much more vibrant. The Hue looks dull in comparison. I’m also not really sure what to do with these lights as they didn’t fit behind my wall mounted tv. I think a Lifx z light strip is a better buy for the back of a tv. I have a few of them around the house and they’re amazing.

    • Echoing this comment. Lifx z strip on the back of the TV is just amazing.

    • I found that I needed 3 of these lights to make it bright enough for me, interesting that the HUE Play dual pack power supply supports 3 bars… they know you need the extra one but want to extract more $$$ from you …. I am happy with the HUE Play though. I found that all LED light strips that I have tried eventually peel off the back of the TV and because my TV isn't wall mounted the HUE Play lights sit nicely hidden behind the TV.

  • Damn, I bought the two separate first before seeing the Echo Dot deal… $143….

I know I could cancel and reorder, but the fear of it not processing at the time of the sale is stopping me - lol

  • Single base kit now reporting OOS as well!

  • This is such a good deal with the add echo dot to the cart.
I was getting some hue outdoor lights and the discount was $296 then added a echo dot for $34 and the final discount was $640.

    • Explain how you did that?

      • I bought 6 outside spotlight and and 3 spotlight kits added some extension cables and and a 2 outside motion sensor.

        • +1

Same thing happened with the play bars for me. I bought 6 of the double packs and got a further 30% off the $127 price and a free echo dot to boot.

  • Okay my play bars have arrived and I've put them in the back of the tv! Now what :P

I probably should have listened to people here talking about having to buy the sync box - apart from that I saw in the instructions that you can download 3rd party apps that do a similar thing - I've downloaded hueDynamic which lets you sample some of its abilities, and then you have to pay to remove the timer limits on them. Any suggestions by anyone on which is the best app? Or are you all using the PC+hue sync app+TV method?

    • Plug them into your PC, install the Hue Sync program, then start watching movies on your PC and playing games on your PC.

If you want to use the light bars with HDMI devices that are not your PC, you will need to buy the HDMI sync box https://www.amazon.com.au/Philips-Hue-Surround-Entertainment…

      • If connected to an Android Box just download a sync app and you're ready to go.

  • Just out of curiosity, can you just simply get a Echo plus with built in hub to control the zigbee module in these lights? Better money than buying a specific Philips hub right?

  • This works quite well mounted behind my Xiaomi monitor, but there is a small dead zone in the middle. Hue Sync windows app works great but the mobile Hue app "entertainment area" is a bit fiddly.

Overall, very happy it all came quickly (less than 24 hours, and also managed to sell the Echo for $40 making total spend $93 for two light bars. Thanks OP!

  • Looks like I can return the Echo Dot that got me the discount and get $24.66 back. Anyone done anything like this before?

    • +1

I checked and got the same amount before i decided to put it up for sale. You should easily get $35 if you sold it so no reason to send it back for refund.

      • Good idea! Worst case I'll just refund it in January if it doesn't sell.

        • Was wondering this too and if Amazon will charge you for the discount received when you return the echo
