Lose your keys for good with the Yale assure lock SL. Lock and unlock your home using the backlit touchscreen keypad. Tap the keypad with 3 fingers to quickly lock the door behind you or turn on auto-relock to ensure the door always locks itself after a set amount of time. The assure lock SL is the slimmest smart lock on the market and comes in three beautiful finishes so your door gets smarts and style. Underneath the keypad, there's a 9V battery terminal allowing you to quickly charge up the lock in the unlikely scenario of dead batteries. 100% key free means no locksmiths, no lost keys and better security. Installs easily on doors 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch thick with a 2-1/8 inch face borehole, 1 inch edge borehole and 2-3/4 inch or 2-3/8 inch backrest. Upgrade your lock at any time to work with home kit, Z-Wave or ZigBee smart home systems by adding a Yale network module - sold separately. Don't worry about getting locked out If the batteries die, the lock gives you low battery indications and has a 9V battery Terminal under the keypad for emergencies.

From what I can tell this is a US model (YRD256-NR-619). Australian model (YRD256NRSC) is $299 at Bunnings. This may just be different naming conventions (?satin chrome vs 619 stainless steel)

I am not sure about compatibility with AU smart modules. I am hoping to use it with a AU Z-wave module. If anyone has any insight into this please comment.

Discount (35%) is applied at checkout

EDIT: Oil rubbed bronze model can be had for $160.73

  • Looks not bad but I don't know if I can install it myself.

    • Look at the compatibility checker document in their official website to see if it suits your current door. The installation is quite easy, have a look at the manual or installation video guide. You may need a drill with hole saw to drill a hole if you haven't already got one.

      • Thanks. Gonna check it out. Looks promising.

    • Lock well received with Connected by August network module. Have been installed by myself and no issues at all. This lock is simply amazing and it works with Google Assistant. Ask me any questions if you need help.

      • Thanks WayneOZ. 👍
I need to purchase this lock for three doors, all with the HomeKit module. I have found this to be the best price after Bunnings Warehouse.

Have been installed by myself and no issues at all.

There are previous (really old) deadbolt locks which need to be removed first before fitting these locks.
Should I consider hiring a locksmith or DYI like yourself? I am assuming you found the instructions easy enough to follow.

Also, did you need any specialised tools to carry out the installation?

        • +1

Check the installation requirements here. Page one is for installing on new doors so I'm assuming you can just ignore that. Pay attention to those 6 square boxes down the bottom of page two as they're the key checkpoints. If you can tick all of them (like me) then the whole installation procedure will only need two different size of phillips screwdriver and finishes in 20 mins. Most probably you don't need a locksmith as it's pretty straightforward.

Print the pdf in 1:1 size and you can take it to compare and mark on your door.

      • Hi Wayne,

It looks like Connected by August network module is the best option instead of the iM1 HomeKit module, as the former covers everything and comes with a standalone WiFi bridge.

I need to buy three of these for three different houses and not all of them will have an iPad or Apple TV.

How much did you pay for both the Yale Assure Lock + Connected by August network module? Also, what was the shipping cost?
Is it better to buy them separately?

        https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07GQ2VLSD

The price from the above deal is currently at $352.94 + $26.58 Delivery (AUD).
This is the lowest price I have seen so far.

I went to Bunnings last week. They only offer the base AU model (YRD256NRSC) at $299. The August module is not even within their inventory / catalogue, and therefore they cannot source / special order this item.

Thank you so much for all your helpful advice on this topic.

        • Choosing between "Works with Google Assistant" and "Works with HomeKit", namely Google and Apple, and probably Amazon Alexa, solely depends on which smart home ecosystem you're building at home. They all have pros and cons and there's no verdict which one is ultimately better. I'm a Google fan and every smart device in my home works with Google so Connected by August is a certain choice for me. You don't need to follow my choice, as I said, it depends on the devices you have. And most importantly, the smartphone you own.

$325 is the total price I paid including delivery, as I'm an Amazon Prime member. Considering the delivery fee it's well enough worth the money even this deal alone.

I wouldn't recommend buying these smart modules separately as usually they're overpriced by retailing. If you think they're needed ultimately then better off be within a bundle.

If me I will contact Yale and ask

  • Nest app support?

  • The bundle with the wifi adapter (US plug, but 240V compatible) is also on sale. 25% off. With prime; satin nickel is $327.93 delivered.

  • I got this but I rather go for Samsung locks.
It's auto lock don't detect if the door is within the frame, no NFC and Bluetooth is a pain.

  • From memory the US ones use a different standard of Zigbee/Z-Wave so the Smart modules might not work

    • Do you think this will work if the Zigbee module is purchased locally in Australia? Meaning just buy the lock-only US model and use it with a module bought locally. Not sure if that will be compatible.

      • +1

I bought this lock from US, but a Z-wave module from Australia. Works fine.

Zigbee is the same module both in Australia/US

        • Great assurance. Thanks Jimmy.

  • I've been tracking the price of this lock. So far this is the cheapest I've seen. Normally the Australian model is priced at $299 in bunnings and goes down to about $263 during discounts in officeworks.

If anyone can confirm the difference between the US and Australian model, it will be a great help?

    • Not sure on the difference, but I bought one a few months back from Amazon US and installed with no issues.

I got the one with connected by August module and this allows me to control via Bluetooth, wifi (when away from home) and detect if the door is open or closed

  • If you select Apple HomeKit option it comes in at $251 with Prime. Looks to be a good price. The HomeKit module is currently an extra $90 at JB HiFi and at least you’d know it is meant to go with the US version of the lock. I installed mine in around 45 minutes and it has worked flawlessly since.

    • Do you need the Apple HomeKit module (and iPad / HomePod / Apple TV) for you to be able to unlock the door using your Apple Watch as you walk up to it?
Or, will the Apple Watch unlocking can be made to work over Bluetooth?

      • Need Homepod, TV or iPad.

        • Thanks for confirming. I suspected as much.
If you use the Yale app then you can unlock using your phone (iOS or Android) without any modules (i.e. this is done using the built-in Bluetooth chip).
To use the Apple Watch for locking or unlocking you need to purchase the HomeKit module which relies upon iCloud for secure communication over WiFi.

  • Great discount. I ordered the Connected by August version for $325.

  • what if the wifi network failed?

    • Or out of battery?

    • If the wifi is not working you will not be able to unlock remotely with your phone, so would have to use Bluetooth or just type in pin. If it runs out of battery, you can use a 9V battery on the outside part.

    • if wifi failed - use key pad / bluetooth to open.
if battery failed - 9v battery from outside

  • Does anyone know if it will work with 33mm door thickness?
I suspect I have to add 2mm plate to satisfy the min requirements. Spec says 1.375 - 2.25 inch (35-57.15 mm).

    • +1

Just received the order and it works on 33mm door!

      • Nice I shall wait for the next sale. Been waiting to replace my garage door for a while. This seems the best fit for my door. Thanks for the update.
