I've had this champagne before, its great and even better when it is this cheap. Don't think it is exclusive to members.
It is cheaper than DM ($61.99 in a half dozen, $65 single bottle) or Kemenys ($54.99). That said, it is doubtful that this is "half price" outside of the rather inflated price quoted by VC.
Were I to be spending that sort of money, I'd probably spend a little more and get Bollinger Special Cuvée, currently $54.99 at Kemenys, or $55.90 in any six at DM - a good price when you consider that DM are pricing it at $58.90 for a half bottle in any six.
So the Bollinger Special Cuvée is the one to go with if i want to impress someone with a gift?
In that price range - yes, I think that it would be perfect for that purpose. Although some may argue that you could get a more esoteric Champagne of equal or greater quality for a similar price, such a choice would be far less likely to impress.
It is a very nice wine being sold at a very good price; consider that Winestar are asking $79.99 for it (http://www.winestar.com.au/prod820.htm) and Nicks are asking $89.99 (http://www.nicks.com.au/Product/View/Bollinger-Special-Cuvee…).
It's a very citrusy and dry style of champagne, if you've never tried it.
