Virgin Mobile; iPhone 8GB, $70 a month, includes $520 monthly credit and 1 GB monthly data

Since there’s a deal for 3 being discussed at the moment, I figured some of those people might be interested in the Virgin mobile offer :)

8GB iPhone (originally 16GB but sold out)
$70 a month
$520 monthly credit included + Free to V extra
1 GB data a month included
Uses the Optus network (supposed to be better coverage than 3)

I think from the guys’ calculations for 3 vs Optus, this deal is better than 3, plus has more monthly credit.

:)

Note: I’m not a Virgin mobile employee. Just a Virgin mobile customer. I’m also not personally interested in the iPhone … if anyone has info on those dual sim card phones from DealExtreme though … maybe you could let me know here :)

Note 2: Everyone who voted positive before shosho’s comment were voting on the now sold out offer of 16 GB phone (not 8 GB) :)

Note 3: Snibbo warns people to check the fine print on excess data charges. If anyone finds or reads it, could they write a comment? :)

Especially as I’m looking at a phone costing $200 or less, outright … not so fascinated by the iPhone yet … :)

I’m waiting for Samsung i900 Omnia release in OZ & who’s interest my AT&T/HTC Tynt 2?
Better deal than Optus but overcharge for international calls!

Gravatar

I’ve heard those Samsung got a slow response.

Gravatar

You mean in loading / start up?

Gravatar

At least with Virgin, you can use your Cap towards international calls.

Other providers exclude international calls from their cap usage.

Yes, that’s why it got my +ve

The earlier adopters always pay for the privilege. Apple PC Nokia Sony Samsung - whatever

Maybe we should have a ozpete quotable quotes section in the forums… :)

:) Sounds good to me :)

16GB is now out of stock on the Virgin site.

Gravatar

Not sure … but got a feeling this is a first come first serve offer.

It says Black 16 GB is sold out. They still have white 16GB.

8 GB is on the same plan. Same prices etc.

I’m guessing, people can grab the 16 GB till it’s all gone. Then there’ll only be the 8GB models left on that plan …

Having second thoughts about the Deal express $200 phones (but not ‘cos I’m going to get an iPhone … really … I can resist :P )

Gravatar

Oh, I must’ve been typing at the same time as shosho. Will update deal now. :)

Gravatar

That was quick for them to run out 16GB black!
I only want Samsung i900 Omnia, please let me know when it will release in OZ.

Gravatar

Good find :)

If I didn’t have a large balance in my prepay account I think I’d be giving this a go. Probably the best iphone plan I’ve seen (not that I’ve looked very hard at the plans).

Gravatar

Meh, iPhone

Gravatar

Has anyone heard of any local dual sim dual network phones? :)
Some of the DealExtreme ones let you have 2 sims in. A call can come in on either, and it’ll tell you which one. Then when you want to call or SMS you can choose which sim to use :)

Not sure how well they sync with organisers though, or how good is the interface for putting entries into the phone …

Check the small print for excess charges. I heard a report recently on ABC radio that some Virgin Mobile plans have an excess data charge of 1.5c/kB. Doesn’t sound much but it works out to $15,000 per GB. Haven’t checked as I’m not buying one!

Gravatar

Thanks Snibbo. I haven’t gone with Virgin’s data yet, but was considering it. I’ll make sure to check the fineprint.

What network does Virgin use?

Gravatar

Optus. Virgin Mobile is owned by Optus.

Just wondering has anyone in here sign up?
Would virgin mobile provide you an unlock code if you request?
