One of the best camera out there for vlogging.

    • Good price or to wait?

      • This is a good price. Been stalking this for a while and I think this is the floor for a while

        • Is it good for making videos for youtube/social media?

@Modesty: Been vlogging for a year with the VA(pretty much the same camera other than mic jack, screen and a couple of other bits) and I personally don't like that the lens is 24mm at it's shortest which makes your face the size of half the screen. While the AF is amazing & IBIS, I personally am looking for a wide angle smaller camera or even a phone instead of carrying this around.

The camera itself is small but with a grip, mic, 3 extra batteries & possibly a wide angle converter, it sort of defeats the purpose of the size benefits.

edit: If you're doing videos in the style where you put the camera in front of you and sit a bit further to review products or talk into it, the angle doesn't matter so in this case it is an amazing piece of equipment for it's size and hardware. I'm sad to see mine go to be honest as I had the mk3 before that and really love it for filming b-roll & taking very high quality photos.

  • only one bought recently, hah

God damnit OP. Just made me spend $899

Never heard of this range. How does it compare to the rx100 series?

I had a mk iv and wow, in the right light could it produce some good photos compared to my dslr/mirror less gear! I only ask because the IV is now around this price (I paid this much when they were new!) and they're considered one of the best P&S cameras in the market.

You could pretty much consider it a part of the RX100 series, it has additional features (and trade offs) focused on video. Probably more comparable to a RX100 VII with additional video specific features and the lens of the V.

  • This or the GR III?

    • +2

      Those are for…very different use-cases.

GR is for street photography and street photography and street photography.

      This Sony is for vlogging.

They each have their pros and cons as far as the specs are concerned.

Would make a very capable stills camera, great price for latest gen tech. Has the RX100 VII sensor and internals with the lens from the V. With all of Sony's AF goodies also seems like the ZV-1 wouldn't miss much with having a few loss physical control options.

  • These or the latest iPhone/ galaxy s20 for image quality and video?

    • Depends how you want to use it. Honestly the latest gen phone cameras are very good for the majority of people. I dont expect these 1 inch stand alone cameras to stick around for much longer.
Saying that the AF and stabilisation in the zv1 are fantastic. This can act like a mini cinematic camera.

      • If I was interested in making amateur videos or vlogs (I’m not), I’d probably buy the iphone 12. Some of the advantages over the ZV-1 include much better dynamic range, much better battery life, much wider image, Dolby vision HDR. Your video files can also be shared wirelessly to your iPad or iMac/MacBook via airdrop in a matter of seconds.

I have an eBay voucher: TSS200X8GHTN3FQM for an extra 50.00 off.

    Brings it down to $849.

I won't be buying one, but hopefully this voucher works for others.

    • Tried to use, but doesn't seem to work. Thanks for sharing it though!

    fantastic deal!
Best all-rounder content creator's camera, the small form factor making it very usable in almost all environment, the picture and video quality crush the smartphones (of course you need to know to expose and shoot properly)

    • Any evidence that the video quality crushes smartphones? Is that a blanket statement that includes all smartphones, including the ones that can shoot multiple images and combine them in realtime to produce much higher dynamic range than the Sony ZV-1’s tiny sensor is capable of? And the ones that can shoot 4K 60fps (the Sony can’t). How about battery life? How about ultra wide angle?
