Good machine, reasonably slim and light for a 15incher. Bought one in an earlier sale. Screen listed as 220nits but turned out to be 280nits IPS (BOE nv15n3d). Flicker on this panel can be obvious to some when in lower brightness settings.

Single channel RAM but with only one of the two RAM slots occupied. Would recommend adding another 8GB RAM module for dual channel operation. Amount of memory dedicated to graphics is fixed to 512MB and doesn't seem to budge despite the extra RAM installed. This might cause issue on some games.

Came with SSD bracket for second nvme slot. Top lid and keyboard deck made out of aluminium, but bottom panel is made out of plastic.

Fan can be audible but not excessively loud under load. Keyboard deck and bottom of the machine can get warm under load as well but processor temperature is generally in check. There is no obvious way to adjust the cooling policy on the device, however, so you are left to the mercy of the system.

Battery life is okay with the 3 cell but could use a larger battery. The laptop can be charged over USB-C PD (using a 45W adapter).

    • Great to know - thanks!

Have you tried any AAA titles with this?

      • lol u can't game on this machine mate

      • Haven't tried much gaming on this but Ace Combat 7 was a bit choppy, albeit still playable. Rocket League and World of Tanks both run reasonably well. Bear in mind that the GPU is probably on par with a MX250 / GT1030, so you shouldn't expect too much out of this.

        Your mileage might vary though.

    • Hey mate, would you happen to know how long does the battery last with just web browsing/word processing with reduced brightness and no gaming?

I have gone through around 5 hours and it still had a bit of battery life left - I think 6 - 7 hours would be a fair guess.

this might be the best comment I've seen on ozbargain. Gave potential buyers a full overview. Kudos!

    • FYI, the BOE nv15n3d has a listed sRGB coverage of just 50%. Not a problem for productivity but for those who wants a 'punchy' display for web colour work, it may not be ideal.

Reviews say it fares around 60% which is below average.

  • Q's:
Is the ram soldered & is there a second empty ram slot?
Is there any issue with replacing the wifi card to AX?

    • It has 2 RAM slots with 1 removable 8GB RAM module in the machine I got.
Wifi adapter is installed as a module - should be able to replace relatively easily.

The Business side has the same model with the Intel 11th gen for about $1000

    https://www.dell.com/en-au/work/shop/business-laptops-ultrab…

CPU is a bit weaker but it makes up for it with a better GPU. The choice of Xe graphics and the MX330 is a bit weird.

    • Vega 6 is better for Fortnite apparently.
Some titles MX330 is faster probably thanks to dedicated vram
I suspect the Ryzen would be a lot better for power consumption and less thermal throttling.

    • I've seen a lot of stuff comparing 11th gen i7 to ryzen 4000, but not much info RE 11th gen i7 vs i5. Would you happen to know how they stack up? Is the i7 worth the extra bucks?
      Cheers

      • Just be careful with the i7 upgrade with Dell as a lot of configs lose the dedicated graphics chip.
