2x each Double Adapter $3, 4-Way Powerboard $6, 10m Ext. Cord $12 (Plus Delivery or Free over $45) @ Target Australia

600

I was in the Launceston city Target this afternoon and noticed a big pile of 10m extension cables in the clearance rack, with a ticket next to them advertising 50% off the second one if you buy 2. When I looked on the web site I saw the same advertising for 6 products in total, so this should be national in-store and also available online.

Just in time for the Black Friday sales when you'll be buying more things that need extra power to them!

Here's the complete list:

Target Vertical Double Adaptor - $2 ea, $3 for 2
Target 4 Way Basic Powerboard - $4 ea, $6 for 2
Universal Inbound Adaptor - $5 ea, $7.50 for 2
Target Powerboard With Surge Protection 4 Outlets - $6 ea, $9 for 2
Target 10m Extension Lead - $8 ea, $12 for 2
Target Powerboard With Surge Protection 6 Outlets - $9 ea, $13.50 for 2

Edit: apparently this has been going for a while. OzB user clear posted a comment about it in my last deal.

  • Perfect timing I need a 10m Extension Lead.

    Thanks OP.

  • Deal was active in your last post ;)

    • Are you referring to your comment here? I wondered about that, but since you didn't post a link to the web site I couldn't be certain. (I don't recall seeing the shelf ticket back then.) I'll update the original post to reflect that.

      • Yeah I wasn't clear enough on that and wish I took a photo. It had been many years since I'd been in that store (was travelling through) and the electronics department was truly depressing. Used to be at the other end of the store and significantly bigger.

          Yeah I wasn't clear enough

          Username doesn't check out.

  • Are these powerboards with surge protection UL listed?

    • Sorry, no idea. I will be near the store tomorrow (it's only a few doors away from the office) so I can check then for you.

    • Guessing the joule rating wouldn't be much..
Also agree this stuff cheap as at Bunnings

    • I've got a few cheap powerboards, was thinking about spending $39 on a decent 6-outlet Belkin surge protector (525 or 650 joules of protection - higher the better but seems good). Probably worthwhile for storm season?

Arent these just the normal prices or equivalent to kmart or bunnings?

I checked and you're right for some items

      Arlec Double Adaptor $1.90 each
Arlec 4 Outlet Powerboard $2.48 each
Click 10m Extension Lead $8.96 each

Prices for the surge protected powerboards and some quantities look pretty good though, those are much more at Bunnings

Arlec are rubbish quality though. I bought several Arlec double adapters when I saw the good price, and regretted it. For many of them the holes in the plastic didn't line up with the electrical contacts inside, and when I cracked one open to see why they didn't work, I found they have a weird contact design that will only grip your plugs if the plug's pins are exactly the correct thickness. Some plugpacks wouldn't stay plugged in.

That said, I don't know how good the Target double adapters are.

A couple of same style double adapters bought from Coles fairly recently and internal contact OK for standard plugs. Several L/R Coles double adapters bought and consistently very good. Quite a discovery.

For some years now, 'special' set of prong-removed plugs, including thin metal China adapter ones, employed to check double adapters, extensions cables and powerboards before use, as quality has become more variable over time.

Yes, similar observation of Arlec product.

@[Deactivated]: Now when I go shopping for double adapters and power boards, I take a torch with me, and peer inside the holes to see if the contacts are good.

I've seen some really dodgy power boards. I had a Sansui-brand power board with illuminated power switches. The transparent top of one power switch snapped off, and ~1mm below that was the bare live contacts of the neon used for illumination! Dangerous.

@Russ: I have more than one powerboard with such poor internal contact on some sockets that switch-fusing melt has gone on. A number of discarded double adapters where arcing has clearly come pretty close to actually starting fires.

I used to only do the peering down sockets thing, now just carry one of the one-pin plugs into stores to buy - when I remember to take it with me… I have forgotten on occasion.

  • Anyone got 2 x Target 10m Extension Lead for $12? Mine shown as 2 for $16.

    • +1

I just tried - I added one to the basket then updated it to two, and the price automatically adjusted. I also bought two in-store earlier today, and the register also automatically adjusted without the cashier needing to do anything.

      • Thanks for testing. It works now. Problem was I added multiple items at once. Only works for first item.

  • Would I be able to get 2 and return one to get the discounted price?

    • Yes. Also works with buy 1 get 1 free deals.

  • +1

Looks like you can buy across the Target power boards & cords range, get the 2nd 50% off

    https://www.target.com.au/d/buy-1-get-1-5-off-target-branded…

Appears to take half price of the lower priced item of the 2

  • Must be finished. Not adjusting here

Wait. If I add 2 extension cords it works, but if I then add two power boards it doesnt work for everything.
    So two orders it is.

  • Bought 2 extension cords and 2 universal adaptors online for C&C and realised they only take 50% off the two cheapest items. Complained in store asking to refund the difference but they said they can't resolve this for online sales and they showed me the in store Terms and Conditions which were much clearer than the online ones.

So I just returned the two highest price items and bought them again at the click and collect counter, ending up with a net of one full price, 3 half price :) Winning!
