Pretty nice machine that I considered when amazon had it on sale awhile ago, but two issues I see, the screen may be terrible and the RAM can't be upgraded.

    1. Soldered 8G RAM - so no ability to upgrade. Centrecom is not selling the 16G version from the online listings.16G version may not be available in Australia, the Amazon deal was also 8G.

    2. There are two panels choices for this machine, one of which is much better than the other. The good one is 400nit brightness, 1W only power so it extends battery life, and 100 grams lower. The bad one is 250 nit brightness which is dim and may be bad in a bright room and not usable outside.

The Centrecom listing description is generic and doesn't tell you which panel you will receive. Click over to the specs and scroll to the very bottom and you will see this line: "Weight might vary by specifications. For instance, 1-watt panel weighs 1.13 kg. 250 nits panel weighs 1.22 kg."

Really that is bad form of Centrecom to put a product listing that doesn't define what you are getting for your money. It should state if it's the 400W panel or the 250W panel. In the absence of this information I would assume it's the crappy panel that is dim and I personally would not buy such a crappy panel.

    • Agreed about the ram. 8gb can just get by now but in 1 years time it will be very slow and not having the path to upgrade kills will make the machine redundant

      • With most laptop listings I'm struggling to find out if the RAM (or disk drive) can be upgraded.

RAM is super cheap right now, even DDR4 SODIMM. So upgrading the RAM is a must, especially with a powerful multicore processor like the AMD 4000 series.

        • My dell vostro 5490 can be upgraded

    • Thanks this is helpful

  • Does this model comes with 250nits or 400nits display?

  • This is the 400 nit model, scroll down

    • It mentions there is an optional 400 nit display so I'm guessing this is the 250.

If buying definitely call beforehand to confirm panel.

      IPS-level wide-view technology

It's a fake IPS as well

      • Seems to be IPS according to this, https://www.ultrabookreview.com/40887-asus-zenbook-14-um425ia-review/#a4\

Apparently, IPS is an LG trademark which is why they don't use it.

  • Specs says 1.13kg so im pretty sure it id the 400nit version

Weight might vary by specifications. For instance, 1-watt panel weighs 1.13 kg. 250 nits panel weighs 1.22 kg.

    • nm it says both…. bloody centrecom ahahah

  • Pitty. If this was the 16GB 400 nit version then it would be competitive with the Lenovo Ideapad s540 deals.
