Yamaha YST-SW1500 Subwoofer - Now $1199

40

This is a 1000 Watt, 12" Subwoofer which is a legend in it's own lifetime! Unfortunately, it's lifetime is just about up so instead of the normal $2199 price, they're clearing at $1199. This is a big sub but extremely tight and musical as well as being able to rock for movies.

You should also mention that this sub could cure constipation.

    • LoL

      • ;) infact that is true :P

    • Whilst it cures constipation, the double edged sword is that it can induce a headache in the process :-(
(I guess most medicine has it's side effects)

      • Or heart palpitations or worse, heart failure to those wearing a pace maker.

  • I was just speaking with them and the guys at the store offered me Yamaha RX-V871 A/V Receiver at $999. so far best price for these….
shopped around and I didnt get a better price for these around…

  • Is it ok to post deals when they have only 2 in stock?

  • Great sub got to admit - mine is 6.5yrs old and still going strong. was lucky to bring from overseas for $500 - for its age not so cheap IMHO.

  • Isn't 12" rather small for 1000W?
How far would a 12" cone need to move to generate 1000W of bass?
Plain old 12" woofers look like the are ready to jump across the room if I turn the volume any higher.

Or should we not take numbers seriously in the hifi business?

    • This is a SUB, not a standard 12" speaker. And the internal amp and the speaker are matched.

Anyway, from the Yamaha webpage it says it's "1500 watts of output power" but the specs say it's only 1000W "Dynamic Power". All that is bollocks - it's probably only really pushing 200W RMS or so.

But that doesn't mean much, because if the speaker coil is efficient, 200W will make more "noise" than a more powerful amp driving a less efficient speaker.

    • I have seen 800Watt RMS dual coils 12" when I did car audio 9 years ago, but the magnets were huge. 1000W is possible but would be totally impractical, I suspect a bit of marketing BS.

    • There was a time where such things were described with "continuous output" and "music output" (with "music output" being equivalent to "dynamic", and typically about 1.5 times continous output). Nowadays, it's anyone's guess. Perhaps it reaches 1000W (read: 1000 Joule/s) at the very peaks for a tiny fraction of a second. RMS would have provided a better indication here.

  • Curious: they had YST-SW1500s for sale in the mid noughties USA with a RRP of $600 something and readily available for $400 something. Is this a massive upgrade on those YST-SW1500s?

  • How about putting the actual price in the title instead of every value EXCEPT the price..

      Thanks, done!!

  • 1000W indeed! As llama says above, what's the RMS output?

My Sony has two subs in a push-pull configuration. The 2 x 10" 250W RMS subs in that thing shake half the house and is tight. Not to mention HEAVY!

  • I would suggest auditioning before buying (like with all audio equipment). I have an old yamaha sub that was rated at 1000w (i think it was around 250-300 rms) and i find it abit soft and really cant keep up to music well. Have a listen to velodynes if you can, they make super subwoofers.

As for the RRP, take that with a pinch of salt. Yamaha has some pretty high RRP's. I bought an Aventage A2000 for $1400 when the RRP is $2199
