  • Score! Just got 8.
So glad I didn’t buy them on prime day!

  • Damn good price, only if they had it in ES for this price

  • +1

    Philips hue hue hue colour

  • Will these also dim on a standard LED dimmer or only via smart control?

    • +2

      Only smart

  • Does this require that Phillips bridge to control it?

    • +2

      Instant control via Bluetooth
      Control with app or voice
Add Hue Bridge to unlock more

    • +5

No but i can't recommend the bridge enough - so flawless and smooth

  • +1

Wow what a price. Shame ES are not at that price

    • +1

I just use a bayonet to screw converter.

      • Bayonet to screw are known to cause shorts

        • +2

Never known to cause shorts in my 20+ lights. Have been using adapters for probably 10 years.

        • It's a non moving solid metal connection. How would that short?

          • @knasty: I'm no sparky but I imagine there are plenty of ways, poor insulation, design flaws, etc..

Regardless, why would you risk it to save a few dollars ?

        • +1

          https://youtu.be/HZ2EKCUp7-E

It's not shorts. It's electrocution. And it affects the opposite adapter. Not this one.

          • @singingwolf: Just watched the video, correct me if I’m wrong but it seems like simply turning the light off at the switch before making adjustments would prevent any issues?

            Seems like good practice anyway

      • +1

        Yeah good point

    Genuine questions:

Can somebody please tell me why these types globes are so expensive?
What are some instances where you would use it?

    • +3

Its for people into voice control and/or automation. I tried to get into it before but mostly lost interest/appeal, others love it though.

      • +3

Scheduled on/off is useful if you are away during the night time, makes it as if there are people inside the house.
the colour ones can be used if you want to mood lighting
Someone for tech savvy than I can use it with IFTTT to provide weather forecast based on colour, etc.

Basically it's convenience rather than anything else.

        • Cops banging on the door. We know you are in there. We've seen the lights.

    • +1

Good colour control. Don't need to use your phone to control them. Instant on and off. Create moods in every room. Link to your smoke alarm for visible alerts. Sync to music, your home theatre PC, create dynamic mood lighting, set up away schedules.

      • Sync to music would be interesting any pointers to the routines for that.

        • Get third party app like ilightshow

        • +1

Tonnes of apps with music syncing features. Hue essentials, huemelodi, hue manic. Most of these can also create dynamic scenes (lightning, fireplace, northern lights)…

    • For me it's about convenience. Instead of a regular light with an on/off switch on the wall, there are multiple ways you can control and automate these.

Voice control with Alexa/google, control through the app, use them with remote switches or motion sensors, or set them up with timers and routines.

It depends how far you want to get into automation or smart-home setups.

  • Complete smart bulb noob here. What's the best value smart bulb that just has basic dimming, on/off and app control. The cheaper the better.

  • I need ES. What can I do?

    • +1

      Buy the ES

    • get the ES or get this one with a convertor off amazon, they're inexpensive

  • Legendary first post OP. I managed to get two in-store. I should have opted for delivery when I first saw this post because they don't have the option anymore. They must have sold out.

EDIT: Amazon will price match any minute… I just need to wait…

  • It was on my wish list for this Black Friday, snagged a hue starter kit of FB marketplace for $40, and a couple of these today.

    • +1

Wow! What a steal on the starter kit, that's an amazing price, I didn't realise people sold them second hand for such a discount.

Shame I can't use those bulbs since mine are screw on and but Is this hue strip cheap too ?

    • Your link doesn't work

      • works for me, Philips Hue 1m Smart LED Lightstrip Plus $29 not sure if thats cheap, when i search online there are too many different 1m hue strip lights

  • Just picked up 2 from my local bunnings

  • I picked up 2 sets of LIFX Beam kits for $100 each at Bunnings too. They're discontinuing selling LIFX Beam sets though. Didn't want to post a deal as apparently barely any stock in Victoria (almost none imo). Maybe this could help someone if they're lucky enough to find in their area.

    • +2

Nice find. My local also had some Hue on clearance including the Tap Switch for $15 and Calla outdoor pedestal light for $40. Both great deals but extremely limited stock.

      • I think it might be Bunnings-wide. I picked up a $100 Beam kit at my local B. I forgot to look for the tap switch though, dammit.

    • Here's a photo of the price tag if you're lucky enough. https://imgur.com/PN893GZ

  • Any issues with not being bright enough?

  • Is there a light output difference between the colour and white ones?

  • soldout on amazon :(

  • +2

Colour is a gimmick, have a few and beyond initially installing and kids playing with them have never used colour. Just buy white ambiance instead.

    • For a $4 difference between colour and hue with this deal at Bunnings it's certainly worth it for the average person.
But to be fair no Ozbargainer would pay full price on the white ambiance, so it's not really a fair comparison here.

  • You guys are single handedly keeping the batten fitting industry afloat. 😂

  • Can this bulb be stand-alone or it'll need Phillips hub?

    • This Bluetooth bulb can stand alone.

  • back in stock at amazon by the looks of it

  • Amazon is back in stock. Just picked up 5.

  • That'll teach me to go to bed too early! Missed out
    But well spotted OP

Edit - no I didn't miss out! My browser had picked a random Bunnings and was showing no stock, but when I changed the store to my local it listed them as available. Yay, stocked up to replace my remaining regular bulbs.

  • Anyones elses Bunnings Click & Collect order get cancelled by Bunnings?

    • One store rang and said they only had 4/5 that I ordered available and one has been refunded, and the other store rang and said 0/4 that I ordered were available but has not mentioned a cancellation or refund at this point.

No idea why they let the stock sell online if they don't have the actual stock on hand to back it up. I'm guessing they accepted however many click and collect orders they got, but then let people in in the morning and buy some of the stock before they actually picked it for the C&C orders, so they ended up with less stock than they needed. Should have been reserved for online orders.

    • Not cancelled (yet?) but still yet to receive a ready to collect notice…

    • Just had mine cancelled. Store was showing green stock level when I ordered, other stores in ACT showing low stock, only one store showing none.

Of course they then f*&^ about for a day during which time the stock sells out, then shrug and say "yeah, too bad". F'n hopeless, last time I choose Bunnings over Amazon.

      • I must have got lucky then, and got my C&C order in soon enough that it was picked and set aside for collection. Then they were rapidly ozbargained as the word got out.
