    Also works for rabbits :)

Swear I go through more of this for one rabbit than I did for two cats. Wonder if it's just mine or if all rabbits pee more than cats.

      • We moved from frequent rotations to weekly, in a moderately larger contain for x2 rabbits.
Magazines/newspaper, this product, light hay spread and/or hay feeder over tray.

Contains waste & limits mess of hay / self serve at the same time.

      • I only use wood pellet litter now for my 6 buns. Much better than paper based in terms of odour control. It also lasts longer. I have 2 trays, upper sieve tray with a bit of hay spread around (and a hay feeder hanging over it) and a lower tray that contains the pellets to catch the pee.

Also I buy horse bedding wood pellets as they're essentially the same thing as kitter/catmate/oz pet (although oz pet aren't as good now ever since they changed their formula) but cheaper (15kg bags are around $12-14 @ stock feeders).

  • Max QTY 3 for S&S.

This stuff really isn't as good as CatMate. That's the gold standard and worth a little extra.

I've not tried CatMate but sounds like a similar, pellet version of Catlux which has been our favourite litter by far.

We tried one bag of this Breeders Choice product and it did not go down well, we didn't even bother using the whole lot.

    • How is CatMate better?

      • Read my comment above about wood pellet litter. It turns into sawdust after being peed on. Can use as compost too.

I used wood pellet, it was horrible because it didn't absorb anything.

          • @Techie4066: Which brand?

But don't know what you're talking about. They all absorb liquid and turn into saw dust.

            • @CVonC: Not sure, it was just very messy.

              • @Techie4066: Messy because it turned into saw dust?

                • @CVonC: Yeah, the dust goes everywhere and is hard to scrape out.

                  • @Techie4066: Do you put enough on and have a two tray system? Watch this for proper usage. You can use a tray with high sides and a sieve tray for $15 at Kmart too.

And the fact that you just confirmed it turns into saw dust just proves it does actually absorb.

                    • @CVonC: I trialled the wood pellet and standard litter tray the breeder provided. Didn't go well. Thanks anyway.

                    • @CVonC: Forgot to mention that pee went through to the tray. Didn't work for me.

                      • @Techie4066: That's how it works lol. You need pellets on the bottom tray as well as the top.

  • works for chihuahuas too

  • goog price.

  • Is stuff like this worth it over the Kmart crystal litter I'm currently using?

    • +2

We tried this and it was very messy and did not control the stink either. Crystals are much better IMHO.

      • +3

Yes, but there are some concerns whether the dust from the crushed silica is harmful https://kapush.org/cat-litter/silica-gel-cat-litter-problems…
When I used to pour the crystals into the tray there was enough of a dust cloud that I used to feel weird breathing it in.

Also the recycled paper is much more environmentally friendly, if that's a factor for the buyer.

This is good stuff, you just can’t and shouldn’t be lazy, fill up your litter box a decent amount, every time you get up to walk around have a look at the box and if it looks like it’s been shuffled around then go and scoop out the crap, place it into a brown lunch bag that you get from Coles/Woolies then throw it in the bin, maybe give it a spray with cat litter spray if you like.

Once a week when the litter box is running out, empty the box contents into plastic bag and clean out the litter tray in laundry sink with dishwasher detergent, whipe dry and refill fresh from the Breeders choice bag.

Humans don’t like our toilet bowls not flushed, I doubt cats enjoy a litter box that hasn’t been cleaned so don’t be lazy.

The crystals look like shit, I’ve seen it once in use at another household it was just full of urine.
