Be wary that you may have issues getting the August Connect to work depending on your wifi setup. Either mine was faulty or wasn't very compatible with my router. Returning it to Amazon US took months as well. Possibly better off getting Schlage Sense or Encode like I did, much more reliable (and you can open them from the outside without fiddling for your phone), albeit more expensive and not as clean looking…
    Really wanted to like August…

Good to know, reading the Q&A's there were some leading answers suggesting it was fine for AU.

"Certified Z-Wave Plus home product. Works with Z-Wave, the leading wireless technology for security and home control products"

BEWARE: Australia uses a different frequency for Z-Wave than the US so this most likely won't work here.

On that note, I think it's also not legal to use the device even if it's not connected as it would still broadcast the frequency which could interfere with mobile devices as the zwave frequency used in the USA is reserved for telco here in Aus.

      • Yep, I found out that it's illegal after buying 3 different locks lol.

    • Agreed - likely won't work and definitely not legal to use international Z-Wave products here - and not legal to use any RF/wireless products not certified for use in Australia.

Because different countries have different frequency ranges and power limitations allocated to various uses, using non-certified products s can mess up mobile networks, private radio networks (emergency services) and even television and other transmissions.

All RF equipment (including but not limited to WiFi, Zigbee, ZWave etc.) must have the Australian "Regulatory Compliance Mark" (or the older A-Tick or C-Tick) on it, for its use to be legal here.

  • August gets okay reviews in the US, it is a US first product though.

  • Old generation

  • Thanks everyone. It seems that the August one is not the answer. Is there anything similar that's available in Australia? The Schlage ones all need to go on both sides of the door, but the space I have is so small on the outer side that I can only fit something on the inner side, like the August. Any ideas?
