Virgin Broadband Mobile Total Cost $368 -12 Mths Contract - 10GB/Month - Free USB or Wi-Fi Modem

50

i found this is the cheapest on the market for people that after internet broadband.
as currently virgin give $100 credit for applying online before 7 dec 2011 - 12 months contract and free usb or wifi modem.

the best value for money is $39 plan entitle for 10 GB / month for 12 month contract
so total cost would be $468-100 = $368
$368 / 12 = $30.67 / month real cost after bonus credit apply to your account
and if you calculate per GB cost
$30.67/10= $3.67 / GB which is the cheapest from other player on the market and remember virgin usage is per KB not per MB like other competitor.

and please bear in mind that virgin also include upload as your data allowance.

  • OUCH!

The PPP of the modem is a bit steep when compared to their own prepaid modem prices:

Not a problem if you don't need to exit early, but an extra kick in the pants if you do.

Are you sure it's cheaper per GB? For the last 2 years I've lived on Mobile Internet with both Virgin (12 months from Dec '09 to Dec '10) and Vodafone (12 months from Dec '10 to Dec '11). Say what you want about Vodafone, but I'm still using them as my speed in a Melbourne suburb is between 80KB/s and up to ~500-600KB/s on good days where-as Virgin was between 20KB/s and 100KB/s (and frequently would disconnect / not connect).

Using your formulae: Vodafone offer 12GB for $39 a month, 3 months half price. $468 - $58.50 = $409.50 / 12 = $34.125 / 12 (which is higher) = $2.84 per GB (which is lower). Same deal, usage in KB - $0.02 per MB over (not slow-down with option to top-up, is it still $5 for 500MB with Virgin?).

    • so if you exceed 1GB then it will cost you $20. i know 2 cent / MB is cheap, but when you exceed your download, it will hurt your pocket :)

" If monthly data allowance exceeded: $0.02 per MB applies. 1 month data expiry. Included data only for use in Australia on Vodafone's network. Unlocking fee applies."

I'm using it now… It's as slow and old 3 legged dog… Can't wait for my contract to finish to switch…

    • As is my 3G services on my iphone with Virgin :(

  • WARNING!!!!! Virgin Mobile Broadband cap their speed at 512Kps…which is really slow…

    • Kbps*

Thats still 64kBps which isn't that bad especially for mobile networks that have to reach people that don't live overly close to a city.

    • i went to gold coast last year and using virgin prepaid for 1 week, i got speed around 1.5- 3Mbps, no joke. i was stay at sea world nara resort. it is fluctuate but i still got the speed no less than 1.5Mbps. i guess may be related with your modem as well, i got my modem when i bought another prepaid broadband in singapore.

It depends where you live to what speed you get.
I been with them for 12 months and I get speed better then hel$tra or vodafail.
Faster than 512Kps that kevin22 mentioned.
Like Telstra they do shape after going over your limit unlike vodafail which just keep charging like a wounded bull or have they changed ?

    • correct, it is depend on the location. its better you check at optus website for their coverage which area that cover 3g and which area only got 2g then you can make up your mind.

  • Some situations this would be a good deal

    • Yeah, in the afterlife…

  • At least this one is capped so no bill shock.

Woolworths prepaid is cheaper $12.60/5 = $2.52/GB . Add a bit for the modem if needed (I suggest a $99 android phone), but prepaid has the big advantage that you get to use a lot more of your data. The 10GB expires monthly, and top-ups cost much more.

Plus the woolies plan includes lots of voice, if that helps. And no 12 month commit - no, wait, if you want to get the discount rate you need to buy a years worth of vouchers before 31/12.

    • ops I didn't read it properly.

    • how do u get $12.6? i have check woolworths mobile website, the current offer only 50% off for recharge, so for $29, you only pay $14.5, to get this half price, you also need to purchase $2 sim card as bundle, so you can't just purchase the recharge only.

      • See that thread, but I'll save you the trouble:

        1/2 price for the $2 SIM and $29 recharge = $15.50
Less $2.90 (10% of recharge) with an Everyday Rewards Card

Lots of people have obtained this price, including me.

        • and if i purchase using gift card that i purchase on the last amex promotion (20% rebate) meaning 12.6 *0.8 = 10.08 wow

          365 / 45 = 8
          8*10.08 = 80.64 / year that really cheap

  • Anyone know if this will work well in Southbank, Melbourne? Just beside crown really..
