Better sound quality but not as comfortable as QC 35 II

    • +4

Thanks, I don't think these are worth the update even the QC 35i

    • -1

agree - the QC35-II's can last long haul international flights comfortably

    • +2

      Micro usb is tragic though

      • Wish they release usb c version soon QC35iii

  • +3

I bought these on Prime Day for just under $400, nice deal! Never seen them this low apart from maybe a Unidays promo?

  • +7

How does this compare to Sony XM4?

    • +70

I've had both and here are my observations,

ANC is comparable but the Sony's have a slight edge in certain situations. Sound signatures are different and most people might prefer the Sony sound. The mics on the Bose are excellent and great for calls. Sony mics are trash in comparison. Bose looks sleeker and feels higher quality. Sony's are understated and feels bulkier in comparison but design is subjective. I found with the Sony's my ears would touch the ear cups but didn't have that issue with Bose. Also the Sony's fold for storage and the Bose doesn't.

Ultimately both are great and it really comes down to personal preference!

Awesome review fireforce! Signed in just to say thanks

        • I need good quality call audio and the QC35s lasted me several years with ear cup replacement so I've pulled the trigger at this price.

          • @MrMaxwell: I was in the same situation. You won’t regret!
I’ve actually found these to be more comfortable than the QC35s.

      • +2

Signed in just to say thanks

    • I had XM3's and they broke after a month, Sony was extremely difficult to deal with promised myself to never buy Sony. I'd say the XM4's are slightly superior but the build quality is low. It's all plastic and loosely held together by clasps.

    • Buy them both and tell us

  • +1

    Great find OP.
How are Amazon with returns? I've heard some people have had issues with these headphones, and I haven't had any experience returning to Amazon

    • +3

Pretty painless. You request a return, they give you a label to print out, you post it. I think they even have extended returns right now till Feb 2021.

      • Can you return for a change of mind or does the product have to be faulty?

        • You can return for change of mind but should not open the product in that reasoning. But you can always state some other problem after opening May be fit, etc. Return is seamless.

          • @JustNotGod: I returned a $300 Phillips shaver because it just didn't shave well (in my opinion). Boxed it up, shipped it off for free to the US, got refunded $300. Like a month later realised I still have the charger, leather case and cleaning stuff…

            • @TogTogTogTog: With their policies no wonder Prime loses them so much money.

              • @ATangk: Amazon AU is still operating at a loss, 3 years after its launch

For the 2019 year post-tax, Amazon Australia said it posted a loss of $4.7 million and paid $2.5 million in income tax for the year.

                • @skido: Thats $2.5m in taxes they didn't have to pay, but still $2.5m more than many large companies. But pretty sure theyre in it to take market share rather than profit - at least for now.

              • @ATangk: Yes, it must be hard for them to recoup the loss and resell used items when idiots don't return all of the parts.

    • Amazon extended return until Jan 31, 2021

    • I have returned two items in the last two months. On both cases, the product did not attend the purpose and I found it after using for two weeks. Amazon has an option to refund as a balance into your account, so no need to print labels or anything, just box it up and take to one of their locations. The balance was available in my account on the same day, which I found pretty good. Quite easy and painless.

If you can get Jbhifi to price match this + get 10% off TCN gift cards + 10% off ZIP on Saturday then it will cost under $300 (However, doubt this will last until Saturday, JBHIFI typically do not price match Amazon and those TCN gift cards may not last until Saturday).

However, If you already bought the cards from Big W last week on Saturday then worth considering.

    • +2

I’ve worked at JB and I can suggest being hella nice to the counter staff about the deal and hopefully they let you price match this LOL the only issue would be if they had someone from the audio department be a d*ck about it and tell you no.

    • Bought a Samsung tab s6 lite 2 weeks ago at JB. Price matched to Amazon no issues.

      • Your local jbhifi is good then because most will not price match Amazon, got to go to a few stores to get this price match

        • What's the reason that they can't price match Amazon?

JB HiFi in Carousel ,WA in case others want to try price match.

  • Had picked up the XM4s for 299 from eBay during Black Friday, now pulled the trigger on these as this the lowest they've been according to camelcamelcamel. I'd say at these prices they seem like VFM.

These headphones have ongoing firmware issues. I and other ozbargainers have returned and refunded. Buyer beware.

Missus has a pair and has had no issues thus far

        ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

      • Can you post a hands-on review please?

        • Lol not on here I can't..

I'm not sure why some do and some don't have issues, but AFAIK the issues do seem to stem from multiple Bluetooth connections.

    • I don't have the stutter issue but I lost the AR.. It's a very nice feature to have I enjoyed walking with it and I can hear the birds and the occasional car passing by.
Bose removed the feature in the latest update.
      https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&c…

It was one of the Main feature I chose Bose over Sony XM3 (that time).

The latest firmware update gave me basic equalizer control but it doesn't make up for what I lost.

Very disappointed with that but the sound is still good still and I've had no issues with it so far.. touchwood.

    • +1

Mine are garbage. Constant issues with loud buzzing sounds and dropping then reconnecting I got them in the US before I came home. I can't even be bothered pushing locally for warranty they are so bad. I bought another pair of QC35iis for $299 off an OzB link .. so happy I did

    • I have had a pair for a few months now since they last went on sale and I've had no problems at all with them. For this price they are a fantastic set of headphones

  • Finally! Didn't think these would ever drop in price..
I'm in the same boat as peeppeep so will need to flog the xm4

  • +1

Amazing price for these, if you can afford them get them, this price is a no brainer.

  • I've been extremely unimpressed with the quality of my QC 35ii. The pairing switch pretty quickly broke. Seems to be a common issue. Ear pads have gone to shit pretty quickly too. Just not what I would expect at this price point. I had firmware issues for a while but I think that was resolved, but it was out of commission for about a month

  • +2

The debacle with these headphones was horrid with their multi pairing (connecting to more than one device simultaneously) which is a big selling point and so crucial for many working from home now and needing to connect to computer for meeting and your phone for taking calls. After sales service is horrid and I’d go as far as to say embarrassing. These were the last Bose product I will purchase. Incredibly disappointing.

Check the forum post bellow, hundreds of people experiencing the same thing and Bose did and has done nothing.

    • So maybe a further price drop?
If you don't need, better to wait?
Still have heaps of other headphones…

    • Definitely an issue, did not know about this.. bose need to do better..
Personally doesnt affect me as I don't multi pair and $100 off was good enough to tempt me..

      • If the multi point isn’t a feature you will use/need these are exceptional, they look and sound beautiful. You will be very happy with them I’m sure.

  • +2

Will buy next year at half price

I stopped the relentless upgrades for little improvements

  • -1

There is talk that Apple will release their new over ear headphones tomorrow which may explain this price drop. Or, most likely that is not going to happen and they are completely unrelated…

  • Worth considering getting Skin on it.

  • Just gone OOS?

    • looks like it

    • +1

Only black is OOS, silver and soapstone still available.

  • +3

Is heart warming to see so many people have money to burn. Economy is alive!

    • It will be better if the money stays in Australia rather than flowing to overseas, to boost Australia economy.

      • Also good to see I'm being taken seriously. Wouldn't pay these more than a 100 bucks.

  • +1

Sold mine too many connection issues.

  • +2

Still using my original QC35. Too many issues with both xm4 or the 7000 to consider upgrading yet, still waiting for the firmware to mature and the price to be under $300

    • +1

If the experience of the QC35s is anything to go by, firmware updates tend to make these worse

  • +2

wish they release QC35 with USB-C

  • is there any offer regarding using the app for the first time for $10 off

  • Have initiated a return for the pair i bought 2 weeks ago on prime and ordered again. Diff of almost $120

    • So you bought a pair, used for 2 weeks and are now returning?

      • Yep. Called them up just to be sure they know i have used it. They said no probs.

    • what reason did u say for return?

      • If you say 'better price available' it only costs $7 to return via AusPost. Have done this myself a few times.

      • Yep - Just selected Better price avail and put the link.

  • Must resist!!

  • Back to $479

Hi all, just a warning to the others who just purchased these in this deal.

I just received mine last night from Amazon. The headphones arrived with a completely flat battery. Not a good first sign. But they are also faulty.

There is a very low frequency, constant, quiet yet very annoying, rumble type sound from the right ear. I have tried everything and followed the Bose troubleshooting guides including: resetting, updating the firmware, and many other options. I have swapped ears, rooms, etc, and there is definitely something wrong with these.

I prefer not to get a refund from Amazon, so I called Bose support this morning and they confirmed according to the serial number these headphones:
    - were manufactured 8 months ago - 27 July 2019, and
    - the warranty ended on 27 Oct 2020

They said that as I had just received them, they would extend the warranty by 12 months (but they are brand new I said), and I could send it back to Bose in NSW and then once they received them and checked them they would send me a replacement and it would take 4-6 weeks from that moment on. I would not get them until Feb or March next year!

They offered an alternative to get a replacement quicker. Bose would give me a full refund once I show them the proof of purchase from Amazon, then they would sell me a replacement for $479 (20% off their price), "but not to worry sir, we will cover all shipping costs for you."

No option really except to return to Amazon for a full refund.

    Not happy!

    • +1

That should have read, "were manufactured 18 months ago - 27 July 2019"

  • Did anyone manage to take a screenshot of this price?
