Bought it for $35 on Black Friday :(

    • Worst, prime day $48 :(

      • +2

        Return it.

    • +1

Fellow $35 chump signing in! Who'd have thought $6 less so fast. Why'd JB save this price for now!

    • +1

I knew $35 was too rich. This is still too rich, needs to be $19.

    • +1

Me too! But I'm six dollars ahead than these new buyers into the game!

Really enjoying it. I just don't get the hate that some showed for it.

$29 seems too cheap for such a great experience - pass up on this offer, and find somewhere selling it for more $.

    • Same but used 15% off gift cards and paid 29.75šŸ˜‚

  • Now staring Elliot Page.

    • -1

      What a waste

  • +12

    Wow….what a price! Great game.

    • +10

Wish I could praise the ending but apparently "sPoiLeRs". Pretty wacky that talking about an ending of a game is consider spoilers.

  • +20

I literally just finished this game. Absolutely stunning! Not sure why people hated it in comparison to the first

      • +18

People are dumb, the game was a masterpiece.

Great argument - ā€œanyone that doesnā€™t think this game is a masterpiece is dumbā€. Sums up a lot of peopleā€™s attitudes towards the game.

Thereā€™s some ridiculous criticism levelled towards this game, and thereā€™s some very valid criticism too. But the valid criticism immediately gets buried by people unwilling to accept the fact that this game is flawed. Itā€™s amazing what a huge production budget and polish can do.

        • +1

But this is my point. How is it flawed??

          • +4

            @bemybubble:

But this is my point. How is it flawed??

            How is it perfect?

            • +2

@aja12: Storyline was amazing. Without spoiling it for others it demonstrates 2 different POVā€™s and that itā€™s not a typical hero and villain type of game.

Just when I thought I had finished the game not once, but twice, it still continued the story and flowed very well IMO.

Storyline aside I loved the game play. Effects were stunning and lifelike. Really pushed the boundaries.

All in all I could play the game on its own without the story. Or I could YouTube the story scenes without the gameplay. Either way I would be satisfied. This to me paints the perfect game.

              Now why is it flawed?

              • +8

                @bemybubble: Story wise.

Huge pacing issues, completely disjointed at times, character choices that ignore logic and previous character development, some really cheesy dialogue (Iā€™m specifically referring to a lot of the dialogue that occurs while travelling from point A to point B), huge plots holes that go unexplained.

                Gameplay wise.

Very little expansion on the first game, which despite being one of my all time favourite games, didnā€™t have particularly strong gameplay to begin with. AI was laughable at times, really takes away from the immersion.

Canā€™t fault visuals or sound, absolutely top notch. Incredibly polished.

                • +2

@aja12: Completely agree that the gameplay added very little compared to the first, any examples of the pacing issues, characters ignoring logic, plot holes?

                  • +4

@theknight27: Thereā€™s a lot of in depth material covering those points online and on YouTube, addressed in a much more articulate manner than Iā€™m capable of.

Itā€™s impossible to discuss my points without listing story spoilers. And considering this is a post for the game, Iā€™m assuming a lot of people interested in buying the game will be here reading, I donā€™t think this is the place to discuss points in depth.

          • +13

@2 Dollars: :eyeroll: why is there such a significant difference between expert reviews and general public reviews of Star Wars: The Last Jedi?
Answer: because TLJ was objectively terrible, but the only people who were privileged enough to get paid to say their opinions on it were leftist woke establishment bootlickers.

          • @2 Dollars:

Some of the criticism isn't valid though,

            Thatā€™s exactly what I said?

          • +1

@2 Dollars: So not all the criticism was dumb, then it seems to me a dumb thing to say that people are dumb if they didn't think the game was good

          • +2

            @2 Dollars:

To me it indicates that the general public potentially lacked some of the maturity needed for the narrative choices.

My thoughts exactly. To me it didnā€™t reek of a hidden agenda. Was a real tear jerker IMO

      • +2

Maybe you are dumb for thinking people are dumb.
I don't give a damn about the first or second one, so my opinion is neutral.

    • They killed Nathan Drake.

      • I'm team Sully

        • RIP Sully too.

          I am for Chloe, 4ever.

    • +4

I tried to avoid all spoilers but one media outlet had a spoiler on their main page which I couldn't avoid but see so it gave me a wrong impression before I played the game. It made me think a certain thing was going to happen all the way through the game which didn't end up happening. Kinda soured my experience a bit. So yea, fark those a55holes who didn't even play the game and were throwing their toys out of the pram.

      Absolutely great game.

      • Can you say or DM me what the fake spoiler was?

    • +8

Yeah same finished it a few days ago. What a game!

    • +3

I absolutely loved it. I'd pretty much put it on par with the first which I consider my favourite game of all time. People can hate whatever they want I guess. It's all entirely subjective after all and there's no actual "fact" of how good a game/movie/whatever is.

    • +3

The graphics is stunning, but the story and pacing is quite unbalanced. The LGBTQ parts are done quite well, which makes you wonder why the core story can't be smoother. The main complaint for most people isn't the story cannot go that way, it is more the way characters you know from part 1 no longer behave in a way you expect them to behave. Even the characters introduced in part 2, at times do not appear to behave in a consistent manner.

Far too many times, those odd behaviours are due to the game needs them, rather than being organic and natural. Those things cause people to tune out of the story. For other developers, that's fine, but for Naughty Dog, that's very unusual, considered how well LTOU1 was written. The ending is also a problem for some people. The logic is just odd. Basically, the protagonist and the antagonist keep on doing "I am going to kill you", and then "I'll spare you" at key moments of the game. In fact, towards the end, flip flop twice.

The graphics, animation are top notch. So good that many people would try to complete the game at least once.

    • +2

A lot of people were children when the first game came out and were too young to realize how shallow it was.
Now they're old enough to see it for what it is when the protagonist for the last game gets Negan'd.
But instead of coming to terms with the fact their tastes changed they're blaming the development team, the team that made both of the games.

Basically the problem isn't that TLoU2 was bad or that it's story was controvercial.
It was that people put TLoU1 on a pedestal at all in the first place.

  • +6

Great price for a great game. An absolutely depressing game like, 90% of the time. But still a great game.

    • +1

Dour, thoughtful, poorly paced, beautiful, repetitive, provocative.

I had such mixed feelings about the game. I'm not sure I'm even glad it even exists, as I hate where it has taken the franchise. I feel like they've transitioned from bleak into hopeless.

I respect the game because it makes you feel something. However, with some nuance to the writing and pacing, it could have made you feel something more complex than empty, frustrated, and emotionally drained. And unlike something like "The Road" - I think the developers thought they were producing something more complex.

Anyway, it's not awful but it's certainly not flawless. Worth picking up at this price, but I definitely thought it regressed in the areas I loved most about the first.

  • +1

Amazing game at this price plays awesome with a PS Pro šŸ‘

  • Oh no spent $35 on Black Friday :((

  • +7

Personally hated it but if I had bought it for $29, I would have been okay.

    • +8

Also look at the critic reviews, it's good to be informed! One of the very best games of the generation IMO

      • +2
        • +1

Kinda surprised to see Tsushima that high. Thought it was competent but forgettable.

Not really an amazing year for gaming imo.

          • +1

@Merlict: Not really an amazing year for anything really.

I'm playing GoT on PS5 now and it's really pretty but it's just a 'good' open world game, where I thought TLoU part 2 was great at what it did.

            • @McFodder: I burnt out on GoT after the first act, it's insanely repetitive. It doesn't come close to TLoU2 this year.

              • +1

@2 Dollars: You must not liked Sleeping Dog too then.

            • @McFodder: I know it's cool to shit on Ubisoft but I enjoyed Ass Creed Origins more that GoT

              • @Merlict: I haven't actually played an AC since the PS3, nearly grabbed Odyssey cheap in BF sales but figured GoT would scratch the same itch!

        • +2

You guys are tripping Ghost of Tsushima shits all over The Last of Us 2. Not only was GoT it easily the best game of 2020 (*so far… Cyberpunk 2077 may be better… I guess we'll find out on Thursday…) but it was also better than anything released in 2019 as well.

    • +3

The game is great. Most of the negative reviews are from cellar dwelling teenage virtue signallers who haven't even played the game.

      • How are they virtue signalling? Just curious.

    • +3

I think those reviews say more about salty incel gamers than TLOU2.

      • -1

        Not incel just altright neckbeards

  • 100% they're releasing a remastered version on ps5 like they did with spiderman… wasnt worth

    • Like the TLOU on ps3, was remastered to ps4?

      • In that case it was but the Spider-Man was locked behind Miles Morales. In the PS3 to PS4 case it didnt have BW but the PS5 does so all it needs is a patch. Instead its better to charge for it because money.

  • Will this work upscaled on ps5? Worth it?

    • +1

I'd wait for the remaster tbh, Ray Tracing will look superb

    • +1

No PS5 upgrades yet but ran well and looked great on PS4 Pro so will do the same there.

  • Wow, let me think about it for one night and get 5%off tomorrow.

  • +4

I played through the remastered version of the first one before starting this. The first remains brilliant, especially the story. I don't know if I was just tired of the game play (which is pretty similar across 1 and 2) or what though because I played less than ten hours of the second one and it's been gathering dust since.
Everything is done really well it just…feels a bit redundant I guess?

    • +7

The first one had a very absorbing story. The second didn't for many people. Though on OzB, if you post your negative opinion of the game, you get labelled as 'incel' or 'teenager'.

      • +1

you get labelled as 'incel' or 'teenager'

I luv to be called teenager. Makes me feel young again. Th..thanks, guys?

      • It's funny, because I don't think the story is bad - to the contrary, most of what I've seen so far works well enough for me (even though it's really bleak mostly). But…it just didn't grip me, the way the first one did. I'll probably bring it out and finish it off one day.
But hey, for $29 it's a bargain for sure.

      • +2

Every community leans one way or the other for this game. OzB apprears to lean towards the masterpiece-of-all-time camp. To be fair you won't find many (if any) that can have a civil discussion about this game, which is a shame. I personally disliked the story decisions, but my workmate was a huge fan - yet we didn't end up slinging mud at each other.

        • +1

Are we allowed to call 'em incel teenagers too?

          :P

  • I liked the first one, looking to bite for or maybe wait for ps5 version when itā€™s at this oroce

  • Get it for $27.55 with 5% off

  • You got to be kidding me, just picked up a copy at gumtree yesterday for $37………………

  • Dumb question: Reckon a remastered edition come out of part 2?

    • +1

      Hopefully not.

Rather, I like to see TLOU1 remastered with better gfx. Also MP mode plz!

        • Yeh, on PS4 but (I still got my PS3 & Remastered PS4 copies).

Imagine in PS5 quality in 4K 60fps, pheeew. Insta buy!

    • Very likely imo.

I'd much rather a free patch for 60fps / upscaling etc but they'd love to make you pay again

    • Hopefully just a free patch. The game is visually amazing on PS4 Pro but I reckon it could definitely benefit from raytracing and 60fps would be super swell.

Hoping for a Nathan Drake collection patch before replaying those games too. Might just be dreaming…

      • Same I hope its just a free patch too but 100% it wont be. Spider-Man: Remastered was literally just 60fps and raytracing as it was already 4k30fps. It got locked behind a paywall too soo…

  • On Boxing day sale will drop down to $19.

  • Sold my copy for $40 last month

    • Traded mine with EB games. Lucky, or else I would get lower offer.

Seems TLOU2 isn't selling well (right after the first 2 months).

  • +5

Give it another month and it'll be PlayStation Hit @ $19.

    • That would be great for many people who haven't played it

  • Ahh damn I got it off Amazon for $35 and won't arrived until the December 15th. I guess I'll buy this and return the Amazon one. Took too long!!

  • +2

    Dangggg good price.

Canā€™t wait for cyberpunk to go this price. So hard to fit in a solid 10 hour session like the old days once entered into parenthood

    • +1

You are not alone my friend. Used to sleep at odd hours to finish a game. Now can't even play for an hour with the kids crying. Lol

On the other at this price, it's auto buy.

  • Amazon price matched. Make sure to select Amazon AU as a seller.

  • +1

Oh look now we have the ā€œthe game is not selling wellā€ because there is a sale after 6 months, but then Age of Calamity is on sale after 2-3 weeks and ā€œitā€™s fantasticā€

    LOOOOOL!!

  • Definitely worth playing even if I thought overall the game had some major flaws.
Posting this video as I thought this was a terrific essay on the game.

    https://youtu.be/MvTFF-E5wkw

Worth a watch for those who completed it. Donā€™t be put off by the run time, the first 30 minutes is the nuts and bolts - then the last 60 mins or so they go about addressing said storytelling problems.

  • good price, grabbed one from amazon instead

  • +3

What's a legit reason Sony has already given this game a massive price drop in only less than 6 months after release?

    • Who knows? The price of Spider Man PS4 dropped like a rock after launch too

    • Anyone who desperately wanted this game has already bought it, so now they drop the price and grab some sales from the patient/bargain-hunting/on-the-fence customers. Plus the game is competing against a new console generation etc. for our dollars, during a recession, so they probably need to price it accordingly.

  • Thanks picked it up for $27.55. Hope they release a PS5 Patch

    • Heh.. given how badly received this game was, I'm sure all support has vanished for the game and no one works in that office anymore :)

  • +2

    Q. How do you know if someone didn't like The Last Of Us, Part II?
    A. Don't worry, they'll let you know.

    • +3

      Q. How do you know if someone like The Last Of Us, Part II?
      A. Don't worry you can spot em, they'll defend the game till death.

    • +1

Lol, as someone who hasn't played it yet, but come across a lot of comments, I'd say you're spot on.

The people who don't like the game seems to really want other people to know (apropos of nothing), while the people neutral or pro- the game tends to try to pull the "haters" back, usually unsuccessfully. Clearly a very divisive game, which level of quality you should decide for yourself.

  • Can't wait to play on my PS5. Score.
