Weather Station That Can Integrate with Google Home

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction of a weather station that integrates with google home. It doesn't have to play out of the box directly with google home it can be a bespoke roundabout way, however I don't want to setup further hardware to get it working. I basically want to run a google home routine when say temp reaches X degrees. I was hoping to get one with an outside unit as well as indoor.

From what I have found you can get a Netatmo which is plug and play but very $$$. So I was hoping someone had an Ozb solution to this.

The usual Chinese suspects (Xioami etc) have temperature sensors that can activate functions, and I think all of them can be used with Google home with a bit of fiddling.
I wouldn’t search for weather station, try smart home temperature sensor.

    • I had a few Xiaomi items linked to the Xiaomi Home app that's linked to Alexa. Over the last year or so, my Xiaomi devices decided to stop appearing on the Xiaomi app about 1/2 to 3/4 of the time. The app would show that I had no devices linked to my account. Tried resetting, different android devices and nothing worked. So just two weeks ago, I binned the Xiaomi items that needed linking.

      • Oof just tried to link the Xiaomi smart home kit and it said affiliate link, there goes my last paragraph of typing. Anyway yeah I have that kit without the temp sensor (must be an old version). Last year they started making you do a forced firmware update to connect stuff up again and then put geo restrictions on stuff. Some people had a hacky workaround but it got a bit much for me. That and sometimes it just refused to connect you would press the button to turn on the smart power switch and it just wouldn't work until you sat there pressing the button on your phone for 5m, kinda defeats the purpose if it doesn't work 1st go haha.

I guess I will have another look into them though and see if it is any better than when I last dipped out.

      • Don't bin that stuff!

Get home assistant and a zigbee dongle and you can rid yourself of the Xiaomi Home app forever.

        • errr.. too late!

I'm looking at Ubiquiti cameras and things now to replace them and possibly thermostats to connect the aircon to.

        • Did you have any walkthrough or links for this? I would love to get rid of the Xiaomi app !

          • @knobbs: Google homeassistant & zigbee2mqtt

  • You don't trust the google home weather?
What you trying to achieve ? automation?

Yeah google weather is not specific enough for me. The baby monitor temp sensor can show a difference of 5c compared to what Google says it should be.

I have other automated IR controls setup in Google home already via a Broadlink RM3 and want to do stuff with that plus more based on temp, possibly difference in temp between inside/outside.

What you try to measure, outside or inside of your house?
If you want automation, try use something like home assistant, I only use google as per voice commands.

        • I would just like a more accurate reading of the weather from my specific location to perform the tasks via Google home.

          • @knobbs: Well I have tried it but it's not worth the hassle other than looking the actual temperature outside for personal gain. Now on most my outside automation based on google weather, it's not perfect but it's works for things like water the garden based on rain prediction or to turn on the AC based on outside temp.

  • Not sure if it helps but some smart switches can do actions based on weather conditions. The Aldi Medion switches had scenes based on temperature, humidity and weather conditions. I think they use data from nearest city. I have one for a fan that turns on above 30o and off at below 25o or 7pm
