Qantas: Earn 1 Point Per $1 on Premium Trains (Ghan, Indian Pacific), or Spend Qantas Points to Buy Tickets @ Qantas

60

A bit different!

"Qantas Frequent Flyers can now earn and use points on premium train trips around Australia including The Ghan, Indian Pacific and the Great Southern – marking the first time Classic Reward Seats have been offered on the ground.

From today, members can use points to book Classic Rail Reward seats or earn 1 point per $1 spent on Journey Beyond Rail Expeditions journeys."

This is quite the deal if you have a bunch of points and can't/won't fly, but if you're looking for a grand adventure by rail instead of an overseas flight, this is another way to earn those Qantas points.

Rail fares starting from 100,000 Qantas Points, if paying solely in points.

  • Can anyone see an option to points + pay? Ghan Gold twin in winter is 300k pp. Tough ask when NT Govt is still offering subsidies that may very well continue past March.

  • Sucks how expensive these trains became. Wish they would added the European style 2 bunks to a room cabin. Always wanted to do Sydney-Perth, but it's cheaper to fly to Europe

    • Watched the journey on SBS during the slow TV season. It was super boring 🥱

      • Guess that's a good point. Just old people everywhere. Planning Trans–Siberian once COVID is done, that seems lively with the locals. Maybe do Indian-Pacific when I'm old and rich. Vladivostok —> Moscow US$181 2nd class and 162hrs, now that's a decent price. Prob spend more on Vodka than the ticket

        • +1

have done many parts of the trans-Siberian. Go for 'kupe' class (4 beds in a cabin) or for more hilarity and experience, 'platzcart' - an entire carriage of 54 beds. After say, a 52 hour journey, you'll have had vodka, fun and eaten different foods and made new friends, even if you don't speak each other's language :)

          • @beatthatflight: Thanks for the advice. I will keep it in mind. I speak enough Russian to get by. Compartment class would be a good idea.

  • Bucket list = Venice to London on the Orient Express, but I loved Murder on the Orient Express.

Maybe when I’m rich/old/saved enough because of Ozbargain (lol).

A delicious fiction. How often do people buy because something is a deal and not because a deal coincides with something they wanted to buy anyway? :)
