    • Cool so you can buy Myer gift cards on a Myer Visa, I will have to check that out on the weekend!

This is what I did today to buy a Macbook Air:
          1. Call David Jones and get the $100 off Macbook Air
          2. Go to Myers and Price Match it with an educational discount
          3. Buy $1500 in gift cards, for a free $150 to use instantly
          4. Use your Myers card on that transaction and get $60 of gift cards free
          5. Buy the Macbook Air with the gift card using the Myers card AGAIN to claim another $60 in gift cards
          6. Save $370+ (additional discount for edu)
          7. Fly out of country (if your travelling) and get GST off!
          7. Save $530+ off RRP! Winning.
Hope this is useful for anyone buying a Mac
          Gotta love ozbargain!!!!

        • double-post - delete mod

  • Got this same time last year, but it was able to be purchased in $100 cards.

    Thanks OP

  • Great deal. Last year they were purchasable in $100 blocks but I guess Myer wants to lock in more cash for this period.

Whatever the case, go and get $500 or $1000 worth between you and your mates and have fun during sale times.

IMHO it is worth getting if you are a regular shopper.

    Regards
    Daniel

"and cannot be used to purchase another Gift Card"

Wouldn't that be the mother of all loopholes? :)

It's funny because your picture is of Albert Einstein?

if it was true, we'd be in the paper the next day.

headline: ozbargain brings down major department store

    • can you use coles myer gift cards to buy myer gift cards and get the 10% back?

      • I was wondering the same thing…

      • Not allowed to buy gift cards with gifts cards in any form.

  • Does Myer ever have 10% off Apple?

    • Never say never

    • they usually have something like $100 off Apple Laptops

    • +2

but they will pricematch … and with DSE doing 10% off Mac once a month now … its win-win !
bought these gift-cards last year, used to buy MBA - pricematched to 10% off = 20% off (almost) !!
Good Investment I say - to buy Apple stuff from Myer
Plus the cards usually have an expiry of 2 years - enough time to decide or wait for special offer !

    • They do it for students but it might be the sales rep's call.

This would be a good way to pick up an ipad cheap wouldn't it? Get them to price match bigW, seems like a pretty easy way to get an ipad2 16GB Wifi for $505 from an AU retailer.

    • Good call. But just check myer has the ipad2 wifi 16gb model for $579, with this offer you will need to spend $500 plus $29, so $529, which is not a really good price compared to those sub $500 prices we are seeing recently.

      • You didn't really read my comment properly. Use the gift cards and get them to price match BigW ($554)

        • Ok, you changed it while i wrote my comments :-)

    • Additionally Myer take Amex which is worth 1.6% in points (Westpac Altitude Platinum) and you earn myer one points which are worth 1% in points.

So the effective cost is 505 * 0.974 = $490.90 after points are earned.

      • If you like to be more precise, the myer one points are calculated base on original price, so the real cost would be even lower than $490.90.
        $504 - $504x1.6% - $554x1% = $490.4

        • very true…

      • actually I just realised that myerone is worth 2%, so i'll revise my calculation again.
        $504 - $504 * 1.6% - $551 * 2% = $484.92 is the effective price

Nice. Just got an ipad2 price matched to $553 (JBHifi). So 16GB Wifi for grand total of $503. Pity I'm not going overseas any time soon :P

  • I want a bed from there which is $3399 but they usually have 40% off so does that mean I can so it's about $2040 or so. Would I be able to buy 10, $200 gift cards and use it all for the bed?

    • Why Not! T&C say purchase of $5000 in Gift cards is the limit.

  • +1

Does anyone know if we can purchase a myer gift card by using Coles/Target/Myer gift card?
I know that you can do that at David Jones.
The condition of the purchase only says "Myer gift card bought can't be used to purchase another giftcard"
It does not say that we can't purchase Myer Gift card by using Coles/Target/Myer gift card

    • +1

go in and ask, i guess.

My source only supplies coles gift cards, which would mean i would have to pull off the following:

      • Buy $500 coles gift cards, for $475
      • Go to coles and purchase a $500 coles and myer group card for $500.
      • Take coles and myer group card to myer, purchase $550 worth of gift cards for $500.
      • Purchase Ipad, win.

Would be a decent heist but this is ozbargain, after all..

  • What is the expiry date of the gift card?

    • 2 years from the date of purchase - going on last year's T&C

  • when can i buy the gift card? start from today?

    • Normally you can just go to any counter to buy a Myer Gift card for the last few years when they have had this deal I have been directed to the gift returns place to get my cards. Not sure if this was because there were usually a large line of people or not though.

Just got back from purchasing a Macbook Pro. They price matched JB Hifi's current 10% off sale who have it for $1,260 which made it $1,160 after the $100 off from the vouchers. Thanks OzB!

    • Good buy!

    • Great deal, thanks for sharing.

If the giftcards were purchased with a credit card with loyalty points you realise more value from the deal on top of Myerone card bonus points and birthday bonus $20 on Silver, this is best deal to buy a Mac and Myer is often said to have high prices.

  • "$500 worth of Myer Gift Cards" , Does it mean we can purchase 5x$100 Myer Gift Cards to make it worth $500?

    • Originally they put through the transaction as 2 x $250 cards so I'm assuming yes.

  • u can do up to $500 per card. and $5000 at a time. All counters can do it. They just need at least 11 cards hanging near them. You can swipe your myerone but not sure if it does anything, yet to show up on my account but could be lag.

    • Gift Card purchases do not count for Myerone points. But when you purchase an item with the giftcard, Myerone points are earned.

      • Bought a $500 card recently, and was advised the MyerOne points have now recently changed and points are now earned both on purchase of the giftcards, and on use of the cards, making this offer even better.

  • Beware… In the event Myer goes out of business, the gift cards could become worthless. Make sure you spend it as soon as possible.

    • +1

seriously. u think Myer will go out of business? they are no more riskier than any other australian retailer. If u buy a giftcard(atleast the way i do it) plan what you need in advance before buying one.

  • +1

Just bought one this morning, deal is so new the guy on the counter had to check with his manager lol… but all good, now what to spend that $50 card on.. hmm overpriced goodies?

  • +2

This is a super-good deal for those wanting a Mac.

    I am planning on:
    - Buying $3500 worth of vouchers (on credit card to earn points)
    - Price match with JBHifi/Dick Smith for 10% off
    - Head to Myer and buy new iMac and Mac Book Air with the vouchers.
    - Swipe MyerOne card for around $60 extra off. ($20 / $1000 I think… but not sure)

Now that's a bargain (in Apple terms)

    • oh my god that's genius! i've been wanting a mac air for ages but i've been putting off waiting for a cheaper deal. thanks!

  • Nice deal, I used this a few years back (they've had this before) to take a big chunk off buying a TV.
If you are going to be spending big at Myer then you can't go past this

  • Why does this only have 74 votes and a measly amount of comments?

It's easily one of the best deals I have ever seen! The gift cards can be used for ages after purchase - even during sales and for price-matching!

  • Is it possible to get it price matched to education pricing THEN apply a 5% discount card?

  • Thinking of buying the 60" Series 8 Samsung LED TV

    $3,999.00 RRP
    -$533.20 less $10 for every $75
    $65.00 plus delivery
    $3,530.80 Price delivered

$- $300 bonus gift cards for buying $3000 in gift cards
    $3,000.00 Myer gift cards
    $230.80 cash
    $3,230.80 Out of pocket expense

-$200.00 Cashback from Samsung (in form of a debit card)

    $3,030.80 End expense

  • This deal is advertised as expiring tomorrow, but last year the deal was $500 giftcard with a bonus $50, and when this expired a later 2 day offer allowed the purchase of $100 with a bonus $10.
