1.15kg is pretty good for a budget 14 inch laptop

Is this a full metal casing?

    • Yes as stated in the specifications

  • +5

RAM can't be upgraded, would be very tempting otherwise

    • +1

      Shame that.

    • +1

Same! its why i havent pulled the trigger on so many thin and lights with good screens which arent 2k+

  • -5

8gb not a deal. very limited life span.

  • Would the plug for the charger be a US one?

  • +7

I purchased the AU version of this minus the MX GPU for $1050 - $980 after cashback

Been great for office work. Very fast and snappy. (my desktop is a 3800x, x570, 5700xt 32GB 3800mhz CL16)
Have not noticed any lag or slow downs, boots a almost instantaneous, literally 10 seconds from power on now.

Battery life has been amazing, my wife said she used it 3 days straight without a charge (MS Office - powerpoint, word, excel and Emails)

Yes its a pity its soldered RAM, but if its use is purely for office, it'll be more then adequate.

No such thing as Australian version. The model you have is a UX425 which is Asus' entry level ZenBook and is released all over the world.

Great laptop minus the annoying "sleep but doesn't wake up" issue.

      • +1

UM425…..yes Australian version because it comes with an AU plug charger.

This one being listed is a US plug.

  • if this was unsoldered 8gb ram this would be a very good deal especially with the mx350

  • Well darn, I just bought lenovo E14 gen2 two 3 days ago.

Compared to this the Lenovo is 1.64kg(heavier)
    Lower battery capacity.
    Has less usb ports.
No dedicated graphic card, for the better or worse .
    Has worse screen.

The only main plus seem to be that the Thinkpad series build is highly regarded (especially the KB) but then again Edge series is the lowest tier.

That and the Lenovo has upgradable ram and more Storage slots. Let's hope I don't regret this too much XD.

I bought the E14 AMD Gen 2, too, although at a higher price for Black Friday.

I also bought 32GB RAM 3200MHz SO-DIMM for $160 on Amazon, installed it, and now have 40GB RAM. You can't do that on the Asus advertised here. No way I'd buy a laptop this powerful that was hard limited to 8GB RAM.

This Zenbook has same number of USB ports as E14. But E14 has no micro sd card reader.

    I see Ryzen, I buy.

Seriously, if you're in the market for a laptop, and you see a Ryzen in sale, it's almost always worth it

    • Is the ryzens better than the equivalent i series by Intel?

      • +1

Yes, by quite a bit. Intels newest CPUs are definitely more competitive (the 11th gen tiger lake series) but AMD is expected to announce their newest 5000 series laptop CPUs in January which should leave Intel well behind again.

        • +2

Hopefully we will see more AMD in decent chassis and with good screens soon also

  • Intel No
    Amd Yes

    • +3

      Intel inside, idiot outside

I bought a ASUS laptop from the US on Amazon. The problem I had was that ASUS would give no support of the laptop in terms of parts or warrantee.
This was a few years ago, so not sure if this is still the case.

  • does this support USB-C charging?

    • Being USB-C 3.2, I am 99.9% sure it would.

  • Once you hit 1k, isn't it worth waiting for a surface laptop sale? They come down to 1200ish I think?

    • Only if/when the Surface comes with a AMD Ryzen 5000 series processor in future. The six core AMD R5 4500U CPU in this laptop blows away all the current gen Surfaces with 10th Gen Intel CPUs. It's still faster than Intel 11th gen CPUs in multi-threaded workloads, which aren't yet available in the Surface.

Ok no, but I have this laptop and it’s a piece of poo.

Just got it fixed for 3rd time, replaced mother twice hdmi port and hard drive. Key board is Ave, brightness is Ave and power off is in top right so god help you if you forget and go to delete something.

I had a Lenovo x1 carbon prior then bought this off a recommendation and just replaced this laptop during Black Friday with another x1 gen 7. X1 is streets ahead.

    • you forget and go to delete something.

      ouch…..

I have cheap china backup laptop with same key placement, but I tend not to hit the button - but perhaps my finger memory is on point (had it for along time).

    • You can try changing the power button action in Windows.

I just did some research and the mx450 is out and its significantly better than mx350
