Now we just need a 20% off code.

Yes, I'd advise to use a code rather than relying on shopback or cashrewards. I've had to file a claim with shopback from when they did the 10% cash back with the $100 bonus on top. Purchased via the shopback app. Clicked on the Dell $100 extra button in the app and it opened the browser within the app. Bought a XPS. The purchase (over $2k) hasn't shown up. Not happy at all. Now I've got the usual we will let you know in 30 days etc run around. Guessing they don't want to pay up on the bonus $100

      • Yeah that is normal behaviour from Shopback. Small amounts track no issue but large amounts often don't track. Very dodgy.

        • And I've just missed the window of 15 days change of mind policy. Although Dell can charge a restocking fee. I had about $150 in Dell vouchers I could have used but didn't. Not happy

    $959 when there's a 20% off coupon

Alternatively the Lenovo Thinkpad E15 also has the same specifications, for less

    • Build quality on the Lenovo is a lot better then the Dell.

      • Build quality on current XPS is extremely good though.

        • I'm referring to the Lenovo E15 vs the Dell Inspiron 15 5505. The XPS is in a different price bracket.

          • @shellshocked: Hmm, I am not sure about that.

The 5505 has an aluminum display lid and keyboard deck. The only plastic bits are the display surround and the bottom lid (which you won't see any ways). I believe the E15 only has an aluminum display lid. There are some deck flexes but not anything significant in day to day use.

Truth to be told, I prefer the 5505 better than the E15 myself.

            • @systema: Which display is better between the 2?

              • @F1ProjectOne: It depends.

The E15 can come with either an AUO B156HAN02.1 or BOE NV156FHM-N48 panel. The Dell 5505 comes with the BOE T1WD3-NV15N3D (BOE0819).

The BOE panels are around 280nits for measured brightness while the AUO display is around 240nits. All of these panels are marketed as 250nits displays and covers around the same colour space.

If you happen to get the BOE panel in the E15, it should be similar to the Dell 5505 when it comes to display panel. If you happen to get the AUO panel, it would be worse than what they usually use in the 5505.

  • After getting (and returning) an XPS and most recently the Inspiron 7400 I'm sadly not going back to Dell for a long time. Horrible QC, build quality isn't very solid and lots of issues with overheating…

  • Ordered one via Dell ebay with the black Friday sale with delivery mid December. just received a new ETA of mid January…
    Bit silly

    • I gave up, cancelled the Dell ebay order and ordered the 4700u 16GB from lenovo direct for $1,000
Dell offered a free laptop bag if I kept the order…but delivery time was pushed back again
