Obviously not the best quality, resolution, etc, but it's a lot of screen for your dollar! Not sure if there are any DSE vouchers still available :)

  • From the product description:

This Vivo 51" High Definition Plasma TV features 3 x HDMI Inputs, a response time of 11ms and an aspect ratio of 16:9. The Vivo Plasma comes equipped with a DVB-T HD Tuner Built In, a USB port and a HD screen resolution of 1365 x 768.

  • Good find!

  • Nice one. Given that I rip my blu-rays to 720p anyway for streaming on my upstairs TV this seems an ideal replacement for my existing panel.

  • +2

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with a 1366x768 display for the right purposes. My Pana from a few years ago is still this res and I've never really felt let down yet. If I was buying a new one day it'd be full high res but the lower res makes a cheaper option for a 2nd screen somewhere. Good deal.

I would buy one if i wanted real bad colour, massive power consumption, a new heater, a ticking noise in the panel, ugly frame and base and if i was really really cheap. I mean really cheap.

    • Wow, is it really that bad? Do you have personal experience of this set?

      • +1

Yes, i have known people who have had this brand and examined it thoroughly at the stores. The parts are very random and not of quality.

Nik is right on the ball.

I would say STAY AWAY From this brand. I've dealt with it. I can't tell you where but trust me its better to spend some more money for another brand or not to spend $500 at all. If this doesn't convince you , Please do a favour buy an extended warranty with it as you will need it.

  • Great deal. Positive from me. Anyone know of any good deals on 32inch tvs? This ones way to big for the bedroom.

    • Maybe it's time to upgrade the size of our bedrooms to compensate for cheap big tv's, if you want real bad colour, massive power consumption, a new heater, a ticking noise in the panel, ugly frame and base and if i was really really cheap. I mean really cheap…

  • Compared to other big TVs, these are pretty terrible.

However, for $500, they're a good amount of TV for your money. Just don't expect to compare it to a name-brand TV 2-3x the price.

    • I assume you've either got one or seen one in the flesh? I've not seen one yet myself but I'm hoping to do so soon so I can compare. Can you please explain why these are pretty terrible?

      • +2

I'm a casual at Dick Smith the bigger Vivo plasmas, though great value for money, simply do not compare well to other (albeit more expensive) options. If the budget allows, would recommend to either spend the extra couple hundred for a better TV, wait, or even just go down in size. The picture on these is pretty average and they will also chew through a lot of power and create a nice bit of heat.

On the other hand, they are only $500 so you can't really compare them against a $1000 plasma. I'd go have a look at one in the flesh in-store and judge for yourself. Resolution also isn't everything, I was surprised by the picture quality on one of these entry level LG plasmas a couple months ago which has the same resolution.

The samsung plasma (550 I believe) that's been popping up on ozB lately also seems quite good from what I've heard.

  • Samsung woolies deal a few weeks ago was nice, $475 for a 50inch with free delivery.(staff 5% from 499) :D

  • Personally, I'm waiting for a 55"+ 3d plasma (unlikely to be an led lcd for a while)to hit the $1000 mark, then I'm in :)
