    Sounds like a decent product.

  • Is this global version?

    • +8

China doesn't even have Google let alone Google assistant. This is global version for sure.

    • yes it says that in the title of the listing

  • 2gb Rom? Does not seem sufficient to fit even the o/s.

    • +1

      8gb rom….

    • It's not going by web and Amazon reviews. Lots of buffering and pretty laggy but at least it looks good!

  • Ah… Maybe 2gb is what's left. lol.

  • Seller is that $40 US ?

    • Looks like Aud in my browser.

    • AUD

  • +1

1GB RAM is not gonna make for a pleasant experience - might put that $40 towards the rumoured upcoming release of the 4K Fire TV Stick here in Oz…

    • +2

Somehow I doubt we will be getting a 4K Fire TV. They keep giving us the 'lite' versions afterall.

      • +2

4K Stick price but 'sh-lite' versions for Aus..

        • +1

vote to become an official US state then you'll get full amazon….. and legal protections…and far right extremism - wait we already have that in the federal government. 1 down 2 to go….

    • Where did you hear this rumour ?

  • Would this handle Foxtel Now?

    • +2

It's used to, Now not so much. Who knows if it will Later.

      • 🤣

I think I mean the Foxtel Go app.

Asking for a work colleague who wants to watch Foxtel on an old non-smart TV

        • +1

Foxtel Go isn't supported on Android TV.
Not sure about sideloading - I couldn't get it to work on my Sony TV.

  • I'm told the fire stick can be hacked to stream content outside of Amazon stuff. Does anyone know if this stick is open to all types of content or can be hacked etc.

    • This runs vanilla android Tv AFAIK so no need to hack like fire tv.

    • +2

“Hacked” 🤣 Side loading an APK isn’t hacking it.

Mi TV Stick Chromecast with Google TV
CPU Quad Core CotexA53 1.9GHz Quad Core Cortex A55
    RAM 1GB 2GB
    ROM 2GB 8GB
    Resolution 1080p@60 4K@60
    Connection Micro USB USB C
Price $40 $139.99 with $95.94 Netflix credit means you essentially only pay $44.05 for the device

I know which one I prefer.

    • -4

Just for the first year tho.

      • Whats just for the first year? Both prices are once off unless you are adding the cost of a netflix subscription to the chromecast and not the Mi TV Stick. Sure if you aren't a netflix subscriber (or subscribe somewhere else as I think that credit is only applicable to an AU account) then the Mi TV Stick is a better value unless you can get a good deal on the Chromecast with Google TV.

    • -1

Different usages maybe? Mi stick seems a lot more portable.

      • Who is moving this around? It's a little smaller than the chromecast but the chromecast has that small cable allowing you to connect it to TV's that don't have the clearance for a long stick.

        • Chromecast requires a power supply. The Xiaomi is powered by USB port.

          • @Homerlovesbeer: Just wondering is the USB port doesn’t required power supply?
Chromecast also using micro usb is it?
I don’t have both, so don’t know anything about those items.
            Just curious, no offence ✌️

            • +1

@evo7: Chromecast with Google TV uses USB C but from what I've read it cannot be powered from a TV's USB port as it needs more power than TV's will generally output.

    • Can we apply the credit when using the Netflix Turkey hack?

      • Nah. Have to sell off the credit.

    • Chromecast can't play stuff off your nas right?

      • +3

Why wouldn’t it with Kodi or Plex?

        • -1

I don't know, when I last looked at Chromecast they said it's only for streaming, not for real files.
That's why I bought a crappy Chinese bulky android tv box

          • +1

@furyou: That's the old Chromecast, this new version comes with Android TV OS with remote so you can install Apps and stream without using your phone.

      • You can install Plex on Chromecast with Google TV

      • +1

Chromecast can't, but Chromecast with Google TV is different and it can after you install a compatible app.

  • +1

    1080p though

  • +1

Does this work like a normal android tv box? Ie install kodi, play videos off your nas?
How powerful is it? Mine can't handle h264 10bit stupid anime encodes. Annoying useless format.
Does it have the usual xiaomi china server crap?

  • +1

Frustratingly, this does not support Kayo. I have one and the recent version update is not compatible. You can however Chromecast Kayo from your phone

    • How's the performance with 1GB of RAM?

      • Not too bad, a bit sluggish navigating - I have stopped using it though as I primarily wanted it for Kayo

        • +1

Thanks, I'll just wait for a deal for Chromecast with Google TV.

      • +2

        Not great. I'm skipping this.

  • Does anyone tried to order on this website and arrive on time?
