Bondhus 22 Piece L-Key Set $20.80 @ Bunnings

510

Looks like Bunnings is price matching the Amazon AU price of the Bondhus Hex keys now $20.80 usually $42.80 at Bunnings. This is great if Bunnings is price matching Amazon AU the more competition the better.

Amzaon AU has lowered the price, so a bit cheaper than the deal i posted other day. Shipped from Amazon AU $20.80. If you ship from the US its $20.30

Manufactured from Protanium Steel, the Bondhus L-key set is 20% stronger than regular steel hex keys.

…But at least 80% weaker than Unobtanium Steel.

    • +6

But far stronger than Chinesium alloy.

      • +2

But are still able to round out the hex, which makes them poor for frequent use. Buy Wera Hex-plus tools and not about cam out.

    • +1

I'll wait for a vibranium set

    • +2

      Unobtainium?

  • +11

These are great quality allen keys but unless you need imperial then just get the ball head set instead, far more useful.

    • How can a 9 piece set from the same brand be more useful than a 22 piece set at pretty much the same price?

      • +9

        Metric vs imperial

Half of the set is next to useless.

        • +2

more than half. the metric hex set only has 9 pieces and is missing a 7mm & 9mm.
          kinda shitty really

          • @franco cozzo: Is there a similar set with all sizes available?

            • +3

@unity1: It's a joke. Standard sized metric bolts don't require 7mm or 9mm Allen keys.

              Reference

          • +3

@franco cozzo: Yep. 59% useless to be exact.

          • +1

@franco cozzo: Never needed a 7 or 9mm allen key anyway

Besides got a socket one if i did

And tbh for larger allen keys you are better with a socket anyway as they will be toght

        • How is it useless? Im an industrial sparky alot of the industry use Imp. Poor comment.

          • @fordleg: You are the exception.

            • @MS Paint: id say a lazy unnecessary comment. Just beating your chest for attention.

              • @fordleg: OK but I think it's fair to say that people like yourself that work in a commercial environment and use hex keys everyday are likely already equipped with a decent complete set of metric and imperial (like you probably already have?)

The majority of people on ozbargain looking at this post are saying to themselves "oh cool, I probably should get a set of these that would be kind of neat". These people need to be aware that the imperial keys are effectively useless and a more appropriate set would be better.

          • @fordleg: How many home people need imperial allen keys ??

            • @J5: People with imperial screws?
Eg. American made bike parts use imperial bolts usually.

              • +1

                @Pandaroo: No shit sherlock

Actually im curious just how many allen keys you would need on a harley and i dare say anyone that currently does their own work on a harley would already have a set

How about run a poll on how many harleys are in this group and i dare say there will likely be sfa

Back to the previous post , the average ozbargainer wont need an imperial allen key in their life

      • +4

Suggested set has ball ends. I would never bother with Allen keys without the ball end.

  • +13

Never actually seen or heard them called L keys before, makes sense based on the shape but has always just been Allen keys.

  • +4

This one from amazon is also a good price at $31 with the ball ends, still a good price i got the above non ball end set from bunnings for $30 a few weeks ago.

I have this set and can confirm they're excellent quality. Think I paid about $27 from Amazon US 18 months ago?

    • Yeah always take the ball end versions so much easier to use

  • Haha funny product name

I've been a fitter and turner for 25 years now. I've used countless brands of Allen keys in my time, and these are hands down the best keys I've ever used. I've had pieces of pipe hanging off them undoing insanely tight red loctited Unbrako high tensile bolts, and just when I'm thinking nup, this keys gonna snap, ping, the bolt gives.

They don't round off, and they don't break. They're a set for life.

    • Nice, are you using the ball head or straight ends?

      • +13

Definitely get the ball end. The straight ends can be necessary when deep access is needed on tight bolts in industry, but that's a rarity.

Note that the surface coating on these is not rust proof. Keep them dry, and wipe with a light coating of oil if you keep them in a shed that has moisture (like mine).

Pro tip - rust removal is easy with oxalic acid from Bunnings. A light coat with Lanotec lanolin spray also from Bunnings, no more rust again.

Hold on, I'll be right back while I tighten that IKEA table that's gotten wonky loose.

    • +2

But surely being an IKEA shopper you’ll have over 100 Allen keys floating around the house in semi ripped plastic bags for those “just in case” moments like these..?

      • +2

But surely being an OzBargain users they would have the 93 piece Boch tool kit, or the 173 Repco tool chest kit?

        • 173 Repco tool chest kit

          Includes 100 zip ties 😁

      • Got one in the IKEA packaging. What I did was to cut the end L bit and then use it in my drill, it works like a charm.

  • +2

Great brand crap model, ball ends are a must imho

    Bondhus

Waiting for the James Bondhus version

i’ve started buying the wera on amazon when on special, they have tapered sides so that less chance of rounding the socket hole if people have used wrong sizes in the past ….amazon is cheaper than bunnings on wera.

  • These are brilliant I paid full price for a set, ball end set is more convenient overall but at this price I'd honestly just buy them.

  • TIL what and why some of my hex keys have that different looking (ball) end.

  • Is Protanium Steel better than stainless steel?

    • Protanium® Steel is a proprietary alloy steel developed and used only by Bondhus. It is the hardest, most ductile, and longest wearing steel that exists in the hex tool industry.
