Samsung 55" LED TV - UA55D6000 - $1299 after Cashback
This was posted 1 year 5 months 4 days ago, and might be an out-dated deal
Was shopping for a new 55" TV and you came across these? I have bought from the cable connection before and been really happy with the service and esp pricing.

So $1299 is a good price, I reckon!

TCC sells more than just TV's and the OP only states he has bought from them before, not bought a TV from them before.
+6 votesmattwalker on 19/12/2011 - 15:26 ¶Hi guys,
I can confirm that giannip75 is definately not a rep - He does buy a lot of TV's though and his wife considers him a rep ;)

Hi Matt,
I had a terrible exp with claiming a Samsung Blu ray redemption in the past, could you explain how this one would work.Last time it was a Blu ray player , I registered online, tried to follow-up and it ended up being a real pain.. At first they (samsung's promotion division) said, my retailer was not authorised for the promotion, I contacted the retailer, he said he will chase it up. Repeated follow-ups later I finally got the blu ray player more than 5 months later.
They made it so difficult that it was almost not worth it..
fergmonkey on 19/12/2011 - 11:26 ¶Definitely the best deal out there. I just bought one of these last week (just after samsung dropped the prices, meaning many retailers dropped theirs.) I actually end up going with big brown box - it was $1425 after cashback, which I was happy with. I didn't go with the cable connection as they don't offer additional extended warranties (they told me it was because they couldn't find a company to do them that they trusted.)
Anyway, this is the best deal around without extended warranty, if you want EW then go to big brown box.

About the same including shipping (slightly less for @ BBB) - http://www.bigbrownbox.com.au/samsung-ua55d6000-series-6-55-...

I dropped my Panasonic plasma on Saturday when I was moving it onto a new cabinet… broke the inside plasma panel, but not the outside glass… sad… Now I can't decide if I pay my $500 insurance excess and let the insurance company replace my tv with a similar 50" low-res screen, or whether I keep my $500 and spend extra and get something like the above….

Yeah, I have already asked my insurer, Suncorp, about how it will affect premiums. They told me I have to make 3 in a 5 year period to affect them. Having said that, she also told me that they'll only replace my tv with a similarly specced model. And I know I could probably replace my tv for $550-600 easily - or way cheaper if I bought the same thing second hand.
I have put my claim in, but nothing happens with the claim until I get the tv to a repairer who can give a repair quote/written off quote to the insurer. So I'll be able to watch the deals after xmas and see what comes up.
I have room along my wall/cabinet for a 60", but I think a HD 55" would be the go. 4 years ago HD content was in its infancy, and the sets were overly expensive. Also, i have a long loungeroom so the HD detail would get lost over that distance. If I went to a larger screen then the HD will be noticeable. And they are cheaper now than ever before.
mattwalker on 19/12/2011 - 15:29 ¶Hi Cisco,
It is a cashback via redemption of $100 … you were correct!
walletinspector on 19/12/2011 - 12:49 ¶Anyone know if they have any of these in their perth store to look at? Id be looking to pick it up anyway.
Also anyone in the know on these TV's help me with the refresh rate. its says their clear motion rate is 200 Hz, im assuming thats different than the actual refresh rate. Id lean towards the UA55D6600 as ive actually seen that one in a JB hifi and it was beautiful.
How many glasses does it come with and how much are they? I was leaning towards the LG tvs becuase of their glasses but this deal is pretty good, I dont think youll see tvs marked down this much in the sales after xmas.
tsunamisurfer on 19/12/2011 - 13:17 ¶Its 100hz, as stated.
FWIW…100hz is already very good.
I watch fast ball sports all the time and there are no comet trails tailing the ball movement.
Personally I don't need 200hz or 400hz.
mattwalker on 19/12/2011 - 15:30 ¶I can confirm this TV is not on display in WA and it is a 100hz unit.

Yeh why does the spec for this model say 200 and rep says not. Does that mean the model number provided is incorrect?

+2 votestsunamisurfer on 19/12/2011 - 13:22 ¶This model is a little frustrating. I researched it during the bonus Galaxy S II deal.
This model is Wifi capable.
Out the box it cannot do wifi unless you purchase a USB dongle for it.
Samsung's official statement is that only THEIR dongle ($80) will work.
A search of the internet suggests this is false, but I could not source a third party dongle that would work in Perth.
The next model up the 6600 is has the Wifi dongle in-built.
Can also use Ethernet of course.

Did some research and apparently this thing does the trick

Unfortunatey, it is not sold in australia. I found something similar on ebay for around $40
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-2011-Same-Samsung-WIS09ABGN-R...
but being only $10 less than the official samsung model (also on ebay), i'm somewhat sceptical - may just go with an ebay samsung dongle seller with good feedback.
Up to you guys to decide how to spend your money :)
mattwalker on 19/12/2011 - 16:39 ¶Hi Boirefish,
I have not heard of another brand working I am sorry … The genuine units work well though!

This seems like a pretty good price, is there any catch or is it because it's an older model? The specs look good.
http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/tv-audio-video/television...
mattwalker on 19/12/2011 - 16:40 ¶No catches and its not even an old model (its a 2011 model) its just a special! :)
+1 votesnowpuppie on 19/12/2011 - 15:17 ¶Have a read of the Australian Consumer Guarantee. The guarantee, enacted earlier this year, protects consumers against manufacturer faults on goods, typically having the same coverage as an extended warranty. For a large set like this, the seller/manufacturer will also need to pick it up for repair/replacement.

You are covered by Statutory Warranty, if you could be bothered going through ACCC, Fair Trading, CTTT etc etc:

mattwalker on 19/12/2011 - 16:40 ¶If you wish to purchase the TV through me I can put you in touch with an extended warranty company. I do not sell extended warranties I am sorry.

Question for Rep
Hey mate any idea how much will it cost? just in case one decides to buy an extended warranty on this unit.
On the other hand what happens if this unit stops working after 12 months and I dont have extended warranty. Is it customers problem or as a retailer you guys will look out for your customers.

mattwalker on 19/12/2011 - 17:32 ¶Hi Bob, Close … but a bit further down!
We are here:

There is new signage up all over the shop and A-Boards to guide you in!

Takes a deep breath
It makes a weird quiet buzzing sound that caused me to return it and get a second one which does the same thing — it might have just been a side effect of the manufacturing process. You don't pay attention to it after about 30 seconds, but if the room is quiet it's definitely audible.
While playing Xbox 360 or PS3, at higher resolutions you'll see bits of artifacts which are really annoying.
While connecting my PC, there's weird horizontal colour distrortions. E.g. It's most notable where if you have a black background and you put a window on the left half of the screen, you will see a colour distortion on the right half of the screen along the same row.
It does in fact have that burn-in issue, but only to a minor effect where it'll stick around for half an hour after using the TV again. Not so much of a problem as it is of a constant worry of having something on the screen for more than a couple minutes.

I currently have a 50" Samsung plasma (3 years old) that has the buzzing noise from behind. I think it's a normal thing with plasmas or at least Samsung plamas from that generation. If you search around dvforums and Whirlpool, there are a few threads. It's most noticable where the TV is in a corner, thus the sound amplifying out of the back. Best way to get rid of it was to put something to dampen the noise like a pillow or some other dampening material.
Agree with the burn in issue. Most noticeable with the tennis/cricket/footy. Sound is too low and had to plug in computer speakers. Changing channels takes too long, very difficult to see tv when it's sunny and program information doesn't come on when flicking channels. Other than that, good picture. Depressing seeing this 55" tv at half the price I paid for my 50" :(

I have a Panasonic Full HD Plasma I bought in late 2007 and have none of those issues, in fact it is still rates pretty highly for picture quality even vs today's LED's. Has pretty awesome sound too with rich bass. I reckon Pana Plasma's are a notch above Samsung from what I have seen and heard.
mattwalker on 20/12/2011 - 07:58 ¶Hi there,
It comes with 1 pair in the box and I have the spare glasses to suit all 2011 models from $42.50 a pair:

mattwalker on 20/12/2011 - 14:48 ¶They are a CR57 (or similar I think) and are about $3-4 from any chemist!

DoctorOwl, You are thinking about dodgy eBay sales. Unrelated to this Melbourne retailer.

snowpuppie on 20/12/2011 - 15:05 ¶Hi, Folks. Can anyone comment on edge bleed (flash light effect), reflective-ness and viewing angles on this model? These seem to be the main issues for the D6000's.

I got my sister to get it so she has the receipt. She simply told them to look up The cable connections price and then they did better. They did try to flog off the extended warranty for around $100 which we weren't interested in.
That price was pickup FYI. The Cable connection has cheap delivery.

mattwalker on 21/12/2011 - 11:19 ¶Please note,
We are now out of pickup stock in WA.
NSW stock will be available again tomorrow and VIC stock is fine!
Cheers,
Matt
