660

Hey people, I'm aware that GetJar have been posted here before but I believe it's worthy of noting this new sale / achievement.

There's certainly some great apps in the list including:

Get started by visiting m.getjar.com (QR code for the lazy ones like me)

For those having compatibility problems with the GetJar app itself, try this - I'd highly recommend this as a last resort though as it's 3rd party modified!

  • Can i update as the android market…

    • +1

Nope. Can only update through GetJar.

    • Nope, and unless you root your device and deattach them, these apps may show up in the Android market and start failing to update (if you have automatic updates.)

  • Doesn't seem to support tablets?

    • +1

I've just update the OP if you're brave?

  • +3

Phones running out of memory left, right and centre.

    • Yeah, that was one of the very few reasons I disliked my Nexus One. I could blast the person at HTC that decided 512Mb is enough for app storage. Even with App2SD in place, it wasn't hard to fill up. The Galaxy S2 fixed that good and propper!

      • Thanks. It was an issue with the browser not downloading the getjar.apk
        Best value apps:
        - Smart Office Plus
        - Radardroid Pro

      • Just plug in a 64gb micro SD. The phone doesn't say it supports SDXC, but most do see the full size once you format.

  • How did you come across this? (in case future sales)

Also I tried finding in Getjar, but cant find this new sale catalogue…?

  • GetJar seems to be such a pain to worry about, but they're free so I might try installing them. I can't remember if it was a pain because of my Desire (memory, or lack of) or just GetJar.

    • You have to install their app to be able to install things from them and I don't believe they update the apps. Like you say, it's free and gives you a good chance to play with the app and buy it on the Android Market if you want to keep up to date and support the devs.

  • is there potential for malware with this unofficial installations?

    • +1

These aren't unofficial. GetJar, despite it's average design is a long running "App Store" before that term was even coined by others. http://www.getjar.com/about/ Like anything with Android, use the brain you were given when installing any app and check the prilages line up with the apps description and read some reviews.

    • You can install "lookout" if you afraid of installing malware…

  • Thanks for the link…!!!

  • Yeah thanks but there's nothing new here. I've been viewing GetJar everyday since the 10c fiasco.

  • blow up is good to waste a few hours :)

  • some didnt work on Desire HD :(

    Fruit Ninja
    Zenonia 2
    Illusia

We've got good news and bad news: we've figured out that you have a HTC Desire HD mobile phone, but unfortunately Fruit Ninja THD won't work on that phone.

    • THD is for tegra devices.

  • Splashtop Remote Desktop is one of the freebies, handy.

  • I had problems on my tablet accessing the list so went directly to http://www.getjar.com/gold to show all the apps.

  • Just wondering, why can GetJar afford to do all these free games?

    • Easy… By scamming the developers like Groupon…

Some apps also have inbuilt ad modules so the developers do not lose out.

  • is it posible to download to computer so i have a back up for later? when i try to download it just tells me to use the app…

    • +1

Use the GetJar app as normal and install the apps. From there you can use any number of apps from the market to backup those installed GetJar apps. Eg. Astro File Manager or even AirDroid.

  • Paper Camera another good one

    • As is Tek Trak Pro - it tracked my phone to within 10m.

  • -1

I always thought this site was a black market.

    • -1

      deleted.

  • +1

four player reactor also free !

  • Don't know why whenever I download apps from getjar if the item is not on Market it will give me an error and ask me to retry.

    Anyone have this problem?

  • +2

BTW Interesting read of how GetJar does this (and shows that it is legal with developer buy in):

Also the comments on the post explains the disadvantages: e.g. no android market links.
    My favorite quote:
"I wish they supported proper updating techniques…it's just like an unlimited trial service where every app is fully unlocked but maybe not updatable. Kind of reminds me of downloading cracked versions of apps, but legally."
