Hey guys, I bought one of these yesterday, the lens that came with it does not have an image stabilizer option (however the manual and canon's website indicates that it does). Can anyone confirm if it does?
Edit: My bad. Just realized that the lens is series III, which does not have IS

99% sure this deal is the dumbed down non IS version - the IS version is in my opinion about $200 more expensive than this. I tried convincing the girl that helped me at Harvey Norman that I should get the IS version at $398 price, but she blocked my advances
kogan are selling at $509 with IS series II lens, is that a good price?
Bought the kit for $398 - Listed as a special at that price…
and got the additional IS lens for $90… (last one in shop)..
so $488 for kit.. with both a non-IS lens and a IS lens..

you can get the IS kit lens for about $100 on ebay. Probably be able to sell the on IS lens for $40?

Just been to HN alexandria; and got it for $398 and extra 2 years warranty for additional $35, all up $433. Thanks heaps for the info ozbargainerrsss :)
North Ryde $398 in store… but how did you get the extra 2 years warranty for $35? Does that cover the lense as well?
The guy at HN Alexandria told me it was on special for $35, I assume it's include the lens as it was purchase as a kit.
I've seen this kit advertised in Harvey Norman catalogue, and a couple of other catalogues and websites for about $500, and the picture shows the "IS" of the Image Stabiliser on the lens, but the kit code mentioned refers to the non-image stabilised kit. Good luck anyone getting the IS version :)

how is this compare to a pentax k-r kit lens?

I reckon all of these lenses are going to be fantastic for whatever the amateur photographer is going to throw at them. There are people out there who wouldn't go for anything OTHER than a Pentax, and there are people out there who wouldn't accept a Pentax for free. (Just like printer fanbois who would/wouldn't use a Canon/HP/Epson/whatever. I reckon they are all probably pretty good. If you are THAT GOOD a photographer, then you will probably know which one is right for you.
Happy for everyone to tell me how disasterously wrong I am about all this.

no what i mean is, is it worth spend extra to get the standard pentax k-r kit or just get this model? manage to source the k-r for $509 so its about $111 difference, is the extra feature worth it

hmm that's what I was suspecting…most of the aussie stock bodies I have seen are Japanese made..might be a shift in practices or just cheaper stock..but they seems to be outing body and lenses from Taiwan now
