  • Nice. With a relatively short 12 month contract as well.

  • Hmm… I shouldn't have voted so quickly.

    Just thinking about this offer…

Does "pay $19.99 for a $49 cap" mean that if you use, say $15 of calls, you only pay $19.99? But if you exceed $19.99 your charges keep going up until you reach $49?

Most other $49 caps out there require you to pay $49 whether or not you spend that much… but does this cap just mean the minimum you pay is $19.99, but the maximum is still $49?

If that is not the case and it is really a $19.99 cap, then the "$49 cap" bit is kind of redundant.

    • I think what it meant is — you are getting a regular Optus $49 cap plan with $300 included calls for $19.95 per month. TPG is the same company as Soul, who resells Optus' network.

      From the page:

Now you only need to pay $19.99 to get a $49 Mobile Cap plan per month.

      which includes

$300 worth of included Cap Value which can be used for calls, texts and data usually valued at $49 per month

So you pay $19.95 for what other people usually pay $49 for. HOWEVER,

      • You have to BYO phone, so your phone purchase is not subsidised by the plan cost.
      • There's $20 SIM + $10 delivery charge up-front.
  • Sounds that way.

  • Curious … They will take something like a rental bond. They will take in advance, $20 to cover usage outside the cap value … does that mean this isn't capped? They will also keep taking out money to ensure you keep a safety for them of $20. If they cannot obtain that safety amount, they may suspend your account.

Are their rates higher than Optus ? … link here

  • that's actually a better deal than Three's $19 deal

  • Not good deal at all since International calls are not included in the cap!

    • when are they ever included?

      It is a good deal.

      • Virgin mobile / Optus / Three are included in their cap plans!

        • since when did optus include international in their $49 caps?

          • @jashjash: NArr optus do not include international calls in their $49 caps

            • @Car-la-la: Sorry my mistake. Optus doesn't included International calls in their cap but Virgin mobile, Three, Soul… do have it.
This is a good deal if it include international voice calls!

  • Great Deal!!
I'm locked in to the Optus $49 p/m ($300 worhth of calls) contract for 24 months - sure a phone is included but for the extra $30 per month over 24 months = $720 —- there is no way my included phone is worth that much.
This deal is much better then Three's deal - if i needed a mobile plan i would jump at it!!

  • Interesting that the cap includes data. Not many caps out there include data that I know of (except for Crazy Johns …)

    http://www.tpg.com.au/mobile/callrates.html

WAP over GPRS and Wireless Internet $0.05 Per 10KB session (included in cap)

    • i think it works out to about 40Mb for that $300 at that rate!

If you want data, it might be better off to go with Virgin Mobile where you get 300Mb for $10, but you need to be on a $20 post paid plan first, unfortunately.

      • If you want a fair bit of data, would $39 for 5GB be better? It is with Virgin Mobile, so you'd have to add a $20 post paid plan to that as well. Link here

Not sure if I misread this … maybe it's wireless broadband for your notebook as opposed to giving you cheap browsing from your phone over the mobile phone system.

    • It's WAP over GPRS so you might only get WAP access — which is not really "data" when you compare it with other providers…

  • looks like might suit me.. i can't find any info on their site about porting my number though.
Is this a standard thing across all companies now?

  • I just signed up I didnt receive an Immediate Confirmation Email should I be worried ??? They said sign up details will be confirmed right away by Email ??? anyone Signed up after hours like me havent received their Wellcome Email yet ???

P.S Too bad it didnt allow me to pick my own number ???

Edit Received Email Delayed by 15-20 Minutes I nearly freaked out thinking I put wrong email addy In :p…

Cheers Great Deal Thank you :)

    • jasx, anything during sign up about porting? i read through the terms and conditions and it says that you may be able to port a number, just wondering about the process to go about it.

  • BamZero Yes there is an option in Step 5 that allows you to either (A) Get a Pre-allocated Number or (B) Port Your Own number from another service.

P.S it's very simple to port as I ported mine as well from Vodafone Pre-Paid, just be sure your not on an existing contract from your previous plan or cancellation fee's will apply. :)

More info about porting and pricing and service at Whirpool forum with a TPG Customer Rep going through the steps and Answering Questions, if your a Pre-existing Soul Customer you can't Port Unfortunately, sucks to be Soul :)

EDIT Only Negative No Problem for me though I check my stuff online all the time I would have signed my Parents up for this as well but TPG lost business because of this sneaky trick as my parents don't have time to log on everyday just to check their Balance :(, theres no way to check your balance unless you log online into your Account Page very very sneaky.

1.11. How do I check my usage and monthly statement?
If you want to see how much credit you've used up so far in the month, and how many call credits you have left, simply go to "Your Account" at www.tpg.com.au . At "Your Account" you can also see your monthly statement. We will also email your billing information, usage information, etc to you.

    • Optus is like that as well you can ONLY check your usuage online!

  • I held off from signing up, for no particular reason, just didn't get around to it.

Paid off it seems, as the offer is now without any contract period and they have removed the delivery fee also.

Great for me, as signing up for a minimum term was my only reservation.

  • excellent, just signed up
    needed a new plan anyway
