[Unobtainable] G Suite Business - Unlimited Drive Storage (or 1TB/User for < 5 Users) $16.80/Month + 14 Day Free Trial @ Google

Moved to Forum: Original Link

A number of features but I'm only posting to promote unlimited storage for a single account.
Yes Google states "Drive Unlimited cloud storage (or 1TB per user if fewer than 5 users)" However, the 5 users has never been enforced.
I have had over 20TB of encrypted data on the cloud since November 2019

  • It is normal pricing and the price they advertise is infact ex-GST.

'However, the 5 users has never been enforced'

Dosnt mean it wont be in future,

and when that rule comes in, 365 is cheaper for the 5user count,

    • +1

Same as many deals here. ARG/TUR Netflix, IND YouTube premium. I can't promise Google won't enforce it in the future either. I understand being wary, Amazon previously pulled pin on unlimited previously. However, you shouldn't store anything on cloud that you don't have a backup for or store data you don't care gets lost.
Google is also a different animal than Amazon. You can upload as many videos as you want on YouTube. As long as it's private it doesn't get striked. Enterprise and cloud data is much cheaper than consumer data. Google also makes money on data. Cloud isn't a 1:1 storage either. Besides for redundancy, there would be instances where thousands could have the same file upload, Google isn't keeping a copy for every single user.

Office 365 is a different beast. Depends on your needs if better. Great if want to share with multiple users but is limited to 1TB per person (max 6) if I am not mistaken.

you shouldn't store anything on cloud that you don't have a backup for

But you can store data in two different clouds that use different infrastructure

You can upload as many videos as you want on YouTube

N.B. It is not a replacement for an unlimited storage: it can delete any of your videos if its algorithms detect any violation e.g. copyrighted background music.

      • also youtube, like IG and other social media, allow you to upload whatever you like because it's publicly accessible with ads on it unlike your private cloud storage

      • Google also makes money on data.

How do they make money with your Google Drive data?

Besides for redundancy, there would be instances where thousands could have the same file upload, Google isn't keeping a copy for every single user.

They're certainly keeping a copy for every single user who stores data in encrypted form like your 20TB. ;)

    • I've been stung by the Google Photo changes to start counting all photo uploads in June 2021 and delete accounts that are inactive for 2 years.

I was creating new Google accounts for events and using it to upload / share photos. Another use case was to scan photos from elderly relatives and share with the family so that everyone has a copy of the photos.

  • +2

I am more interested in the 20TB of encrypted data, care to share?

  • Anyway to use your current gmail account and use this as a replacement for Google Drive.

    • G Suite still uses gdrive. Would need to migrate files across. I don't believe you can use your existing Gmail account. As G Suite is business and your existing Gmail would be personal.

  • +1

So what you're telling me is that a grandfathered free g-suite domain is worth good money.

    • I don't believe so. From memory one does not get the freebie space on those. 15GB per user for docs and the likes from memory.

  • Does it work for Google Photo?

    • +1

yes i used to use gsuite with google photos… but then I migrated back to normal
note there is no easy way to migrate everything to a non gsuite gmail …

  • +2

I thought Google deprecated GSuite and moved to Google Workspace which has a 2TB limit for the standard business account.

Interestingly, if you remove the extra slashes in the URL, it redirects you to Google Workspace.
    Eg:
    https://gsuite.google.com.au/intl/en_au/pricing.html

I'm wondering if OP has somehow linked to the old GSuite site.

    • You are correct. This is in the "transition" stage to workspaces and GSuit will end soon. Giggle has been sketchy on the details :/
As a user you should have got the emails stating such last year.

    • I can only assume when I searched gsuite pricing that link came up as previously visited page. As nofate said details of transition are limited.

    • Yep I have many sites on Google Workspaces and the limit is 2TB.

    • looks like a url hack/bug to force it to display the old page, theres a bunch of '////////' in the URL

  • +1

I have had over 20TB of encrypted data on the cloud

Do you encrypt your data before uploading to the cloud?
If so, could you share what you use to encrypt please?

  • +3

    Not a deal:
    Regular pricing
Not unlimited storage. 1TB. Extra if you're lucky.

  • +10

This will be deprecated come June 2023 for grandfathered accounts as well. Check the fine print. I would not trust dumping my content onto there for that price per month to have to move it again.

I recently had a suspension for having 47TB storage on there for a paid account with encrypted file storage. They check the chunks and file uploads and use heuristics to 'approximate' what you are storing. They will not lift my suspension because it is on me to prove that I own the content. Such is Google..

If it is simply a backup, maybe look at Backblaze. If it is not, I would not be that trusting. But I am biased.

this comment deserves more attention. Google storage isn't set and forget, they're a pedantic and intrusive landlord

      • +1

Even as the op I agree this comment deserves attention. I will continue to use but will continue to reconsider my options based on others experiences. What I have stored on cloud, is also stored locally as well on my unraid server. My use for rclone and gdrive falls under my hobby of messing around with my server.

    • Is this a content issue or an issue of quantity?

      • My personal belief is that are clamping down on DCMA requests. They can approximate that I have quite a few ISO on there from the chunking of uploaded data.

It is encrypted client side with rclone before being moved up so it is not a content issue per-se from first appearance.

I know others with well above 200TB so not a quantity issue. It is also not a shared drive.

    • It won't be deprecated, they're simply removing the "unlimited storage" perk from their Workspaces Business plan. It'll still exist on the more expensive Enterprise plan ($28 a month). Worst case you'll go from paying $16 a month to $28, but it's still worthwhile considering it's proper unlimited storage.

I've had 60+ TB of backups stored there for over 3 years and never had any issues. Upload/download using rclone and everything is encrypted via rclone.

Maybe the only reason you got a suspension was because you didn't encrypt, or you were sharing your content? That rings alarm bells for them. As long as you keep things personal they don't seem to care.

The unlimited will only be available on a request basis and that request has to be made with your sales rep. That is what I have been told anyway.

Encryption makes no difference, other than taking up more space globally when everyone has the same iso files any way, it prevents deduplication. Sharing is considered giving permission to view your files publicly and very very likely to get your account terminated.

If you can buy from a reseller you might be able to lock in 12 months grandfathered but after that you will be subject to the new workspace rules. What they actually are and mean nobody knows yet, the wording is very bare. If you can live with it being taken away in a few months there is no reason not to use it for now.

        • The unlimited will only be available on a request basis and that request has to be made with your sales rep.

Have you got a source for this?

          • @vicerum: Not that I can share and can be verified. Nothing in writing yet.

            • @BaryGusey: @BaryGusey
Workspaces Enterprise shows up with "unlimited storage" in the description and upgrading is a few clicks and done. Nothing here about having to contact anybody manually to request it.

  • I will stop using google services for personal private use like email. Their track record of killing their own products are too unsuitable for my use cases. It’s like their products are in perpetual beta cycle and can be canned at anytime.

    • I try to use DuckDuckGo as much as possible, it’s actually quite good.

  • Anyone know if a VPN can get you a discount on this?

    • Global pricing I believe. There is may be 10% discount offers for x months available.

    • Turkey google pricing is good

Wouldn’t trust Google. Google photo has been advertised as free and unlimited, after attracted enough users after years, now they put a limit , pay or have the contents deleted.

    • +1

Google photo has been advertised as free and unlimited, after attracted enough users after years, now they put a limit , pay or have the contents deleted.

That is incorrect. Your photos will not be deleted.

Any photos uploaded till the middle of the year will remain free. Any photos uploaded after that will be counted against your storage quota.

Might as well try your luck on here for cheap google storage https://www.reddit.com/r/Newredditbay/

    • The difference would be that you don't purchase somebody's stolen account with the OP's method…

  • I'd be surprised if this continues to work once the transition to Google Workspace is complete.
Unlimited storage will only be available on the enterprise plan and the plan here will move to the Business Standard plan with 2TB

    • Enterprise plan is still only $28 a month, which depending on how many TB you need to store, is still by far the cheapest cloud backup service.

You might argue that Backblaze is only about $10 a month, but consider that Backblaze requires you to use their proprietary client, limits you to uploading from 1 computer only, and doesn't offer automatic customer-side encryption of the content. Those are big negatives IMO.

      • CrashPlan also $10USD. Has some of the limitations of Backblaze, but does have client side encryption from memory. The clients much better too, but you do still need to use a client.

Depending on how much storage you want, something like Wasabi is also worth a look. At about 4TB it’ll be more expensive however than an unlimited service.

  • After you press signup it takes you to google workspace, but URL says gsuits.

edit-1 - After signup I received email saying "welcome to google workspace."

edit-2 - subscription says "Google Workspace Business Standard"

    • G Suite has been renamed Workspaces last year.

      • I know that, but this post title says Gsuite.
I am just pointing that it is not possible to get old Gsuite anymore and this is not a deal.

        • Yep correct. He's using a URL that is for the old GSuite, but the end result of the signup process is still Google Workspaces. They just havent taken down or rebranded the old signup page yet.

  • This deal appears to be unobtainable to new subscribers as the subscription ends up being for "Google Workspace Business Standard". It will be moved to forums to preserve discussion.
