    Thump warmer?
Also double up as ire starter?

    • took one out of the TV the other day, it was so bloody hot.

  • I spent the extra and went with the Samsung Fit Plus instead. Doesn't seem to get anywhere near as hot as the Sandisk. Not quite as small as the Sandisk admittedly but small enough.

  • Many amazon reviews suggest pretty ordinary read/write speeds.

    Can anyone confirm?

Yes, I have posted previously about these and can confirm that they are slow and overheat when copying large files to them (but they are cheap). A much better choice is the Samsung FIT Plus USB 3.1 Flash Drive. A vastly superior product with much faster write speeds and a hell of a lot cooler to run. I bought several of the 128GB ones when Amazon Australia had them for $33 (they are about $45 at the moment).

  • Would it be any good as an extremely portable backup drive? Been looking at SSD's but I don't even have 50gb of stuff to back up

    • +2

Cloud backup is a better solution for ~50GB. Why would you want to store your backup on such a small device that can easily get lost?

      • because it is quicker to back up and also restore 50gb from a local device than from cloud based storage over the internet, backup important things to cloud incase local backups are lost.

yes , very small and easy to loose , idea being attach a lanyard. i use these small ones for the mp3 player in my car. and have one plugged into the side of my laptop for doc and powerpoint backups , being small they don’t need to be unplugged when moving laptop, and i can plug into my desktop ready to go rather than email or one drive if i have lots of docs to move as email has attachment size limits.

  • Overheat And fall apart

    • they get hot when writing, not reading …..heat is generated when a cell of the flash changes state e.g write, not when read. one of mine is in the car for mp3, so it’s more read intensive, out in the sun all year round, no issues, write 50 go of data in one go and it will get hot initially, all flash does it’s just bigger physical flash drives have plastic to grip so you don’t notice unless you touch the metal usb connector.

  • Very plasticky, i miss the old Fit when it's metal.
