Just cashed out my $200 from the previous deal. Rates were cheaper for me too. Win Win

I just keep churning between them and AGL with the occasional Red Energy thrown in. Takes forever for meter reads though so it limits how often you can do it.

      • Switched to EA last year when they offered 2x $75 credit + $200 cashback. Elec has gone through but gas meter still hasn't been read :/

        • Last switch after EA was to simply energy.
This deal is a good one (just make sure the rates make sense for you in combination with the promo.)
If you want to switch in between promos or to a different provider, you can look for "ClickEnergy" in cashrewards. They offer cashbacks for different providers by comparing on their site (that's how I switched to SimplyEnergy).

I would switch back - but Gas meter hasn't been read yet after my last switch (it was read for switching, so maybe I can give it a go; I just didn't receive my first gas bill yet and it might void their discount on first bill).

      • How long do you need to wait before your considered a "new customer" after switching? I moved to simply energy about 4 months ago for the cashrewards deal

        • A quick search says it might need 12months: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/539719.
Maybe try opening under partner's name, as some posts below suggest.

          • @johnmelb: I would just look and read fine prints of Cashrewards T&C and make sure you meet all requirements. Nothing more, nothing less.
You don't need to assume. The rule is described in T&C.

When it comes to claim your cash rewards, you kindly challenge and ask for assistance with their support showing the T&C copy which you need to retain the T&C copy and show them and tell them that you met all requirements they imposed.

They are normally good, reasonable and supportive as long as you follow their T&C.

I was with EA last year but will sign up to take this offer.

      • I was with agl it was a nightmare every time got a bill, switched to amaysim fantastic not a problem cheap rates too, they took over amaysim and first bill problems and high rates. In the process of swapping to Energy Australia. Missed out on the bonus bugger.

      • The trick is to change billing cycle to 1 month instead of quarterly billed. Then the meter read will be done before the beginning of next cycle

Here you again these guys :P

  • Can I just switch between those energy suppliers to get cashback on cashrewards ? Anybody with experience doing so ?

  • +5

They've been fine so far, I was surprised to learn they're a Chinese owned business. I'll swap to an Australian owned provider when I find a better rate.

  • Hi friends,
Does anyone know if I am already with EA and get a new account on my wife's name with the same residential address(cancel my existing account), will I still be eligible for cashback ?
    Thanks.

    • +1

Sounds ok to me. No different from a stranger opening a new account after they've moved in to the property

      • Thanks, I've just applied for a new account. Let's see how I go.

  • Ugh, I literally just applied a few days ago and got the $112 cash back. Account isn't even active yet, can I do something to take advantage of this new promo?

  • Damn it! Just changed energy providers last month.

  • Gas takes forver to read the meter. Usually once every 3 months.

    • One day we may have smart gas meters, but I won't hold my breath.

  • Hypothetical question: Can you sign up multiple properties (under different family member's household account) against your CR account?

  • +1

Boohoo for the no Solar plans ;-(
Just had solar installed and any tips from the Ozbargain community on best Solar plans, rates and sign up bonuses would be appreciated.

    • +1

Check on the Energy Made Easy website. You'll need to compare the rate and the Solar Feed in rates. As usually with the higher feed-in rates, your grid rates are higher.

Unfortunately it's not always easy to compare the rates as it highly depends on your meter/area, energy distributor and the way your household consumes energy.

      • +2

Check on the Energy Made Easy website

For VIC residents, you should be using the Victorian Energy Compare website.

        • +1

Thanks! My bad I forgot to add that, but OP and member I was replying to show up as being in Sydney.

  • +2

If you are in Victoria you can use the independent energy price comparison tool to ensure that you are getting the best deal. For me the prices even with the cash back weren’t low enough to warrant a switch. https://compare.energy.vic.gov.au/

  • what is their solar feed in tariff?

  • -1

Tried signing up and when I answer yes to 'Do the property have solar power' it shows can't proceed and to contact their team. Does this mean home with solar panels are not eligible for this offer?

    • +2

I even bolded it in the post :P

      • Yikes, how did I miss that! No beuno for me then.

        • You can look for "ClickEnergy" in cashrewards.
They offer cashbacks for different providers by comparing on their site (that's how I switched to SimplyEnergy).
It was showing results after selecting that I had solar panels (which I don't, I just tried to see if there would be results). Didn't go through with signing up though.
Let us know if you try and it works.

          • @johnmelb:

            Thank you!!!

I didn't even know about https://energy-compare.cashrewards.com.au/ until I read your post.

I signed up to Click Energy gas last month using the Click Circle referral program - $50 bonus credit for referrer and referee each.
Can this be stacked with Cashrewards? Damn!

Although I do notice that Click Energy no longer shows up when I run a search on the CR energy providers comparison site. This is probably because they have increased their prices as of February 2021.

            • @DoctorCalculon: if click is still doing that overy complicated pay on time discount I'd avoid them, had no end of dramas with both click and alinta, alinta only got sorted once I threatened to email their CEO & quoted their customer service his actual email address

              • @Irishness:

once I threatened to email their CEO & quoted their customer service his actual email address

Wouldn't have been simpler to just take them to the relevant energy ombudsman within your state?

if click is still doing that overy complicated pay on time discount

No discount. I find them to be complete BS as I pay on time via direct debit.
It was the cheapest plan in VIC back in January (using the Victorian Energy Compare website).

                • @DoctorCalculon: once I threatened to email their CEO & quoted their customer service his actual email address

Wouldn't have been simpler to just take them to the relevant energy ombudsman within your state?

that would have been the next step but I'm sure have taken longer, I have insight into how clueless their accounts department actually are

      • nah, doesn't make any sense. If that is the case, why there's solar feed-in tariff?

  • When does this expire? Moving house in 5 weeks.

    • +2

you could sign up now and specify the move in date?

      • Good idea, thanks. Not sure of the specific date but I'm sure they'd be flexible if I guessed a future date and then amended it?

        • +1

Same boat. That's what I am planning. Hopefully they're flexible

  • This or OVO energy?

    • Seems very few people use ovo if my post 2-3 days ago is anything to go by. Only reply I got was someone posting a referral which got removed. Seems they have non existant support and their bill smoothing may not work for everyone. You may save in long run but they will gold onto more than they need.

      • Tango is now cheaper than OVO now (at least on the United Energy grid).

        • Only reason I looked at ovo was shopback had a $80 sign up reward. Not sure the caveat warrant the effort though.

          • +1

@hazzad: Haha! I looked at the ShopBack deal yesterday as well, and was briefly considering about switching to OVO Energy.
Yeah Nah! ShopBack has a reputation for screwing you for any cashback over $10 (judging by the number of posts I have read here).

  • +1

They increased my prices so much this year that it was very easy to find better rates elsewhere. Can't recommend them long term … but take the bonus and then swap away again. (But some lazy ones will stay …)

  • It's a $50 electricity sign up bonus in Queensland, well that's what I got notified of

  • +1

is there contract length for Energy Australia ?

    • no lockin, prices set for 12 months

  • When does this deal end? Bit busy for next few days….hopefully it lasts for long.

  • thinking of switching from AGL to EA in VIC. Anyone know if there's any exit fees or fees associated with the switch?

    • Exit fees were abolished a long time ago as well as prices being fixed.

      • Having said that, could someone explain to me why do we still need to have 2-week cooling off periods???
        Completely pointless!

  • +1

    Energy Australia site says;

    Get a great energy deal.
    Join us on Total Plan and get a total electricity and gas bill discount plus a;
$50 for Electricity sign-up credit AND
    $50 for Gas sign-up credit

So total $100 if you sign up both accounts (not $50 total). Even better.

    • What state are you in?

      Not showing for me

      • Shows same for me in VIC

      • NSW

    • I also got the $50 for each fuel bonus in Vic.

  • Just opened a chat.

There are no bonuses for SA residents.

  • +1

Just signed up. Also got the 2 x $50 promo for each fuel plus the cashback. $300 if it al goes through. And rates are better than what had with Simply Energy. Thanks OP.

  • I've signed up all 4 of my properties via this deal. If I don't get $800 cashback, i will be devastated.

    • Are you certain multiple properties can be tracked into a single CR account?
I have sent them an email, and yet to hear back on the answer to this question.

If the switch doesn't track, I can can cancel under the two weeks cooling off period. However, I am concerned whether cashback would eventually be rejected based on this technicality.

      • Are you not happy with $50 (electricity) + $50(gas) regardless of cashback?

        • Nope, it would not be worthwhile switching to this mob based on their highly inflated rates.

          • @DoctorCalculon: well that's true if your current one is better than Energy Australia. at the end of the day, it comes down to usage rate + supply rate - discount - tarif feed in (buy back). If overall, current total payable is less than Energy Australia, then no point of switching.

  • Good deal… Thanks op
    https://powersavingbonus2.energy.vic.gov.au/
    $250.00 for eligible Victorian people

  • Anyone received their tracking from Cashrewards ? My order from 19/02/2021 still nothing …

    • Your 2-week cooling off period hasn't finished yet.

    • Mine was tracked on the 19/2 on my cashrewards portal.

    • placed order on the 18/2, hasn't tracked. i've lodged a query with cashrewards and they're looking into it.

  • Anyone been pestered by their existing energy company after switching?

Red have called me an offered some pretty good deals but I don't think they beat the 200 cashback +50+50 cashback from energy australia.

They offered to lower my electricity rates to 21c/kwh

    • They offered to lower my electricity rates to 21c/kwh

They can renege on this any time whenever the supplier bumps up the prices.
