Toilet Seat Keeps Slipping - What Am I Doing Wrong?

First world problem here. After several weeks of try and error my toilet seat just keeps slipping.

I tried top and bottom fixing and even put little bit of silicone under both spigots to stop it from sliding, but no mater how much I tighten everything after couple of days it starts slipping again.

What Am I doing wrong?

  • Is it the original seat that came with the toilet, or a replacement?

    • replacement

    • it's brand new seat

Clearly not installed properly. Did you also replace the insert where the screw goes into? I just moved into a new place and had to replace the toilet seat too. It wasn’t until I decided to replace the insert that the slipping stops.

        • yes all bits are new, they came with new toilet seat

Not sure if all replacement seats come with plastic nuts & bolts, but some are almost useless as you cannot tighten them enough.
You might need to cut a rubber gasket of the same rectangular shape as the silicone/plastic one you get with it to create enough friction so it doesn't slide.

Or stop collapsing on the dunny like an Aussie male and just sit your ass down daintilly :)

This! and remember Newton's second law F = ma

agree 100% … just bout to head to bunnings for second time today.. i didnt know there were so many different size seats….

  • have you tried searching on YouTube? for sure that will help

  • Is your bum too big?

  • You are supposed to sit on it, not stand on it.

  • lose weight?

  • Tell us the users' weights?

  • Don't buy the generic Bunnings one. They are not guaranteed to fit as you have found out (not returnable either).

  • I threw away the plastic wing-nuts & got 10mm metal nuts & that got my dunny tightened down, so it wouldn't slip

    • Just watch out for rusting…

      • blood oath, you don't want your nuts rusting :p

  • You have the incorrect bolt thru the pan kit. Two sizes, and the small size will slip and move around inside the larger holes.

Bite the bullet and buy the correct lid set, or find a handy person to make a tube style bush to eliminate the excess space and hold the bolt in situ.

    Been there, done that.
