  • Link doesn't work for me.

Just go to the iDrive site, this price is always available for new signups.

Ive been using this for about 3 months and got the same deal.
On Windows, the client is very good, you can schedule backups to start and stop by a certain time and only email on errors.

I backup overnight and it maxes out my nbn upload speed (30mbps approx)

Ive got 7 different pcs backing up at different locations under the one account.

The android app can auto backup photos but i found it really slow compared to the desktop. it might be ok once it gets a full backup done and only needs incremental backups

I have just received the renewal invoice. So I have been using it for more than a year.
3.5 of 5 TB in use, continuous backup of a data repository that changes anything from 0 to 10 GB on a daily base.
Note that this is secondary backup, primary is nightly into rotated USB external drives using robocopy /mirror

    • That's a fair chunk of data. What are you backing up if you don't mind me asking?

      • 1s and 0s ;)

      • An archive of various files that keeps growing from a client company. Spans 10+ years and is referred to quite often.

    • Agree, it’s a great service.
I backup my NAS as well as all our one drive and google drive accounts.

    • Wow… Robocopying /mirror… What happens if the client is attacked by a ransomware? Not the best solution ey.

      • rotating USB drives?

        • Not good enough for critical services that needs recent data not prev day.. lots of better solutions. This is outdated unreliable.

          • @id: @id, can you suggest/link to info on what you think is a good backup solution? I'm currently using Aomei Backupper on an external drive, and in addition Tresorit for just the documents folder. But that leaves photos, music etc quite vulnerable

  • tried and gave up, too slow, it could take decades to fill up 5T…

    • I have made same experience. One drive just as slow

Hmmm… why don't people just use friends/family as backup cloud services? I just hang a drive off my router, configure it as an FTP server and it works great as a backup/cloud service for my family interstate. They do the same for me. No cost, full trust.

This is similar to "Why don't people just use Linux instead ofWindows? It's free, easy to setup and use!"

Please tell me that FTP is behind a VPN or you at least have fail2ban?

    • +1

      FTP but.

    • +2

So basically your data are not encrypted, not firewalled and available via FTP? And I hope that your friends don't have kids :-)
I use friend's houses for offline backup on bitlocked drive locked in a shockproof box, but I am bit paranoid re anything online.
Also, working in IT security, I am bit alergic to words "full trust", especially in the same sentence as "no cost" :-D

    • Assume you mean sftp and not ftp and your backup client encrypts you’re data with your own private key before transmission.

Zero Trust is what your looking for not full trust.

Idrive sucks. Poor performance. Poor support. Going to leave as soon as my year is up

    • Lol.. your kidding right I moved to idrive 8 months ago to reduce my glacier bill and never looked back.

I find it very fast, they even have clients for my very dated netgear readynas104.

Windows backup client is great!!, only downside is no client side de-dupe.

Do you work for the C.I.A.? Asking for a friend…

    • lol no.
remember you can set your own encryption key on the client if you are worried about data spying.
