Bose NCH-700 Noise Cancelling Headphones, Black $399 Shipped @ Myer

740

I’ve been looking for a wireless headphone. I considered QC35ii for too long, it’s now obsolete. I’m upgrading to considering the new model. Not the cheapest, but I think $399 is a good deal

QC35II is far from being obsolete.

    • +9

Honestly, they're still my favourite noise cancelling headphones

Only problem for me is the build quality. Feels cheap and a bit flimsy especially around the headband

        • +1

Out of curiousity, which headphones do you find have a better build quality around the qc35ii price point? I'm in need of a new pair

          • +5

            @tommynolips: Sony XM-4's

            • +1

              @techie8055: thanks

            • +6

@techie8055: I have no idea why people blindly believe that XM4s are a very good choice when it comes to build quality. I had both, QC35II and then XM4. From my experience XM4 feels like a plastic toy for kids. They are made of a good quality plastic but they feel cheap when you hold them in your hands and especially when you put them on. With almost every move of you head or neck you hear the sound of that squeaky plastic that gets into your music. Is that how it is supposed to happen with noise-cancelling headphones? My QC35IIs were much better in terms of build quality and everything else except for sound quality and may be noise cancellation. This is where Sony is better. By 'everything else' I mean Bluetooth connection, microphone quality when making phone calls, better controls, mobile app.

Anyway I got rid of them and now looking for something alike QC35II but with better sound quality.

I've had mine (Original QC's) for over 6 years and use them almost daily. Never had issues with the headband although the earpads have been replaced twice due to wear and tear

          • @chamzoo: That's normal wear and tear though. Ear pads, and head band if applicable, do get replaced 'regularly'. Good use!

    • +1

Replaced my QC35s with these NCH-700 and regret it. Not as comfortable, no music share, and the touchpad doesn't really add anything honestly. Maybe the call quality is better but I can't tell and I doubt anyone else can.

    • A lot closer than you think

  • Same price at Amazon

Buy QC35ii, 700s are garbage. I had 35s for 6 years they died I bought 700s and they are junk, always dropping the Bluetooth during important business calls, I put them in the cupboard and bought 35iis, and I couldn't be happier . Don't buy 700s they have halved in price for a reason.

Sounds like you have a defective pair. I use mine for calls frequently and never had an issue, in fact they're excellent with great microphone quality!

      • +6

Thousands of 700 owners have the same problems and Bose, who is my fav brand I have the sports buds as well, ignore it. Its a software issue when two devices are connected
I've kept them as I think they will eventually fix it

        • I also have same issue when phone and computer are connected. It's a poopoo! How do I even check for a software update?

          • @FoxJump:

How do I even check for a software update?

If you have the Bose music app installed, it's automatic.

      • Sounds like you have a defective pair. I use mine for calls frequently and never had an issue

Do you have it paired with two devices? This is a common problem with multi pairing.

    • I've had a listen to a friend's 700s, and they sound TERRIBLE :)

    • I have the bose 700s and my wife has the qc35. The bose 700 I find superior in every way. Especially the look and build quality. The only issue I had with mine is they appeared to brick once, wouldn't turn on or anything. To fix it, I just had to download the latest software through my computer and connect them via cable to update etc. Then they went back to normal with no problems.

    • Have you used the QC3? I've got a pair from 12+ years ago and they are great, the only thing is thing they are wired which is a minor inconvenience. I'd like a BT version of them, but it seem all the newer models aren't as good.

Hoping these price drops mean theres a refresh coming out soon, so many issues to fix

Hey op, you may want to use SB to get an extra 4% cash back https://www.shopback.com.au/myer. Bose falls under Entertainment which is on the cash back rates table.

xm3 and xm4 are both very good and they trade punches (codecs availability, mic quality etc)

however I opted for sony xb900n instead and they are a solid alternative. bass can be turned down if needed. xm3/xm4 are too forward with their mids to my liking anyway. and xb900n have aptx, aptx HD, ldac

costs 239 at Myer last time I checked

ANC leaves a bit of stray noises intact, but I prefer that on my commute. spacing out completely can be dangerous if you're out and about. also switching to transparent mode just by covering right earphone is an amazing feature if I need to hear current announcement. much quicker than fumbling with some switch like airpods pro or Plantronics bbp2

    • sony xb900n instead and they are a solid alternative. bass can be turned down if needed

The bass on the XM3/XM4 can be turned down as well. Just use the Equalizer in the app.

  • I've been looking at buying a pair of ANC headphones. ANC Going to be used mostly on public transport. General use on PC and Android at home. Which ones are better overall?

    XM4s, QC35ii or NC700s?

    • I got some some XM4s for use on a noisy plane. They worked very well, and when a lot of other people pulled out the same model, I guess others agree. I am not an audio addict so my decision was based on ANC.

      • Cheers, I've seen praise for all the models listed above so just wanted to check, XM4s look like they are going for the best price so might go for that

    • +1

I think comfort is more important, so try all of them on your head before you purchase.
My work colleague swears by the comfort of the QC35 but to me the Sony just feels better than his QC35 on my head.

      • I've tested out the XM4s and they feel like my current ones apart from the ANC. I'll test out the other 2 later in the week and see.

I had both pairs of Bose and beats studio wireless, sold the lot and got the AirPods max, better than all of them.

    • +4

How is AirPods max better than all of them? Not to mention it costs more than twice of the Bose 700's.

    • +2

Beats are meh, over priced for what you get. Air pods max… Show me under $400. Even then from experience are only decent at best.

Xm4s Under $400 are the go imo. Beat the pods at double the price, and have a, personally preferable, sound over the bose qc2, the 700s still have issues a few years on (various firmware updates each have their issues, sigh) and the beats, yeah no thanks. Ok but too bass heavy equaliser preset.

      • I paid $240 for the beats and my daughter now has them, they work better with apple gear than bose that's for sure. You get what you pay for with the AirPods max.

        • +2

And then you pay an extra $500 on top of that

    • +1

For over $850 you'd expect them to beat out ones at the $200-$400 range. How is that a fair or helpful comparison at all?

  • Looks like they have the other colours for the same price if you don't want black. Surely have some style and get the Soapstone. I find the QC35 a bit ugly by modern standards, but the Sony XM4 look pretty slick. That's all that matters with headphones right?

XM4 in silver are $399 in that sale also.

    • +2

Still cheaper here for XM4 which includes silver https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/608703

      • I totally agree

but I guess this might be a better deal for peeps with access to discounted gift cards. e.g. one can convert quantas points to myer gift cards

  • Amazing deal, thanks. Have been eyeing these off for a while, will come in handy when back in the office and having more conference calls than pre COVID

  • Good deal considering those that have stocked up on 10% off Coles Myer GC's!
