Android TVs That Don't Randomly Take Ages to Start up

I bought a Sony Android TV about 2 years ago and it's pretty good.

However, about every third time I turn the thing on it takes 5-6 times to actually turn on (the power button comes on immediately but the TV doesn't turn on). You can tell it is booting up because you get the 'android' logo. I have turned off any setting that causes the TV to shut down after a certain period.

In some rare cases, I can only get the TV to start by pulling the power…

My question is, are lot's of Android TVs like this? My parents want an Android TV now so they can have all the apps (they previously have a Panasonic and the App market is very limited). I can deal with the Android TV glitches explained above but I don't think my parents will… Is there a less glitchy Android TV any of you would recommend?

Thanks!

  • I got mine 1-2 years ago, and I’d highly recommend as it boots up fast all the time and I’ve never had any problems with it. Maybe yours is just faulty?

  • My Sony X8000 boots up in less than 2 seconds. Might be a faulty issue with yours or underpowered processor.

Guessing you've enabled fast boot in the Android TV menu?

Otherwise i had an Android TCL that took 30-40 seconds to boot every time unfortunately (fortunately) the motherboard failed and they replaced it under warranty. The new one immediately starts up everytime now.

    • This was the answer for me. Why fast boot isn't switched on by default and was buried in some obscure menu I'll never know.

      • I've just had a look and can't find the option… Any tips on how to find it? Thanks!

        • It's probably different on each TV but for ours:

          • TV Settings
          • More settings
          • Device preferences
          • Quick start

From here you can turn the option on or off.

          Hope that helps.

@Kendrite13: Thanks for taking the time to provide those steps but unfortunately I don't have a "more settings" options.

    • Could also be a slowly failing power supply/capacitor from the look of it.

      Might be a warranty jobby

    • I have had a TCL Android tv for 3 years and takes about a minute to turn on even with fast mode enabled.

  • My Sony one boots up in a few seconds unless the power got cut and then it goes through the whole 2 minute start up process. I noticed that when I had a USB left plugged in, it caused my TV to not be able to turn on and I had to pull the power plug and replug. Nevertheless, I find the lag to be more annoying.

  • Have hisense it has fast boot option but I use regular boot as it’s less than 5 seconds.

  • Check what hdmi devices you have plugged in.

I have a hdmi splitter that causes the tv to crash and the Sony in my classroom was doing the same thing with a USB c - HDMI cable

  • I had a similar issue with mine as well. The cheaper models of Sony TV are not that great in my opinion. I wish at least one TV manufacturer makes a TV with a good premium panel and cut costs by not including a TV OS. I would rather just have a Android TV box like the nvidia shield plugged in.
