Eight travelers. Eight adventures. Eight roles to play. Embark on an epic journey across the vast and wondrous world of Orsterra and discover the captivating stories of each of the eight travelers. Use each character’s distinctive abilities in and out of battle and make decisions to shape your path.

(I’m more excited about Yakuza 6 though)

Octopath is more than amazing, such an epic game.

Very good game from the bravely devs, though a bit too long for my liking.

Battles and music are great, but the 8 different stories not intertwining at all (though I hear it does incredibly briefly at the end) made it a bit of a drag to get through.

Definitely worth checking out, great old school JRPG.

    • +6

Yup, the lack of any sort of interaction between the characters in cutscenes (unless you specifically press a button afterwards that brings up a blank screen with a few lines of dialogue) was the most glaring and odd design choice that really broke immersion for me.

Definitely worth the heads up and warning for new players.
Almost a perfect game otherwise. Loved the music and classic job systems etc.

      • Reminds me of the old PSX/PS2 saga games.

But they would still have cross over with a few characters early on.

It's so weird to have multiple stories in the same world with little to no crossover.

      • +1

The problem is that the story and characters interactions are the most important thing in jrpgs. So it turns a great game to an ok game.

        • +2

Indeed. I did find the individual Vignettes and stories interesting enough though, that and the combat was enough to keep me going.
Think Primrose was my favourite, though it's been a while, might be time for a replay.. :D

    • Yeah the stories all come together if you get to the true final boss, but it's a long way to get there and more dialogue between the characters would have been nice.

Wow MS is going all out with gamepass lately. 20 Bethesda games, undertake, outriders day 1 and now octopath which I thought was a switch exclusive but guess not.

    • Not anymore, PC and now xbx

    • +4

Lucky we all got 3 years of ultimate for $100. :D

      • how?

  • +1

Amazing throwback to SNES era JRPGs with an awesome battle system and challenging boss battles. Well worth playing.

  • +1

Star Wars Squadrons too, can't wait!

  • I thought Octopath was switch exclusive.

Amazing game, really cool old school RPG with some fun mechanics.

  • +3

    Nier: Automata is there too!

    • It's always been there, but now also available in pc.

      Nonetheless, my favourite game ever.

      • yeah I don't have an Xbox

      • Nier has been on PC for years though?

Or is this specific to Microsoft store?

        • Game pass specifically.

  • +1

Xbox Game Pass has been so worth it. I have all the FF's installed and just playing random games. Worth the $31 (Xbox Live Gold + $1 Ultimate game pass) but xan you still add a year by buying the Xbox Live Gold using a VPN and then redeeming it?

    • -1

I believe so - I've been waiting for my current subscription to run out before attempting another Gold to Game Pass Ultimate conversion.

      • +1

Heads up the Brazil gold conversion to ultimate doesn't work anymore. You'll get hit with an incompatible region error code.

  • Looking forward to Narita Boy. 80s inspired metroidvania.

  • +1

Tried the demo a while back but wasn't all that engrossed. Is it worth giving the full game a shot?

  • Playstation. Take note. When Squarenix starts sleeping with Microsoft, you better get your game right.

    • +1

They have two exclusives with Sony in development for PS5 as well as ff7 remake and ff16.

Square further has made 3 exclusives soon for switch.

I would say Microsoft is still very far from being cosy with square.

I say that as a huge Xbox fan

      • I am also a huge PS fan.

Even I have to concede the Xbox offering at present is superior.

I wrote in a forum the other day that for media entertainment, Xbox is far superior (in short, PS5 doesn't transcode DTS = loss 5.1) in media entertainment and for the first time I think, I have to praise Microsoft's effort in trying to make console gaming competitive (trust me, I despise Microsoft). I got Streets of Rage 4 from Xbox.

This could be a beginning. That's the point I make.

Of course if PS has FF8 Remake, I can be bought :-P

It may have a better offering but unless sony (profanity) up on the level of xbox one presentation/ps3 presentation there is no way microsoft can catch them even with a price cut.

Zune was a better system then Ipod. Even the packages were leagues ahead of anything today. The market just didnt want it as much as Ipod. Same for Xbox. People (even myself) are overhyping game pass but its no way goiing to make platform sales that ps will. PS5 is over 6 million in sales and still severly uunder supplied. You can take our market for example or even this site…look at the amount of clicks PS5 gets vs Xbox Series X.

          https://gamingintel.com/ps5-vs-xbox-series-stock-how-many-ne…

It took sony releasing an exlusive every month during ps3 days to catch up in that generation. Before even a new exlusive comes out for XSX sony will have so many heavy hitters..GoW, Horizon, FF16 (even if timed, FF7R sold 6 million copies) and thats before PSVR2, untitled sequels, new exlusives etc.

Im a huge xbox fan (check my history) and have both consoles. We haven't even talked about sonys apparent game pass competitor

My brother has been trying to get me to buy Otopath Traveler on the Switch since its release.
So let's see what all the fuss is about on Xbox Gamepass. I did look pretty cool!
I just had so much to play and still do

  • Since when is Octopathbon XBOX? I thought it was just PC and Switch

    • Since next week - it's on Xbox Game pass from its first day for the console, basically.

  • If you have gamepass and a copy on Switch, which would be the better version to play?

    • I find I drop RPGs if I play them on console. But I finish them on Switch. I guess choose the one you'll actually play.

    • Switch should be the default platform for anything that doesn't need 60fps or a better dpad. That's why Nintendo can get away with the switch tax.

  • +1

With all this Square Enix support, my bet now is FF VII Remake will release on Game Pass when it launches on Xbox. The 1 year timed exclusively should be coming to an end soon.

    • That would be pant creaming worthy

    • It better. Sony just gave away ff7R for free this month with speculation the one year exlusivity is ending in April. Sony plays dirty but they are hurting if it's day 1 game pass it'll be a huge Fu to sony

      • +1

        How is Sony playing dirty??

  • +1

PC (Windows 10) as well, hopefully PlayAnywhere.

Whenever I read "Octopath Traveller" I always think of Octodad.

  • Yakuza 6

  • Hahaha

  • -3

Octopath is an absolutely awful game and is not worth the time it takes to download it.
Gamepass is a good deal, but not for this game lol

    • Octopath is in the style of old SNES/DS rpg you should keep in mind. If you’d never play old games like that you might not like Octopath.

      • It's not the style, it's that the gameplay is bland and repetitive and the story is poorly constructed, poorly written and poorly voice-acted.

        • +1

I’ve only played the first level so far and it’s not as good as, say, Chrono Trigger.

          • +1

@AustriaBargain: Hard for something to be as good as Chrono trigger though. That was a great game, definitely should be on square's list to remake one day

  • +2

Great music, very innovative and interesting battle system, great item/skill system but extremely repetitive down to its very core (maps, characters, overall gameplay). Dialogue sounds like it came from google translate.
